Lego Vacuum Pump

- Quick build and test of a Lego pump that sucks air. It can generate a 70% vacuum.
At the end I show another Lego way to create vacuum: Lego pneumatic pump pushing air out of a jar. This can generate a 63% vacuum. Water boiling test to prove the gauge was correct. Enjoy!

With a bunch of legos you can basically build anything you want, with vacuum pumps you can create an engine
wuz good smoke
You can even build a damn train
@@semranurhafize8044 I didn't even pass the damn mission yet
We need a fully functional man sized Lego tank now
but lego stuff is more expensive than the stuff you build with it
This actually helped me alot when it comes to engineering and physics knowledges tho, and Lego is actually the perfect material for some demonstration 👌

Most engineers start with Legos
@@bradprimeaux8443
True
I was introduced to robotics with LEGO Mindstorms EV3, and man, it's so fascinating.
Try putting two or three of those in series, I would like to see if the vacuum increases in strength
Cascading... That's actually a very good idea. Should work. I wonder to which % vacuum you could get with, say, three of these in series.
we call this staging in refrigeration vacuum pumps. single stage, two stage.
Your main issue here is that the seals won’t be adequate to hold a decent vacuum. Air will likely permeate in through the tubing and seals.
@@SkigBiggler Could still try tho
It will pull vacuum faster, but the ultimate vacuum achieved will be about the same.
With this and the gearbox you could make a super cool lego RC car
Зачем rc car gearbox?
Or upgrade the sub again

I really love the pneumatic lego elements! I remember building a working 2 cylinder pneumatic engine, powered by the pressure caused by bicarbonated water
I understood that
Pff. Should have used tricarbonated water for 50% more power!
Sad that just a couple Pistons could add up to $100
@@Camqu9 yeah when you can get a real brass steam engine miniature twin cylinder for less
A water powered engine? Oh no
I'm impressed it can pull even 50% vacuum. Very neat.
well vacuum is like 1 atm pressure but negative ... not so much force if you think about it

I'm excited to see what they might use lego to do next, I would've never thought Lego could do vaccum

@Kitan Mani we talkin' LEGO here we aren't your target demographic
It's a great day when you upload!
What the freaking heck Kitano mani making love????? Why say that in a lego video
Now I can use this video as proof that you can technically craft a vacuum pump with lego, therefore I can add that as a recipe in Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead!
Is there Lego in cdda? Or is it a mod?
Huh, what a weird coincidental meeting of my hobbies. Hello fellow CDDA player, hope you don't get gored by a moose!
More scientific papers should just have "this was not part of the experiment" whenever anything doesn't go according to plan
Thanks, I already saw a 20% length increase with this pump!
With the versatility of LEGO, and even having once owned a kit that taught me the basic principles of engineering and transferring motion, I'm still always surprised to see what this channel creates.

@@gigaslave Actually, that is not a bad idea, it's a great one. In the future, buildings on earth and in space could be made of modular parts that are cheaper to put together and move vs traditional standalone ones. :) Already the tech has been developed
Now to keep adding pistons to get a lower vacuum pressure! I wanna see how far can we go before diminishing returns
I think maybe the seals are a big limiting factor here
@@philcorrigan5641 put an entire vacuum pump with vacuum chamber into a larger vacuum chamber with a higher volume pump. When the outer chamber is pumped down to 0.3 bar absolute, the inner pump's seals will see 0.3 bar as the external pressure, so that pump has a chance of reaching a significantly lower pressure in its much smaller chamber.
@@hamjudo and then maybe put that whole set-up inside an even bigger vacuum chamber with an even bigger pump….

Man, keep this up, I subscribed for good videos and I'm getting the product as advertised!

Lego should release a heavy duty line of lego. That way if you decide to make that monstrosity it will hold because its made from solid titanium (heavy duty lego)
Titanium would be expensive as fuck, but stainless steel would be super neat
@@joldsaway3489 perfection comes at a price
Lagum Lemoni Titanium’s just super challenging to work with. Not at all mass-producible for lego.
That actually worked better than I thought it would. Good job

Amazing ❤️❤️❤️
Very cool indeed
Can I just point out that -20psi is an impressive vacuum.
My former manager told me that a -20psi vacuum is an aeronautical standard.
I believe him, although I haven’t found any evidence to support that just yet.
He previously worked in the aeronautical industry.
That is in inches mercury(in Hg) not PSI. considering they are at standard atmospheric pressure in their room which is only about 14.5 PSIA so a -20 PSID would make the inside of the jar -5.5PSIA which is not possible. But 20 in HG is about 9.8 PSI which is still impressive as it means the pressure in the jar is only about 4.7 PSIA.
Now if you pressurize a space to above atmospheric pressure you can then experience differential pressures where there is an apparent vacuum of 20 PSI, but not in the conditions of this video.
The lego being put together is satisfying
Nice!
