my rule of thumb is always staying in the same scent family. if my fragrance has a vanilla scent. then I start off with vanilla lotion/moisturizer. same goes for fruity smells or sweet florals. ill occasionally mix vanilla with fruity.

Myiesha, you are so eloquent when you describe fragrances. 😊 Also, I love that you mentioned the tips that your mother gave you regarding fragrances. Somehow that just bridges any generational gaps. And finally, your descriptions are so vivid that I thought I was actually smelling roses and gourmands. I enjoyed this tutorial.

Sandy Mason I try. I actually have a really weak sense of smell so if it appeals to me right away I’m in love.
It’s so hard describing scents to people who can’t smell them with you. I’m glad it’s working out haha

Myiesha I love your makeup and your signature hairstyle. You’re why I cocktail my fragrances now. I stuck to two scents only. First I mixed them. Then I started mixing the minis I always get in my Play by Sephora boxes. I was like 😲 Thanks Myiesha for always commenting and answering my questions 😘😘

Kimiko Buford Yes always keep those minis even if they’re not your fav at first. Two “ehh” scents sometimes make something incredible.

My favorite fragrance to layer with is Replica Jazz Club. Whenever I would get a sample of a sweet fragrance... which I don't tend to like, I started popping Jazz Club over them and it just darkens any fragrance and cuts down how cloying the other fragrance is. I also use it to bring some of my summer favorites into the colder months since it's smells so cozy.

I love this video & your makeup! You are my favorite Sephora Pro. I always layer my perfumes & like you I learned it from my mom. I usually use something with vanilla or fruity, but I think I most favor the more gourmand scents to layering. I almost always use Pink Sugar for layering, after my cream or oil, then my Perfume.

I use a thin layer of coconut, almond, or avocado oil to moisturize and lock in scents. Lay it down first then your fragrance. That is why years ago if you remember it was a hot trend to get the lotion and shower gel set. Learned it from Miss Aurora who used to work in the Macy's at the Fairfield Commons Mall in Beavercreek, Ohio. love that woman she taught me all I know about fragrances.

I love layering fragrances too, lotions, body sprays, and fragrance I love it all. If it smells yummy I want it, I love all fruity, vanilla, and sultry scents. I wish my Husband wore fragrance too, I have bought him some but he only really wears it when we are going out but better than nothing. This year I bought him the Tom Ford Ombre Homme because he got a sample and loved it so hopefully he will wear it more often and if not, I will wear it then ;) Bum Bum smells great under By the Fireplace. I just ordered one of the new Huda scents, can't wait to try it! Great video!!

I now look for fragrance notes, enjoy wearing fragrance at night and better at layering. I still struggle with some scents not lasting. I will start including an oil afterwards. Was waiting for this!!!! I have layered in the past but I've never tried that Bum Bum cream. I'm gonna have to look into that because I keep hearing about it. Right now my go to fragrance is the YSL Mon Paris. It's a fav. It took me a minute to go there. I like old school scents like Issey and Acqua Di Gio but now that I'm older I can't really handle a lot of scents so the YSL is very light and refreshing and not overpowering. I'm gonna have to try the synthetic one. I might like that one too. Saving this video for reference!!!! Thanks Myiesha!!!!! You're always on point!!!! 😍♥

That was very informative, Myiesha. Thank you. I had never given any thought to layering until I read an article by Jo Malone. She talked about walking into a room in seemingly one fragrance and leaving the room, imparting a different scent. Don’t know if that makes sense but I found it interesting.

  • @krisrowan

I love when others wear perfume that is not overwhelming. There is a lady at my office that has the correct touch she smells beautiful, but it doesn't attack you. Especially, since I and many others have asthma hopefully people would be mindful of lightness of hand to allow us to appreciate your fragrance with causing us harm.

    Two questions:
    1. I love Black Opium by YSL. So, about the whole layering situation, should I moisturise, apply the perfume and then apply the matching dry oil for body and hair and just let it sink into my skin or should I rub the oil? Or is that going to change the scent?
    2. I also love Eros by Versace. It has an eau de toilette version, as well as the parfum. In order to layer those, which one should I use first?

Interesting video, but I'm wondering why the speaker is layering on all this stuff at once, without waiting to see how each combination develops . . . ? Like what happens if the dry-down is hideous? How will she know which ingredients are clashing with which? How would she know which work well together? This looks like fun - in a way - but I don't think I'd actually do it.
