ogdens nut gone flake was a bloody masterpiece.....in my opinion its one of the best albums of all time. i know you might not agree with me on this but i love everything on it.
Fabulous! and so right there can NEVER be another Steve Marriott... The Small Faces would be Gigantic today I loved these guys and still do, and I wish Steve had still been with us, God Bless x
It was genius adding Stanley to the record, I remember listening to it during school break with friends and feeling far out man deep joy for this musey most.
One of the first "concept" albums of the era. Coming down after a night of acid heavies, fire one up and put on Ogden's with a speaker by each ear and "close my eyes and drift away ..." to a very nice place. Love the big boom bass and the guitar on Renee' - nobody, not even Hendrix did that.
@ipolson I was there - I was 18 in 1967. You're right about the tremendous impact of "Sgt. Pepper," but I still loved "ONGF" in a way I never loved anything the Beatles did. Pete Townshend, with his own claim (or two) to concept album greatness, once called "Ogden's" the best concept album ever, and I agree. Each to his own!
Did just that last night :) The whole album on the night of a black moon. 'how can i remember to keep it all together when half the moon is taken away?!' heh, very fitting!
Brilliant piece of work. And including Stanley Unwin as a narrator for the Tale of Happiness Stan was truly inspired. As the great man would have said himself: "Here beholdy manifold things Stanley Unwinmost - all deep joy and thorkus for great laugh'n tittery. O yes!" :-)
Oh at last! This track has been blocked here for so long, I've really missed it. ONGF is an all-time favourite album for me, brilliant band and Marriott's voice is/was quite simply, magic. Talented group of guys who were a huge part of my musical youth, loved them.
London if one is still taking could you please tell me the name of the old man who narrates from time to time even though I could Google it I prefer people to people talk
1.09-2.10,when I was 15 and dreaming about being a rock star, what they do in that minute was the way I thought it should be and I hadn't even heard this yet.I was crap and doomed to failure yet these guys had everything and lost it all. They could have been true hall of famers and got shafted.Marriot's talent is obvious but my God,how underrated is Ronnie Lane in the grand scheme of things? A horribly undervalued legend.
So underrated Ogdens Nut Gone Flake should be at the top of the tree simply magical music and the first band who were sadly together for a short time ..
Yes, R.I.P Steve Marriot and Ronnie Lane!!!!! I'd give everything to hear you one more time live together. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. A hymn becomes you, O God, in Zion, and to you shall a vow be repaid in Jerusalem. Hear my prayer; to you shall all flesh come.
I just love this album (Nut Gone Flake). No one can touch Steve Marriott's talent (in any area), or his heart and soul in his music. As Mick Jagger said.."his pixie voice could lead small children over a cliff or he could bray like a donkey and his voice turn your skin to ice".Or as Robert Plant said " I wanted to BE Steve Marriott" (in the book All or Nothing) R.I.P. Steve...🎤
I first heard this whole album when I was 16, 41 years ago. A 60s classic of all time. I still love listening to it but with out the substances except maybe a couple quality reds.
Thanks you are nearly a life saver. Do you have the whole story of happiness Stan? If so, could you please put it all in sequence? Thanks again. Tossdart. :D
Thanks for the suggestion. I used to have IROBOT on a dinosaur known as the cassette and haven't heard it for a long time. Unfortunately the Essential collection of Alan Parsons Project left off a real essential on my ipod imo. You have a great taste in music. Ditto on the day.
Excellente vidéo et excellente musique , qui n'est pas sans rappeler celle de 'Sergent Pepper...' des Beatles , comme cela a été dit. Avec le sympathique récitant-roi Stanley Unwin , auquel la chanson fait référence.
Although credits say Marriott/Lane, this is Steve's song. Rollin' Over came from a jam that they did in the studio - thank you Glyn Johns for pressing a rec. button ;) , otherwise we wouldn't have had this gem. Hungry Intruder is Ronnie's. The Journey came from Ronnie's idea too. Mad John is Steve's song. Happy Days Toy Town- that was mainly Mac's but with contribution of Ronnie and Steve too.
Oh man, I had the part that starts at 1:44 stuck in my head one odd day, and I couldn't remember which song it was. Lol, now I have completed the memory.
The man @the start is named Stanley Urwin. He worked on Odgen. He developed a language from reading to his childern called it UNWINSESE. He was artiste, artiste and revered by John Lennon. Worked in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, radio,TV, and befriended Steve.Ronnie also was a friend.A chiartable & gentleman who's career spaned 6 decades.Passed away @90. This has been posted due to negative comment's about him on other postings. This was a Brilliant Album no doubt.
myztikt - I agree with what you say 100%+. There are warehouses worth of footage not publicly available, it'll be too late after we're all dead to bring it out!! I've often wondered exactly what it is they're waiting for. Just as an example; how is it they managed to pull the complete Hendrix set from Woodstock and put it out, but nothing even on the horizon for the Woodstock sets of The Who, Ten Years After, Santana, Joe Cocker? I could quote many many more, but you get the picture!!
Marriott-Lane were definately underrated as songwriters. Though they didn't write a lot of good songs (quite a few fillers on albums - apart from ONGF), they did write a few great songs, as did Ronnie Lane when he went solo !
@ipolson Hi. By Pete's "concept album greatness," I meant "Tommy" and "Quadrophenia." I don't think greatness has anything to do with having number 1 singles or albums, but you're right about Pete's bias and you're right that technically neither SP nor ONGF are concept albums in the strictest sense. BTW, another one of my favorite concept albums - again, using the term loosely, since the songs do tell a continuous story albeit one written for a British TV show - is "Arthur," by the Kinks.
Why are so many of the bands or individuals I love so marred by tragedy? Has Ronnie got MS and did Steve Marriott die in a house fire? They are in ignorant bliss here..young, carefree and now their lives ..so terribly sad, it makes me want to cry..
@Whofan1000: Of course, its all about opinions. I have an interview with Ian McLagan where he says that it was their attempt at a 'Sgt Pepper'. But Sgt Pepper is not a 'concept' album . As JL said, none of the tracks are connected story/theme wise. Apart from the reprise at the end, there is no link. In fact ONGF is not really a 'concept album' either. Yes, side 2 is Ronnie's story of Stan, but Side 1 is totally unrelated. Good old Pete, best mates with Ronnie Lane, no bias there then !!
@Whofan1000: I agree that sales are not everything. Personally, with regard to The Who, I prefer the earlier stuff myself , 'I Can't Explain' , 'I Can See For Miles' etc. Agree about the Kinks, very creative songwriter Mr Davies. Hey, its all good stuff !
This isn't mimed, it's a live recording. The laugh from Ronnie Lane just before the heavy bit kicks in isn't on the LP. Also, Stanley Unwin's storytelling is different to that on the LP.
Thanks. I'm beginning to understand why the Sex Pistols referred to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a piss stain. And how could they induct Neil Diamond before Donovan even? I'm glad I was born when I was born. All of my teen years were lived in the sixties. Thank God for the rock music of the past. I got to see groups like the Who and Mott the Hoople, Kinks and Jefferson Airplane in their prime.
There doesn't have to be a 'best' album, because 'best' is about opinion. To Kylie Minogue fans, her album is the best ! I bought ONGF the day it came out. Lets just say its up there as a great album of the 60's, but there are so many others you could put in that category from the 60's.
Best band of the 60s by a mile.. Superb sound and very talented.
Best band. Best narrator.
The whole Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake album is just brilliant. I loved it 40 some years ago and love it today.
The most underrated, creative, musical, positive, psychedelic, etc etc writers of the late 60's - they just hit the nail on the Farckin' Head!!!!!
ogdens nut gone flake was a bloody masterpiece.....in my opinion its one of the best albums of all time. i know you might not agree with me on this but i love everything on it.
I agree strongly
Totally agree. I have played Happiness Stan for my children and grandchildren. And post Mad John lyrics--they apply to today.
I and a trillion others from the ERA that mattered agree !!! :)
It's a masterpiece.
Oh deep joy on the stereo and waltz it wurlitizer sintiladen danglit around the ear droves for such duratation of that it's been since, marvelous.
Fabulous! and so right there can NEVER be another Steve Marriott...
The Small Faces would be Gigantic today I loved these guys and still do, and I wish Steve had still been with us, God Bless x

Its a fine album, and their 45's were great too, I agree.
This album has kept me happy for a very long time.
Ditto. I was 18 when I bought it. I'm soon to turn 53.
@@Ogma3bandcamp I just turned 55 last week. Have a great birthday mate.
I wish my copy of this song included that little laugh. I love it!
The story of happiness Stan really needs to be listened to on magic mushrooms... perfect trip music :-)
Did just that last night :) The whole album on the night of a black moon. 'how can i remember to keep it all together when half the moon is taken away?!' heh, very fitting!
don't worry about the moon - looks after itself :D
Have mate ,only way 👍
Acid worked pretty well, IIRC....
This is the best a bloody gem love it and that laugh!! Love SF forever they are and always will be, brilliant lights in this world.
such a great band ... still influential today.
rip Steve (2009-04-20)
I really should be doing something different but I can't stop watching Small Faces videos, damn ;)
they look like their having so much fun :)
O yes!" :-)
After seen this.. There is absoluetly no doubt that Steve Marriot and Ronnie Lane were geniuses!

The great Professor Stanley Unwin
1.09-2.10,when I was 15 and dreaming about being a rock star, what they do in that minute was the way I thought it should be and I hadn't even heard this yet.I was crap and doomed to failure yet these guys had everything and lost it all. They could have been true hall of famers and got shafted.Marriot's talent is obvious but my God,how underrated is Ronnie Lane in the grand scheme of things? MARRIOTT - the REAL DEAL
We'll not get another one like him :'(
one of a kind, so underestimated that it is ridiculous and it depresses me a lot.
They are laughing 😂 ❤ I love them
I am listening to some of these songs for the first time
Revelation ! ❤
I can see the roots of early 80s metal in this.
Brilliant and innovative how they managed to accommodate Stanley Unwin in this. Stan was my dad's favorite. He really was unique.
So underrated Ogdens Nut Gone Flake should be at the top of the tree simply magical music and the first band who were sadly together for a short time ..
You may have had to much tree

Found this album in a drop box in a music store in Jackson Michigan for $3.00 .Best money I ever spent !
Superior talent and material that just seems to get better with each new play.
Laugh at 1:03 soooo good. Modern practice would polish that out, much to everyone's loss
I LOVE this man ... his voice is amazing
one of the albums that changed my life!
Hooray Small faces are on youtube in a cool way. Happy day toy town newspaper smile!
I had no idea this video existed! My favorite side two ever! Thank you so much!
I just love this video of The Small Faces, and will vote for them, cant believe they`re way behind? but shall do my bit, as they are the very BEST!
They always looked like they were having so much fun
I miss the Small Faces so much, especially Steve Marriott. He was amazing.
I sing this to myself whenever I feel an episode coming on
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 74yo Aussie fan.
What a genius Steve was & the others are great also.
Great channel!! Thank you for all this great music from my childhood!!!
I just love this album (Nut Gone Flake). No one can touch Steve Marriott's talent (in any area), or his heart and soul in his music. I love the part from 1:07 - 01:35.. So powerful.. And that bass is mighty fine! :D
Thanks you are nearly a life saver. Do you have the whole story of happiness Stan? If so, could you please put it all in sequence? Thanks again. Tossdart. :D

Stan the man Unwin, true gobbledegook, a legend!
Deep joy, deep folly!
certainly better than sgt peppers

@MissMopPop I've noted that and this is my first time seeing this-fantastic : )
love ronnies lanes shirt and cravat in this plus its a genius tune

steve marriott the original mr cool... nuff said!!
Are you sitting too square on your botty? Then I'll begin. :)
Genius band; perhaps too clever to be fully appreciated at the time.
I love!
so real!!
Why are so many of the bands or individuals I love so marred by tragedy? Has Ronnie got MS and did Steve Marriott die in a house fire? They are in ignorant bliss here..young, carefree and now their lives ..so terribly sad, it makes me want to cry..
haha, that smile at 1:02 :D
A Stanley Unwin bit was left out from the start, it is a heresy I tell you, a heresy!!!
I thought so. Thanks for that. Isn't life cruel? As Harrison said - "All things Must Pass'.

szuper zene.
I stated in a previous post about Jimmy Winston who played organ. He's also departed. Leaving Kenny Jones?
they r the greatest so says maya mod

Once upon a time in the land of greens
Where the sky was silky soft
And full of coloured dreams
Deep inside a rainbow lived Happiness Stan
In a small Victoriana charabanc
Evening will be here quite soon
Stan can sit and watch the moon
Watching as the white light
Slowly makes the night bright
Hours slipping by while time stands still
Think of black and black will think for you
It's covered Stan in bruises, of the darkness that he knew
For black has stolen half the moon away

I'm sure they did it!

ahhh.. now this is music for my tortured soul....
@MrElbino And I just bought it the other day! What a discovery!
Oh, there he is at 2:15..
I used to have this LP until it was stolen n now I cannot get it. Do you believe it
Yeah, the Hollies were great. They had some of the richest harmonies in rock.
This isn't mimed, it's a live recording. The laugh from Ronnie Lane just before the heavy bit kicks in isn't on the LP. Also, Stanley Unwin's storytelling is different to that on the LP.
A masterpiece.Put's Parklife in a cocked hat.
OGNF is imo when the Small Faces went down... their 45s is where's it's at.
Thanks. I'm beginning to understand why the Sex Pistols referred to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a piss stain. And how could they induct Neil Diamond before Donovan even? Where's the rest of it?
There doesn't have to be a 'best' album, because 'best' is about opinion. To Kylie Minogue fans, her album is the best ! I bought ONGF the day it came out. Lets just say its up there as a great album of the 60's, but there are so many others you could put in that category from the
