I only got sobriety and therapy this year, and allowed myself to cry for the what felt like the first time in my life. Everyone has feelings as a human and it’s unhealthy to suppress those emotions.

I think its not about gender anymore; as much as it still has its impact on cultures. Nowadays, whomever is the provider and protector, becomes the one who shoulders everything, and the one who hides every emotion deep inside in order to get going at this age and time, whether its male or female regardles of gender but that of roles/postions.
Good obersvation. The suppresion of emotions carries on to all genders of all ages. I do think surpressed sadness is more carried over from father to son and likewise surpression of anger is more likely to carried over from mother to daughter. Anyways, a good sidenote to mention
