Lisa - I want to echo all the comments praising you for the detailed courses on model driven apps. Your step-by-step process has made it possible for a novice to grasp the complexities of Power Apps in a way that I’ve not found anywhere else on UA-cam. I have watched this course from start to finish once and listened to it at least two other times. We recently pulled the trigger on having a model driven app created for our business, but I am sad to report that our consultant was not forthcoming in his experience and expertise. After further review and investigation, I believe that he did not take the recommended procedures and steps when creating our app. I was wondering if you would ever be available for a paid question answer session to try to get some clarification on the different things we are being told on what should and should not have been done. Regardless of what your answer is, I look forward to your continued videos and you can count on a cup of coffee from us.😊

    My notes
34:56 - Set up fields for search | Quick Find Active ...
37:50 - Important steps before creating a table (check out the option for 'Creating a new activity')
40:10 - Changing the name of Primary Column of a new table (to preferably make it an autonumber)
49:56 - Creating Relationship between tables
01:20:26 - Enabling Global search bar in the model driven power app, by checking off the option 'Enable offline Classic'
01:24:15 - Setting up timezoe for each user
01:26:02 - HOW THIS APPLICATION IS USED AND WHAT IS TIMELINE
01:29:08 - Import the data from excel
01:33:10 - Log of previous uploads
01:34:10 - Importing a table with relationship to other table
01:39:04 - End user can customize to add or remove fields of their choice in the view
01:41:35 - Quick create form. To quickly add data into a record without actually clicking the record and launching the main form. This should appear side by side of a record just by hovering (check).
01:43:26 - Quick create View. Small window of data to view the records side by side inside a record (read only). Create this on the table inside which records are saved then add it in the other table to show extra RELATED records from another table. e.g. If we want to show candidate's info in the application table, create a quick view form in the candidate table, but show it side by side inside the main form of application table by selecting related items (01:45:58).
01:47:07 - Control what fields of lookup table you want to show in the intellisence drop down (max 3 fields allowed for nice legible view)
01:48:51 - Show sub-grid. i.e. inside a view, show all related records from other table
01:52:19 - PowerApps Grid Control - Beautify with colors
01:54:11 - Aggregation of fields is also allowed. Not covered in this one, try and research more. This can be useful.
01:55:00 - Custom Pages - These are like canvas app design within the Model Driven PowerApps solutions to show as a welcome page or any summary page we want. Basically a functionality to use canvas apps inside model driven solution
02:17:13 - Security Roles and Privileges - Hierarchical organizational level roles and the accesses. Read more about what are they, rather than how are they used. Also find out which environment it should be done at (development or production).
02:19:50 - Share the app with the user. Please not that security role is assigned first before sharing the app. Also find out how can we create groups of people to share the apps at once rather than individually sharing the app.

Thank you, Lisa, for providing this tutorial at no cost. I must say, I learned a great deal from this two-hour video, which kept me captivated throughout the session. It would be excellent if you could create a video explaining the various security roles, detailing the differences between them, such as the capabilities of a Basic User compared to an Environment Maker, and identifying the highest level of role, among others.

This is a great place to start when you know nothing about Power Apps. Thank you so much for putting this out there Lisa. I watched the complete tutorial and had the working app at the end. In the beginning of the tutorial (~11:10), you talk about packaging the solution and moving it around to test or debugging environments. Do you have a tutorial about how to do that?
Again, thank you for making this available.

Hi Lisa, Thank you thank you. From this tuturial in 24 hours I have been able to create an app for my manager that tracks meetings, activities, tasks and people!! So powerful. I have learn't so much from all your tutorials. Please don't stop!! The back end info about security roles was extremely helpful too! The only issue I have is getting the colours into the app. In a previous tutorial you did it explained going to the classic version. I have tried both and either it's take time to sync and I'm not patient or I've done something wrong. Are you open to topics for some new tutorials? i have a long list

At 1:29:44 the data delimiter is quotation mark but the sample csv provided does not have quotation mark. However it is imported successfully! Why?

  • @banksa71
    @banksa71 2 місяці тому

Thanks Lisa, great tutorial, One gotcha that made the import fail was changing the format of the date fields in my personalised setting to a different format to the Date Time fields in the csv files made it fail. I changed them back and now it works. I was then able to update my Personalised settings after the import.

    • @LisaCrosbie
      @LisaCrosbie  2 місяці тому

Yes, that's a gotcha, sorry. I work in dd/mm/yyyy format but did the original spreadsheets and demo in the US date format. Your spreadsheet needs to be consistent with your setup. Next time I will pick dates that work either way!

An excellent video! Thoroughly enjoyed the course, many thanks Lisa! I had a minor issue importing the Applications.csv file, but I realised that is due to the 'Interview Start Time' being in US date format, whereas I needed it to be in dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm (UK format), but once you change the dates to the desired format, it works perfectly! Thanks.

Lisa, can you please do a video where Power Automate sends a reminder email 2 weeks, 1, weeks, and 1 day before a dataverse due date column?

This is an excellent tutorial, the approach of building something practical and explaining as you go works really well. Thank you so much for doing this.

This was a very good tutorial - thank you. Quick question - have you experienced the business process workflow not showing up on the form? When I inspect the Application form I get this: Cannot read properties of null (reading 'colorNeutralBackground1') .

Thank you so much for this video and going through in so much detail. One issue I did come across at the end is the button on the welcome page which should navigate to the Appointments table doesn't work. :( When new interviews times are added, does it get added to the Appointments table by default? I don't understand why we are trying to link it to the Appointments table when it isn't being used/referenced anywhere else in the application. Thank you in advance.

About the 1:41:35, you press the + button and able to call the quick create form (Application) but I cannot see the option for Application. I only have "Contact". Do you know what step I missed?

I have found it incredibly useful. In fact, I have a project to develop, and this course covers 50% of it. The other 50% will involve developing an application for employee management once they have been hired. Do you have any tutorials for this? It would be great to have them; additionally, I need to know how to integrate both systems so that they function as one. This way, a user with the appropriate permissions would only see the recruitment section, while Human Resources would have access to the other section, and the general administrator would be able to see both. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge and help us. Of course, I would be happy to buy you a coffee.😊

I don’t have a tutorial for employee management but you can use the same principles as shown here to create your data model and app. You can use the same environment and create a new app with additional tables and its own navigation for that employee management side, then control the permissions with user roles so only the right users have access to that other app and the tables it uses. Good luck!

Very nicely explained tutorial, got some fair knowledge on working on these things. Appreciate it, please create more complex applications, I basically want to create an application, where all my team can use it for managing operations, also is there a way to create a dynamic forms on the fly and decide what field names, what field types they can be and etc. basically like i want to create my own tracker on the fly instead of updating the app every time with new table or something?? Also I want to do some analytics here..

Thanks so much Lisa... great presentation as usual. I had an issue in that the search bar is replaced by a magnify glass, but I assume that is because of "version" that my company uses... I have seen that this type of view has changed over time that my organisation has been developing their D365 migration

I’ve seen that happen when your browser zoom is high, try dropping that down. It’s a responsive application so things on the screen change to fit.
