I found it best to just use a touch of the boost and leave it. I also put a blend dial in instead of separate volumes controls. It's a great bass but the bridge pup is weak so I replaced that as well. Now it kills.

Can you do another tutorial on Hartke HD50 amp? I bought it recently but couldn't get the perfect sound as this. I know it's not that hard setting three knobs, but I got shows to perform soon. Need to get perfect sound on stage for feeling. I like more p-bass with j-bass blended! Guitar knobs is on my fingertips but the amp knobs won't be! Help if anyone has good tips.

I have the same bass in the sunburst color. I love this bass because of the wide range of tone options. I tend to keep my neck pickup at 100%, my bridge pickup at 25%, and my active control rolls between 0 & 25% depending on the venue. I play with flatwounds on an Ampeg BA-115.

  • @OlettaLiano

I don't use the active EQ on my ESP D-6 at all. I leave the knobs centered and get the tone I want with my hands or a pick.

I like active basses because of EQ. I use blend knob to get 40/60 in favour of bridge pickup, boost a bit of bass and mids and cut some treble. That is my sound.

Another decent "entry" bass is the Ibanez Talman bass. I have the 4 string (ivory and nicknamed "butter spoon") and and 5 string (black and nicknamed "tar baby" 'cause you can't put it down!) models. Their quality seems to far exceed their cost.

What most people don´t know is that the precision pickup is actually a humbucker. the combination of the 2 coils produce that effect..and the awsome sound of the P.

    • @mezatron

Interesting. If the P is a humbucker, then does the single coil jazz pup introduce hum?

Bass pick up knobs control the EQ of the bass. It’s called eq 101. You first control the eq of your bass by adjusting the knobs…… this is for beginners. So in that sense, I apologize. I should have said for beginners only….You have to start somewhere. You must haven’t seen my course where I go in depth on the frequency ranges the the knobs include, which may I add, Is different for each bass and or pick up sets. Thanks for the critique though, I’ll keep it in mind.
