I just dont get it, to me this was the worst show ever! I would play it as a background noise when i was doing something or just in my phone.
Season 6 and 5 are debatably as funny if not more funny writing wise it’s just most the cast had left by then so the ensemble and plots weren’t as strong making them worse seasons then the first 3

Trajectory is an understatement. He is a force of nature -became a show writer on 30rock, then starred in a hit series, did music on the side, became a hit musical act, acted in movies, back to TV. Most people stop at any one of those careers and he just keeps going and succeeding. Amazing!

How can you not recognize his success. I'm glad he's coming back to Comm. but his other shows are so much better.
Respect to Dan Harmon and the community writers for creating such a great character for Donald to portray. Perfect combination of amazing comedic talent on behalf of the acting and the writing.
To be honest I think they were inspired by Donald's performances when he was a UA-camr back in the day (I think 16 years ago) his UA-cam characters were very similar. I think the channel was either "Derrick Comedy" or "Cedric Comedy" and the video that made him big was "spelling bee"

Chevy Chase hated that his character was racist and bigoted and when saying one of his lines he got so upset he said, "next your gonna have me call him an N-Word." And stormed off set. They then took his one use of that word and made it seem like he was casually racist in real life.
I mean yea I get hes upset but maybe thats not the best way to convey it lmao, "Im tired of playing a racist character so Im going to yell a racist slur out of character!" just not a good look either way, but who knows maybe the crew was trying to make him look much worse than he really was.

Harmon knew and understood because in terms of being one’s own creative boss, he is the same way. Harmon has always bristled when working for others. I don’t think he liked Donald leaving the show, but he respected it and never criticized him.
This isn’t Chevy Chase’s fault. Glover left when his artistic freedom became more important to him than the money and fame from Community.
Trust me, but Chase was a big factor in Donald Glover leaving. Not saying he's the whole reason or the straw that broke the camel's back. But it was a huge part of it. A disrespectful coworker who the bosses will keep and get rid of you instead to solve the "problem", it'll make you want to leave first

So for contacts Donald and Chase actually got along pretty decently it's the fallout from Chase and hammons beef because that caused them to fallout with each other do to Hammon not liking chase feedback and in return they made the character worse to the point he said you might as well just have me say the n word and make him a racist too

I've been following this dude since Derek Comedy and he showed me that I didn't have to give up music to pursue my comedy. Amazing human being and even if I'm a quarter as successful as him, I'd still be very successful.

Chevy never called Donald the n word. Donald said that as a joke and confirmed it later that Chevy never said that to him. Chevy chase got along with everyone except Dan Harmon who was himself a bastard on set. I feel like everyone piles on Chevy when he really didn't do anything wrong. He was an older guy with a legendary career who didn't want to shoot scenes with no script at 3 am and Dan made him out to be a problem child because of it. Donald left community because his career was taking off and it was time for him to move on. It sucked but that's life.
I mean I've heard that Chevy was a bastard to work with long before community. I know for a fact he had a drug problem but that was in 80s

Sticking the Chevy stuff in here makes no sense, dude left the show before Donald did. Donald also said that he has never had problems with Chevy and would tell him that he liked him on NASH. Donald was having personnel issues, working on music and just got the okay to do Atlanta. He didn't have time to be on someone else's sitcom for the rest of his life.
It's just there because 'muricans love race-baiting every chance they get
because it's part of the harassment you take lying down when you're a fresh face up against a known name. It wasn't the final pull of the trigger but it was part of cementing that this was not his space and he was ultimately answering to someone else.
It's important additions because it's stating that he would've been in his every moral right to object heavily to that treatment, but anyone who's been on the receiving end can tell you that in the moment it's going to be you who're being accused of "starting drama".
One of the worst things about racism and bigotry in general is how it's often dismissed and turned invisible, leaving you alone to make a judgement on how to act and deal with the fallout.

I remember watching him on Derrick Comedy and then eventually in the movie Mystery Team. Was crazy to see him blow up enough to reach Community and eventually become Childish Gambino. Truly a master of his art

The Chevy Chase story is he was actually taking offense to some of the things his character was saying. And to make that point he said "you might as well have me saying n*gger"
They told him he was crazy for leaving 30 Rock then for leaving Community. He's one of the greatest artists & writers of this generation , maybe ever.✌️

I don't blame him for leaving, dealing with Chevy and Harmon can't be easy, and I'm sure season 4 was a real drag to work on with basically the whole writing cast being changed. I'm so glad his career has gone so well, and now he's going to return for the movie which is going to be awesome
I was super sad when he left and will miss "Troy & Abed in the Morning" forever, but looking back he made the right decision. The show peaked at season 3, so it was the right moment to go. Plus he probably wouldn't have had time for his other projects if he'd stayed, and these really took off.

I think Donald Glover is the greatest creative we have seen in a long time. All of his work is unique and spectacular. However in a world that only appreciates mediocrity his work isn't valued for what it is.

I’m a Dan Harmon fan but he was very shitty to Chevy and pushed him over the edge. The writing of Pierce’s character was get so over the top that Chevy said “are you going to start making me say n****r?” He was being critical of the writing getting into racist territory but him being painted as the bad guy is such bullshit.
People pointing out Chevy has always been difficult when Dan picked on him and harassed a women who rejected him until she quit.

There is one part of community that really gave me chills, one of my biggest fears are hospitals, psychiatric trances and asylums. The episode where they get gaslighted into thinking that they were in an asylum gave me a big scare. Another one of these is the single frame in G.I Jeff where the study group overlooks jeff while he is in the coma. That sent chills down my spine.

The show Community used to be hilarious to me. But when you feel like it time to move on. You just need to move on and move forward. Change can be good for us all in the long run. We tend to fear change but it can end up being the best thing for us.

My understanding was that Chevy got so fed up with just how over-the-top bigoted his character was being written that he snapped after reading a script one day and said something to the effect of, "what next? Are you guys gonna have me say [the actual n-word] on camera next?"
That being said, even then he shouldn't have said it, and I get how that could and should make Glover feel a certain kind of way.
If it was a common thing though, then Chase was allowed to stay there way too long honestly.
