I think adding an option of disabling bottom half of all tracks could be a good way to fix the player base. This way people could choose how competitive they want to play in some level. Thank you Nmeade & Troy, these Mondays really are cracked.
If you're looking for an idea for FlounderFest to do in the future, I made a mod called "Mario Kart Wii: Gimmick Vehicle Edition" that has a lot of unique vehicles. Some examples are a vehicle with perfect speed and acceleration but zero handling and negative drift acceleration that makes it reach zero km/h when drifting for just one frame, a vehicle that can go backwards at full speed or...maybe I shouldn't give too many spoilers for the case you wanna give it a try. For fairness reasons I suggest that you and Troy always use the same character vehicle combination. If you're considering this, I'll give some suggestions (all with manual drift): Funky Kong Offroader Koopa Jet Bubble Mario Zip Zip Dry Bones Bullet Bike Koopa Cheep Charger I didn't know how to remove the "Worldwides" options, make sure to play "Regionals" or just create a friendroom.
Will leave space so I do not spoil the result :) The way Nick gets absolutely destroyed in most of these races is truly heartbreaking. I agree that CTGP is just way too competitive and most of the tracks are just not very friendly for busy or new people. HOWEVER we will be very happy to see Nick react to every CTGP WR out there, may the watchtime be with you and good luck for next Season! #HydrationNation

Great series, and I enjoyed the conversation about CTGP. I'll always thank CTGP for what it did for the mario kart community. I always thought that trying to move away from CTGP would harm the community more than it would help. I think I'm convinced that if mario kart wii is to live any longer it needs to go it without CTGP. I don't fault beans quantity over quality approach 15 some odd years ago, but I think that mistake doomed the distribution to be unapproachable. Retro rewind seems like a good option, though I do feel bad for the Metabuses of the world who make Nintendo-quality tracks -- its a shame they're drowned out in CTGP. Thanks for the content.

I remember one time you opened up with "how's it fellas going." 😂 I'm now a firm believer that MarioKart needs a casual and advanced mode. This goes for base MarioKart, but yeah, this would probably be good for CTGP track selection as well.
n64 wario stadium is planned to be replaced with the retro rewind version after some minor updates, unfortunately that version is very much disliked by competitive players so it's been a very rough grind from what I've seen
Troy is so dramatic about n64 mario raceway, when you finished I had to go back and check if it glitched because I was so ready for it to actually be 5 minutes lmao

Hey, Nick, CTGP Admin here (admins being those who run the Track Council) I think that the statement that you'd remove 80% of the CTs is not quite it, and I think you acknowledge that in your clarification right below. I think it's fair to say that CTs nowadays are better than ever before, as well as that CTGP does a decent job of adding the best of the best new CTs in all of its latest track updates. With that said, I think that it's actually the opposite of what you described - a minority of the pack that causes the majority of problems. It's a small percentage of the tracks, such as Peaks, Six King, Pipe Underworld, Melting Magma Melee, etc. that are so casual-unfriendly so as to alienate casuals offhand when they're picked, even if they're balanced out by five quality tracks in a CTWW. We're limited in our ability to remove these tracks - Bean insists on tracks with high playcount staying in, despite the main reason these have high playcount being that they're easy to pick and abuse (though admittedly, each of those do have significant followings in the comp space, further complicating things). We've talked to Bean about this to not much success (as I've told Troy many times in DMs, haha). What we are doing for the pack is trying to work around this by updating tracks as we can (e.g. an update to Peaks is in the works) and working on a potential new CTWW mode, with Troy's input, that would primarily consist of more accessible tracks. It's a strong belief of Track Council that there is merit to many of the more complicated CTs - after all, many of these try amazing and cool things that Nintendo Tracks would never do, and that in many ways symbolizes CTs at their best. With that said, we're acutely aware of the demoralizing effect that an overwhelming amount of complicated custom tracks will have on new players. Hopefully, this new CTWW mode - a CTGP "starter pack," if you will - can provide a gateway for newer players to enter the wonderful world of CTs without taking away the more intricate designs that seasoned vets of the CT scene know and love. Happy to talk more in DMs about other thoughts from you on the pack - my discord is @jcmkw. We've got a lot cooking and are doing our best to keep the pack healthy.
With RR taking over it’s fine as it is no? The majority of players who want to just hop into WWs without having to learn all the tracks can play that distribution, and the seasoned competitive CT players have their space on CTGP.
@@BBTBNWJDFOTSYK i think that giving up on non-comp players being into cts is quite depressing. CTs are such a wonderful world, and it admittedly is depressing when our biggest content creators with the most influence shit talk by saying stuff like “80% of tracks should be removed” when in reality I do believe that many of the tracks in ctgp are the best ever made. Think back to the joy young troy had fucking around on CTs back on RTCT. That’s what it’s all about. CTs are awesome and creative and try extremely cool ideas, even if they by nature aren’t going to be accessible to every first time casual because they’re trying wacky new concepts - I think that far more harmful is the mentality for non-comp players that they should have a chance to win on every track without any experience on it. CTGP has about half of the 218 where it is pretty straightforward (no opaque cuts or even much tech) but IMO some of the best tracks in the pack are the best because they try cool new things. with that said, we’re trying to appeal to this unfortunate mentality towards cts by making a starter pack worldwide mode, but long term we hope it serves as a means by which new players can want to learn more about all the cool more complex cts not on that list.
@@JCmkwii I don't agree with Nick on that. It's bold to say that without having tried or practiced the tracks before ⬇️ What I do think is: The shortcuts should be more rookie-friendly on all CT's. It's obvious that some scuts are made with the intention that not everyone can perform them, but even if there are better players, I think that everyone should have access to fun and feel complete (since the best players will continue to be better in other aspects) I'm referring to specific shortcuts found in tracks such as: CTR gin labs, Candy Coaster, Flying Kingdom, Color Wonderland, Glimmer Express, Lumpys, Mystic Tangle, New Moon Manor, Spooky Swamp, Aquadrom ramp to Chomp etc. ...It's about making things more accessible, like you recently did with the Sahara Hideout shortcut, which is great. (Note that I say this as someone who knows how to do all the shortcuts) but it is very tedious to have to practice hours and hours to be able to do them, and even then they don't always turn out well. For me, great CTs that give an example of what I say are Christmas Court and Wiimfi Wonder Ofc I appreciate your effort! CTGP is great, but everyone could like it much more. Imo I would also eliminate all the retros, for that there are other mods, and what makes CTGP special and beautiful is CTs, but as I mentioned before, with more accessible shortcuts in general
Hoping you guys get to play some fun stuff now, please don't feel the need to finish the rest of the tracks. I'm sure the majority of us want to see something more engaging like RR.
