As a software engineer, I haven't had the time to build a web application for my wife's small business outside of my regular job. I finally dug into the Power Platform and your videos have helped me lay the foundation for the app. Your videos also helped my wife understand how to "make" the app her own. This course was very well done. Thank you very much!

Fantastic Lisa - big thank you. My key takeaways are (1) Start with a Solution (2) Business Rules for conditional display (3) Automate for data changes and (4) don't forget to include the app in security permissions.

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the time and effort you put into this video and the rest of your content in general! I’ve been trying to find solutions for my team in a company that doesn’t really dedicate a lot of IT resources for specialty projects like this. Your content has helped me understand a lot of the capabilities and given me hope that I can help identify a solution to make my immediate area function more efficiently and with a lot less headache. Thank you so much for putting content like this out on UA-cam for free so it can be accessible to the Joe Schmos like me! Bless you!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I just love how you smile while teaching. I must say it is evident how much you enjoy this, and how your competence makes it trivial. This is some heavy work made to look simple.
Coming from a Database management / software development background, the Dataverse way of doing this introduced some curve. Having Out Of the Box Experience of ready made columns and Lookups for relationships was what i grappled with at first. After creating some of these fields on my own, I then had duplicate fields doing the same things. So, thanks again to you for making it clearer on how it is beneficial to just put minimal columns up when creating a table, while leveraging the default columns from Dataverse.
    Well done!

    • @LisaCrosbie
      @LisaCrosbie  23 дні тому

thank you so much, I do genuinely enjoy teaching this and appreciate your comments. I've seen a lot of people from traditional database backgrounds have to "unlearn" some things to get into dataverse, well done on working through that, I think unlearning and rethinking is harder than learning from scratch.

Lisa Crosbie has truly outdone herself with this comprehensive PowerApps instruction video! 🌟 It's like attending a full-day training course from the comfort of your own space. What stands out is how Lisa has structured the content into chapters, making it super user-friendly. You can easily jump to specific sections or pick up where you left off, catering to both beginners and those more advanced. The generosity of providing such a rich resource for free just shows Lisa's dedication to spreading knowledge and supporting the PowerApps community. The hands-on demo of the Asset Management App was a highlight for me, brilliantly illustrating the practical application of concepts discussed. I'm hitting the like and share buttons without hesitation and encouraging others to dive into this treasure trove of knowledge. A massive thank you, Lisa, for this empowering tool! 👏📘💼

Probably the best tutorial I've ever seen. My question is, in Asset Management > Tables > Contact | is there a way to import users from an Azure Active Directory security group? I would love for it to auto-populate with employees in this group so when there are new employees or ex-employees, the group assignment will determine if they show up in the asset app?
Edit: turned out to be more trouble than it was worth so I just manually entered in the users and can make it part of the onboarding process.

This is by far and away the best course I have taken online! I have taken many courses including Collab365, Powerapps 911 (Shane Young), Audrie Gordon (Microsoft) , and Laura Rogers (IWMentor).
First and foremost Lisa has a wonderfully fast and consistent pace with a great pedagogical style. It is one long 4 hour vide that allows me to stop, rewind, and build myself. The instructions that Lisa gives are accurate, so I can copy her steps.
Second, unbelievable, this course is free, unlike the other courses I have mentioned above. Also, the other courses have a lot of stale material, that is not the case here.

On your form, you can click on Component in the ribbon at the top, then on the left hand side, under the Input category, you can select the 'Star Rating' control and drag this onto your form. Once you have done that, you can select the Table Column that it will be associated to.

Good Stuff Lisa. Never commented on your stuff before but been watching some of it since becoming an Associate Consultant. Never had any experience using PowerApps before but taking it one day at a time and there's so much to learn not including trying to understand all of the other technical ways things can be achieved depending on a project. For example, we don't really use business rules because someone codes it with Java Script and I am like "Why aren't we just using business rules" lol. For anyone new.... don't get frustrated...it takes time. So many factory goes into how much things will stick....With that said, Lisa has been great in all of her content. Thank you Lisa!

thank you so much, and you're right, there are so many tools to work with and being a consultant in this space is a never-ending learning journey (one of the things I love most about it). I always prefer and recommend to use no-code/low-code out of the box options wherever possible, rather than code first.

Hi Lisa fantastic course - really getting lots out of it. I'm wondering if you could share some of the planning process - how do you start determining which tables, and the relationships? Is it a pen and paper exercise or some other tool. I'd love to build an app for our staff tracking that includes onboarding, tracking professional development, but also creates accessible components such as contact details etc.

Lisa, Thank you very much for making this available. I have shed off from Model driven apps for a long time mainly because my organization did not want to invest in the licensing but also because I was afraid that the amount of customization to the GUI is so limited. And yes that may be true but I now see the advantages especially when building complex solutions. This is a great tutorial and I recommend it to anyone questioning the use of model drive apps.

Thank you so much, I’m so glad that’s helped you change your perception on the value. There’s a lot you can do to fancy up the UI on model driven apps if you want to - embedded canvas apps or custom pages. It’s really not as limited as people think.

Thank you for this amazing course. Such a big help for noobies or pro-coders just trying to get a foothold on low code. So fantastic, in depth, and perfectly paced.
The only thing I would add is a topic (or another vid) on handling Users vs Accounts vs Contacts. Choosing contacts for this demo certainly simplifies the training, and is certainly an option for a design for an internal app. More likely though, the user table will already be populated with Employees, so the table used should be users, right? If the Assets are being assigned to external customer individuals, we would use contact records, linked to a Account org. Clearly its just a tutorial demo, but worth a mention to avoid confusion later, if this is indeed meant to model an internal facing application.

This was really well done with a ton of content. I followed along with you and created the app too. I did get stuck with some permissions issues dealing with Power Automate but I will dig into that a bit. Some of the options, of course, have changed since you created this video but I was able to dig around and find them for the most part. This has demystified several things I had been pondering since taking over a 3rd party app. Thank you, You rock!!

Thank you a lot for these excellent videos. I am from Germany and i think you have the best channel about model driven power apps. The is one thing I do not really understand. Why is there no if-option for dates like „earlier then current date“ or later…. The is only bigger, smaller.
I am working at a real estate / facility management app. The rents increase after one year 2.5%. I do not know how I can see how much he needs to pay after e.g. 6 years. Indeed to see what the tenants need to pay every month…😊
