CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The music and dancing stop when Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfayden) and his friends enter the room. He and Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) share a glance.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Jane Austen's perennially popular story of the game of love among the British upper classes returns to the screen in this polished film adaptation. The Bennets (Brenda Blethyn and Donald Sutherland) are the parents of five daughters near the close of the 18th century. Comfortable within their means but well short of rich, Mr. and Mrs. Bennet are looking for suitable husbands for their girls, and they are encouraged to learn that an eligible young bachelor from a wealthy family, Charles Bingley (Simon Woods), has moved into a nearby estate. Eager to see if a match can be made, the Bennets bring their daughters Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) and Jane (Rosamund Pike) to a ball thrown by their new neighbor to see if sparks will fly. Jane seems to like Charles, and he appears to feel the same, but Elizabeth takes an immediate dislike to Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen), Charles' egocentric best friend. While Elizabeth is infatuated with military man Lt. Wickham (Rupert Friend) and finds herself courted by William Collins (Tom Hollander), a well-meaning but drab man of the cloth, fate causes Elizabeth and Darcy to frequently cross paths, and while they don't care for one another, they can't stop thinking about each other, either. Pride & Prejudice also stars Jena Malone, Judi Dench, and Penelope Wilton.

i live for his double take
what is that mean
Darcy's eyes mindlessly glance over the faces in the crowd, but for like a split second right at 1:50, when they land on Elizabeth, he sees her, starts to turn his head away, but quickly turns back to look at her again.
thank you
I've watched this movie like a hundred times but never noticed the double take. OMG.
@@cleoambrosia omg virtual slap. lmao
The thing I loved about this scene is when Mr Darcy observed Elizabeth and immediately looked away. Shows an instant attraction right from the beginningh
Wait really because that’s what my crush did the first time too now all he dis es is stare at me all the time, blushes as tomato , tries to talk to me and asked for my number. My friends and his friends say he has a huge crush on me and to just ask him out . Do u guys think he dies and I should ask him ?
Does not die autocorrect

Kathryn Orozco you should!

I love that line "... he owns half of Derbyshire"
Elizabeth: "... the miserable half"
And in the book she never said that...
Hannah Corbitt shade 😂😂😂
I love that line "Which of the painted peacocks is Mr. Bingley?" 😂😂
Though I don't remember reading it in the book!

@@aiijn I know!!!!! Pride and Prejudice is my favourite book. I have read it more than 20 times and I am 24.😋😋😋😋
OMG, he did a double take. I can watch that over and over. Thinking in my mind.....he's finally met his match. Love it.
0230Raveena Yes, that double take is so wonderful.. how gorgeous Matthew is and he´s perfect...
0230Raveena Men have been giving me double takes since 1985. So what
+0230Raveena I know how Darcy feels. You're not expecting to meet your match in certain social settings, and then......BOOM. I wonder if you ladies will ever know how difficult it is to articulate your interest in a woman without sounding like an absolute nose bleed.

"...and he owns half of Derbyshire."
"The miserable half?"
Oh, Lizzy.
lol I actually laughted :D
Zoe Herron 😂
Zoe Herron In Austen's world if you aren't rich you might as well have a personality.
@@nooribrahim7868 how miserable. 😟 shallow world where no one would even notice your demeanor being so preoccupied with the size of your big hangin’ wallet. 👝
If you look closely you can see him do a small double take when he sees Elizabeth.
True True!!! Hehehe:P
Don't forget his total 'oh crap' turn from her when she catches him eyeing her XD
Literally the first thing I saw when I first saw this movie years ago!
Literally the first thing I saw when I first saw this movie years ago!
Omg nvr noticed that before!!!
2:54 notice how mr.darcy slightly moves his head and looks away when he is introduced because he is so socially awkward 😂.. such a cute detail
hes the cutest omg 😭
He is socially awkward but that it’s not the only reason why he acts like that. He’s very proud and he thinks the other people are very inferior in comparison to him. He doesn’t enjoy their company. Just Mr Bingley, Mrs Bingley and Mrs Hurst. But then, he changes his mind.
At least in the book it’s like that. He is very arrogant at the beginning but the movie wants the viewers to fall for him from the very beginning. A bit disappointing
I love how just after Jane tells Lizzy that 'someone will catch her eye', Mr darcy walks into the room. Perfect timing. Joe Wright is literally my idol for including such intricate detail in the film.
I had the same thought like jane ends the sentence with "...watch your tongue" and Mr. Darcy Enters the Room and I was like "thereeee heeee is!!!" 😂
Exactly, but then she doesn't have too because he loves her 'impertinence'

I missed it too, just went back and replayed a few times to suck it up for a few minutes...

I NEVER NOTICED THAT DOUBLE TAKE THO
I LOVE IT
LOL I know right !!!!
sonozaki what double take I didnt see it
ThunderPlunder101 Notice Mr Darcy at 1:51 precisely when he looks at Elizabeth.
sonozaki That was the moment he was in love with her. A love in first double take.
@@anum103 me encantaa!
Matthew Macfadyen is SO HANDSOME!
especially with bangs to cover that huge forehead!
CraftyLittleDevil ...and his voice is just amazing😍
Um...i dont know..
I love him more when he is so cold and miserable ....
He looks so much like my Love 💖
What I LOVE about Matthew Macfadyen's Mr. Darcy is how he's just socially awkward and shy like the rest of us... But at his roots he's the strong, protective man that us ladies dream about. (plus he's pretty damn attractive)
Well for 10,000 pounds a year, he could have warts and a leer and there would still be ladies liking him.
Indeed xd
1:50 Mr Darcy: Why am I here?
*looks at Lizzie*
Oh, that's why
Destiny brought him there. 😍 He doesn’t even like dancing! 💃🏽🕺🏼Wonder why love eludes when you search for it but just kind of hits you blindsided? Maybe Cupid’s shy? 🏹💕
1:50 never noticed he looks once and then when he is about to look away he goes back to take another look to Elizabeth
It look easy but it is hard to make something so subtle look good on camera when it is not natural at all
Imagine the smell in that room.
yeah, the great unwashed.
Tamy Lopez : she was jumping !.!
I think this while watching every period piece
They were rich, they had perfumes. I guess. Anyways it is gross.
Andrés F.S. lol
I always wondered why Lizzy laughed when she caught Mr. Darcy looking away. Now I get that she was amused that Darcy found her attractive but was too prideful to make it known 😂 This movie just gets better the more I watch it
No,she was laughing with her friend over the miserable look of Darcy. She never knew Darcy liked her before he proposed to her.
She didn't notice I think
Yep. It’s a kinda cute double take with a quick look the other way. … men.
I think she laughed at how their eyes met, the instant attraction and how she may someday marry this man. Hence the laugh because it was such an absurd thought at the moment
that one seemed a little odd to me, it would've made more sense if it was a smile over a giggle, because the giggle is a little to sudden.
2:39 notice Mr.Darcy's eyes drifted towards Elizabeth!
Lol and trying not to be obvious about it
Why they gotta walk in like the Volturi in Twilight. Damn.
+Jhania Smith omg I had the same thought too
+Jhania Smith LOL probably because they were the guests of honor. They were a lot more formal then.
+Nina Gold sq
Jhania Smith The Volturi speak like them. They speak like people did back then. For them it was normal.
practically it's Twillight who did copy from them :p
Best double take in film history!
Aaaaahhhhh the double take kills me
I just love the facial expressions of Mr. Darcy (Matthew M.) ... just captivating! it is not just acting...he can express 'feelings' perfectly!!!
After watching this several times, I noticed that Lizzy blushed when she caught Mr. Darcy looking at her. She blushed, then giggled. I read that the director decided no makeup for any of the actors, save for mascara on Caroline Bingley. So the blushing was part of Keira Knightley's acting👏👏👏.
where did you read this? I was trying to see if Keira tinted her eyelashes or something because they look darker than usual.
Why mascara and why just for her?
My absolute favorite version of Pride & Prejudice
I have read the book and seen both the 1995 and 2005 versions and I have to say I prefer this one with out a doubt. If you read the director's cut of this movie it shows how much detail not only went into the set/clothes/etc. but also into the little touches and words spoken under their breathes. This version is just so much more realistic and raw. The 1995 version just seemed too staged, although it was truer to the book. Matthew's Darcy is just so much more likable and understandable. And I LOVE the tomboyish twist Keira brings to Lizzie. This made for extremely powerful chemistry between the two.
I like this version a lot too (I never watched the other so I can't have an opinion on it). To my delight, my English professor also agreed with this movie (ignoring the lovey-dovey ending though lol), and he made me realize that as long as a movie adaptation holds the same themes as in the book, it doesn't have to necessarily follow the book word for word, scene by scene.
Penny Lane I absolutely agree. I shudder to think of how amazing and addicting this would have been if they had 6 hours to tell the story like the BBC series!
+Neal M I know right!!! But then I think, maybe one thing we love about this version is that so much of the essence of the story has been compacted in two hours and so it's short but powerful, therefore each glance, gesture, touch, etc conveys more meaning? Idk tbh.
+Penny Lane I really enjoyed this version of Mr Darcy, but not so much Lizzie. I mean -- she was so giggly and she was almost just like Lydia! Annoyed me very much, the Lizzie I know is solid and stands her ground and doesn't squeal like a little school girl. I liked the mini BBC series instead -- the Lizzie was more true and realistic.
+VOID ANAKIN There were things I liked about the BBC Lizzie, but, from the very start, the movie Lizzie better fit my mental image of Lizzie (I had already read the book). I thought the BBC Lizzie was too mature and reserved. In the book, Lizzie is described as intelligent, with "a lively, playful disposition."
This is deffinitely my 'comfort movie'.... I come back here whenever I feel a little down. I watched it at least twice a week at the beginning of quarantine last year, it nevera fails to lift my spirit 😌
Me too… I would love to love this way… Ah, Keira, Keira… :) From Brazil.
I can't stand how GOOD they are acting. McFayden having the instant expression of "f.. ff... fff.... what happened, no, noooo, she pretty, Darcy brain alarm" in his eyes and face and all the movements of his body.
Anyone who doesn't fall in love with this film the first time they see it must be mad but I am a hopeless romantic P.S No offence to anyone who dosent
Don't worry! I am also not in love wiz this movie
+Vilashinee Halkharee She said anyone anyone who doesn't love the film must be mad
totally agree
I have watched this movie 7 times in 5 days 😂
I have to admit I prefer Colin Firth as Darcy.
OMG Mr Darcy is GORGEOUS!
That hidden glance he sends her at 2:40 omg
I love how Mr. Darcy double look Lizzie and look away when she look up after the bow to see him. 😍😍😍
The moment Darcy and all of us fell in love with Keira Knightley
Same! She is so beautiful and sexy.
How cute is this! Mr.Darcy starring at lizzie x3 His eyes are soo beautiful!! I love this movie :)
She is so cute, but when she smiles... She is *perfect* and childish.
I resisted watching this movie for 12 freaking years because of Colin Firth. When I first heard this was coming out I looked at Matthew and said "Okay, he's kind of cute, whatever. But no. There is no other Darcy. Go away."
But Matthew quickly won me over because of his PERFECT acting and the deep voice, microexpressions, and body language that went with him. My god I have never felt such sexual tension in a movie before. Kiera and Matthew are ELECTRIFYING and now I honestly much prefer them over Ehle/Firth and I don't even care who knows!!! ❤️
psy-kylo-
AGREED
Same. 😜
I agree, I like this couple more. Really wish they'd done the movie as a miniseries instead like the Ehle/Firth production.
Love Colin Firth but Matthew comes a close second
1:11 this is like a scene when the F4 enters the room.
LMAO! My thoughts exactly!!!!
Mugen Mugay hahaha lol😂😂😂😂👏👏👏top comment

"Humorless poppycocks in my limited experience" Trueeeeeee
Mr Bingley took his time checking Jane out:P!!
Favorite version of this movie. Very well done.
I agree !
He loved her at first sight with that slick double take ! We caught you Mr. Darcy ! Lol
Oh god I'm so in love with this movie. the way Mr, Darcy looked at lizzie when he first saw her was amazing
Mr. Darcy is so incredibly hot - can't get enough of this movie!
Even old Darcy knew he was in trouble from 1:50 to 1:56. 😳🤔😏🤣
Let's see, I've watched three versions of this movie (1940, 1995 and 2008) and I have to say that this version was the best because of the total package and the character of Mr Darcy was much more believable. On the one hand he is strong, wealthy and handsome, but he's vunerable and his eyes give him away regarding his affections, no matter how hard he tries to hide it. Plus their chemistry works so much better than then other two versions hands down.
This is the best Darcy by far but ‘95 is goat Bc of that pond scene lol.
I agree. But I will say Firth played a guy you didn't like at first glance better. I never really disliked this Mr. Darcy, because of the vulnerability you mentioned.
Even the very sound of Mr. Darcy's footsteps are gorgeous!
Oh, that double take . . .
his double take and his immediate look away was adorable for some reason
Best part [Mr Darcy, do you dance?]
Darcy: Not if i can help it!
One of these days Lizzy, someone will catch your eye and then you'll have to watch your tongue... LOL .. Bravo Jane...
Narrator - she did indeed meet someone, but did not watch her tongue.
You can't make a Tomlette without breaking a few Gregs
This is so relatable. He was so attracted to her he couldn't look at her for another second.
But is no one going to talk about her cute laugh after Darcy looks away, Its like she was thinking "Did he just get embarrassed for looking at me twice? Haha must be in my head"
Frrrr!! You could tell both of them were attracted to eachother from the beginning!! They were just too prideful to do anything ab it then tho :0
@@Hannibalsbreakfast OMG I knowww!!! Darcy ruined it with his "not handsome enough for me", and then she heard it, and it was all downhill😂
1:46 favorite part 🤗💞 Mr. Darcy Definitely love at first sight he quickly looked Away 💕😊 and when Lizzie noticed it was so precious her expression when she looked up 🤗
The double glance he does is truely captivating
2:07 classic mrs bennet with a glass of alcohol! :)
She thirsty af 🤣🤣🤣

who does johanna mason play?
+Sarah Read lydia
+M Hall oh!!! hahaha yup now i see her!! thank you!!
And so is Annabelle from st trinians .
Hahahahaha
I love Darcy's double-take when he first sees Elizabeth. It's such a small detail that I didn't even notice it the first few times I watched the movie.
I love how mr. Darcy is just looking around and suddenly glances at Elizabeth which causes him to look at her. He then turns back and has this alarming expression that indicates him being aware (almost) of finding her extremely beautiful!
The acting is so on POINT from everyone. Even the smaller characters, like the mother. Or Jena Malone dancing in the background while the other girls are being introduced to Bingley/Darcy. I see you girl, giving that playful side-eye 😂👍
this is the best love story movie ever...the dialogues, the scenes, the music...Mr. Darcy (MM) is irresistible...he expressed emotions superbly...no actor could match him! i have watched this million times! i have been watching Little Dorritt...close to the character of Mr. Darcy (MM is tender, caring in these series and his facial expressions...captivating!
I LOVE MR DARCY. MY FAVORITE IS WHERE SHE IS VISITING HIS HOUSE AND HE CHASES HER OUTSIDE AND HE'S KIND OF TONGUE TIED. i also like when he is walking toward her in the end through the field. this is by far my favorite movie. he is charismatic, shy, smart and gorgeous. and keira is just beautiful with her honesty and smile. beautiful story. wonderful characters.
Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy had me at double take. So perfect! My favorite scene.
The double take
Then in the next scene when he is introduced to the all the Bennet family, he keeps his eyes on Lizze for most of that intro, and does another sort of double take with his eyes on her again.
"Do you dance, Mr. Darcy?" "Nah, nah, nah sister, you're not getting me to no secondary location!"
He only has eyes for her. Thats why they're alone
Just here to remind y’all, this Mr. Darcy is the same guy who plays Tom Wambsgans on succession.
Gosh! WHAT AN ACTOR. Hats off to you, Matthew. 👏🏼
I just saw the Keira knightly Wikipedia and she does not have awards she has a lot of nominations but she never wins
She deserves and Oscar omg
I just shocked
And Matthew does not have a golden glove or an Oscar but he has a bafta and others
so cute he takes a double look
He's like already in love with her (Bingley) the moment he sees Jane. Her beauty is incredible.
Harriet Bell I knew a Bingley loved Jane when she was walking in front of him at the ball and he couldn't help but to reach out and gentle grasp the ribbon hanging from her waist.
ijeleo92 I know Bingley loved her but his sister the vile evil woman she is disagreed
The double take is just... 😍😍😍😍😍😍 i repeat this scene a thousand times and still not over it!
😉🥰
It's a work of pure genius. I find it absolutely delightful.
That subtle double take. 🥰 I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve replayed it.
I'm 17 now but I would just love to go back into that century where there was no phones, no social media, just a social gathering of a whole town getting to know one another and enjoying the live music and each other's company in a magnificent gorgeous old building
Lizzie Grace yeaahh me too, i cant stand social media, especially Instagram. I just wish i was born in 19 century it was beatiful, no morons like today.
Lizzie Grace Take me with you if you ever get a chance to go back to that era!
If possible host a party and ask your friends to not bring thing phones. Or suggest to the party host that this will be a cellphone free event. Can always have a social gathering without them.
me too😁
You are mad. Dancind and balls is one thing but as a woman in that century you wouldn't have any rights at all... you would be property first of your father and then of your husband. Think a little before making that sort of comments.
THAT DOUBLE LOOK THOUGH!!! AH~
I've watched this movie countless times, and just now I noticed the double take he gives at her, it's such a subtle detail yet so important
As opposed to the barely a glance he gives her in the book.
I love this movie so much. It's the best adaptation for me. And I'm in love with Mr. Darcy; he's so handsome and sexy. Mathew is a great actor.
Words cannot describe how much I love this movie
....and they say Ben Franklin discovered electricity. Rubbish! That first glance at 1:53 tells me that it's really Lizzie and Mr. Darcy who deserve all the credit. ♥
0:17 I like the way the guy raising the tray motivates the camera move up. It's like the camera is dancing too.
Mr Bingley doesn't even know what he got himself into... His future wife is crazy and will almost bring him into jail.
Had the same thought when I saw her
What
+Claudia Sofia B ja, ja they are talking about Rosamund Pike and "Gone Girl"
+Brenda B oooooooohhhh thanks haha!
Hahahaha! Anyways, they dated in real life!
I know many people have criticized this version and said that the portrayal of Lizzie was inaccurate. I've read a few people's opinions who think that Jane Austen would've disapproved of this version entirely. However after multiple viewings I must say that in my opinion, this version is extremely uplifting and a very pleasant watch. I recommended it to all my friends.
I DID NOT NOTICE THAT DOUBLE TAKE HOLY HELL WHY AM I SMILING
Loved the way Mr. Darcy looked at Lizzy and looked away as if a THUNDERBOLT struck him!!
And quietly looks at her from the fire place, later saying she "tolerable" not to give his feelings away.
Ha! PRIDE!!
But thru' out the dance, his eyes follow her everywhere!!
Okay. Just finished watching the movie a few minutes ago... and I admit... I'm so stupid for putting this movie off for so long I never expected it to be this good. And the accent oooohhh the accent just adds more spice into it. I never peg Mr. Darcy as "handsome" during his first few appearances, but as the movie goes on he grows more handsome to my eyes 😂
May I just quietly observe: Talulah Riley is really pretty as Mary Bennet.
IKR! I really love her character in the book aswell, she's quiet but she's not silly like Lydia and kitty and she's intelligent, reads many books, and offers her opinion very confidently and articulately!! I wish the book featured more of her, and therefore so would the film.
Just Human I think that Mary was Jane Austen
1:39 #...oh god why? ...Bored...
1:50 #Jesus Christ! That's a pretty face.
Giovanna Y 1:54 the moment he was like "oh shit........I love her"
Why am I here? * Ow, thats why *
I had never notice how Mr Bingley's look keeps switching to Jane when they are being introduced
LOL can't help but love Mrs Bennett in this one. She says "I have two others but they're already dancing."
As if to say pick one please. Bingley constantly looks like the cat who ate the canary and I don't think his eyes leave Jane's face the entire night
forever my favourite movie. nothing ever can top that masterpiece.
The double take gives me LIFE
Been inlove with Pride and Prejudice since I've watched its 2005 version
I love this scene. It is one of the most lively scenes I've ever seen, with the continuous movement. Music, people....everything is moving. So wonderful.
"one of these days Lizzie, someone ill catch your eye and then you have to watch your tongue"
and cue Darcy!
Darcy loved her at first sight. That quick glance & he was hooked.
have to watch more than once
omg before they get introduced to the three and even as they at the start, mr darcy's line of sight is very obviously in elizabeth's direction
Matthew Macfadyen is the one and only Mr Darcy for me ❤❤❤
1.49 that moment. the begining of his love
özge kılıç 1:51
I immediately rewinded that scene when he had a first glimpse of Lizzie. Matthew’s eyes are something, he can act with them alone.
