Another amazing reaction
The thing about Gravity falls is that the characters have four-five fingers depending on who they are. The creator said to imagine they all have 5 but some looked better with four. Grunkle Stan and Soos have 5. Dipper, Mabel, and Wendy have 4.
Right, came here to say this. Alex Hirsch said that it just depends on what looks best with the design -- characters with skinnier/smaller arms get 4 fingers, just because of the width of the arm. Most adult characters have 5 fingers -- unless they're really skinny, like Tyler Cutebiker (in the puma/panther scene).
Meh that's just an excuse to not draw as many fingers lol

I'M WHEEZING--
i love when they just have fun together like this
I half expected him to say, "That's on me I set the bar too low"
Naked gun awards ceremony vibes
Fun fact: The Multi-bear (voiced by Alfred Molina, by the way) was originally going to be called "Bear Bear," and it would give the opportunity to include the joke "There, there, Bear Bear."
That double face palm during the discussion was priceless. If.
That's a full sentence
If is a full sentence. Just ask the Spartans when Phillip II of Macedon tried to intimidate them.
If?
I laughed so fucking hard.

What's in the Pain Hole? I thought it was obvious. It's pain.
@Trashthlete Where do you think the Bene Gesserit got the idea?
@Trashthlete What about the Glory Hole
It's the physical manifestation of the word "pain"
He shall know true Pain
@@internetgoat4831 Glory of course
i think it's really interesting that the show kind of tackled toxic masculinity back in the early 2010s
(btw anyone unfamiliar with the term, it doesn't mean ALL masculinity is bad, it refers to the bad aspects that society promotes, like men not being able to share their feelings, or being expected to be overly macho)
Not only did it treat it way before most other shows started to, but it did so in a way better written AND more poignant way as well
@@rotciv557 mlp also did an episode about that.
"putting your hoof down" one of the mane characters, fluttershy is kind of a pushover and well, shy, so she attends an assertiveness seminar, held by a super masculin minotaur, who teaches her to stand up for herself... by being an even bigger bully. She also snaps a bears neck, (although not in the same episode and for different reasons, he kinda asked for it)
While originally the term may have been positive it has become an incredibly sexist term used by some of the worst most hateful parts of modern society to attack anything connected to being a man.
@@thishonestgrifter geniune question, can you give an example?
@@thishonestgrifter i don’t think it has, may just be your perception
congrats to Gravity falls for having multiple characters say "Pituataur" it fucking destroys me every time
I don't get it :'(

"What was in the Pain Hole!"
Reverend Mother: "Pain."
Someone needs tell them to play the opening backwards so they can solve the ciphers by themselves
People have.
I was hoping they might figure out that the first two letters are an abbreviation, take a random (and correct) guess for what abbreviation it is, then-in combination to their observation about the double letters-crack the cipher. Instead, we got the sentence, "If." But, I'm okay with that.
Tyler the cute biker is the guy at the beginning that Stan locks in the Shack. Tyler is usually around when the Lumberjack is beating something. He always cheers him on saying “ geeet’em, geeeet’um”
Aaron laughing at every dad-joke in the show is the cutest thing
Missed the best part, when Stan tells Dipper that doing the right thing was what makes him a man.
they talk about that in the discussion
Imagine drawing 24 frames per second. The amount of time you can save with animating 8 instead of 10 fingers ist actually a TON.
(Most TV animation is 12 fps but it would still save time yes)
Anime: Imma ignore that.
@@Shythalia well the poor animators be stressed af so I really don’t mind some less fingers
@@Shythalia Anime is cutting corners in a thousand other ways
The moment he says "Give it to me in a sentence" I was already holding laughter.
Then just "If."
What broke me was seeing three out of four doing the exact same facepalm/buried face laughter.
For some reason, Grunkle Stan saying "Pituitaur?" always gets a laugh out of me.
Being a patron for the first time to anything, I feel like I'm eating the forbidden fruit but it's okay because the fruit is delicious.
The only downside is when they say "you can watch the next 4 episodes on Patreon!" and for an excited moment you forget that this is already the last of the 4 episodes they're talking about.
@@normalmighty what episode are they on now?
@@dustoo probably next 4 episodes so that would be ep 10. Idk for sure tho
@@arealhuman2409 Yup today on patreon they just released episode 10 :) Just don't do what I did and join patreon on the 29th of the month, I got charged twice in 2 days in October xD
Ha Aaron is hung up on the same question I had years ago about the ancient lore concerning why cartoon people are only drawn with three fingers and a thumb.
Simpsons creator Matt Groening said it's because it's easier to draw
I think it’s mainly bc it’s just easier to draw and when animating or illustrating simple characters sometimes 4 fingers and a thumb looks cluttered or uncanny. It can also be hard to squeeze the four fingers into a tiny condensed space or make them fit onto a small hand. 3 just fits better sometimes lol. I’ve done some freelance character design work and this is my main reasoning for why I do it. If it’s a more realistically proportioned style then 4 fingers and a thumb will work better. This is why sometimes the kids may have 3 fingers and a thumb but the adults have the complete 5 :D
More proportional if the characters have the tiny wrists and bobble palms
@@sleepytoons2155 That's exactly what Alex Hirsch said when someone asked him. It's a design decision, but you should "imagine" that everyone has the normal 5 fingers. Which makes the six-fingered hand on the Journal covers unusual, and notable.
its an unusual inconsistency among the usual inconsistencies
Damn I haven’t seen this show since it came out and these reactions make me want to re-watch it
Same. I'm actually rewatching it right now
It's so worth a rewatch
im rewatching with them. :D
Oh you should, it hits different the second time! Definitely worth it.
I watch the series 100 times
Fun fact: they were originally going to call the multibear the "bear bear" so that Dipper could have a line saying "there there bear bear"
I wish they kept that! That would have been amazing! 🤣
I love that everyone had the same instinct to facepalm when Calvin said "if."
Hmm they focused on the intro page…. Interesting. I wonder if they’ll notice the hidden audio message.
I already put the cypher in the comments, but I don’t know what the filming schedule is.
@legoatoom they’re almost certainly not going to work it out at this point, especially if they don’t want to google it, and the cipher changes soon anyway
@@tcshack701 They don't read the comments anyway so that doesn't matter
@@carrela1000 how do u know
@@siaahale13 I've been watching them for years and they've mentioned it multiple times before
This is still my favorite Gravity Falls reactions to watch and rewatch. No other channel went so hard into looking into all the clues and deciphering codes. Alex Hirsch would be so proud.
Fun Fact: Alfred Molina who played Doctor Octopus , voiced the Multi-Bear in the episode.
Also reprises in the finale
Calvin: "I'm not going to fall on a mound of bullet ants 20 times in my life"
Says the guy who broke his ankle playing Blind Wave Squid Games 🤣
After you released your reaction to ep 1 I went and binged the whole show. Now every week I can't wait for the next reaction!
I started doing the same thing, I only have a few episodes left.
its a spectacular show fr
Them discuss and analyzing the intro makes me very hype for episode 19!!
yes omg this show will blow their minds for sure
Will Forte was the guy they locked in the shop at the beginning "Puma shirt?" "Panther shirt?"
They actually have book 3 to buy in real life. It's an exact replica of the book from the show.
And it's wall to wall spoilers for the entire show. ;-) So these guys should wait to get it until after they finish.
@@gryphonvert good call, I didn't think about that
This is why I love Blind Wave - they pick on stuff pretty quickly and it's so much fun watching them trying to figure it out while you've seen the whole show already xd As others have said before, pls listen to the intro backwards to get the cyphers!!!
This episode is basically Dipper meeting his namesake!
what
@@leocapn1069 Dipper = Big Dipper aka Ursa Major = Big Bear = Multi-Bear
I loved how this episode is centered on Dipper becoming manly while being trained by the Manotaurs to teach him the trials on being a man. At the same time, I also love the B subplot of the episode when Mabel along with Soos and Wendy tries to convince Grunkle Stan to date Lazy Susan. Plus, having Alfred Molina as Multi-head Bear that Dipper attempted to slay was a huge win for this episode and I'm impressed that the Alex Hirsch was able to get this actor.
It's also worth mentioning that this episode continues to introduce to the rest of the townsfolk from Gravity Falls that become recurring and semi-regular characters in the show's run such as Lazy Susan and the Police Officers, Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durland considering that "The Gobblwonker" introduced Old Man McGucket, "The Hand that Rocks the Mabel" introduced Lil'Gideon and his Father, and "The Inconveniencing" introduced Wendy's Friends.
18:53 - Finally, Fred Tatasciore's last name is pronounced as "Tata-Shore" not "Tata-Scoré"
I'm waiting for when Aaron finds out that the adults (or at least most adults) have 5 fingers on their hands. (4 fingers and a thumb)
I thought he would notice in this episode because he said he was going to pay attention to the fingers, and it showed the adult hands with five fingers quite clearly several times.
So that implies people in this universe grow an extra finger when they go through puberty?
@@sugaxshyxtype its just the artstyle. Alex Hirsch (creator of the show), has confirmed that everyone is supposed to have 5 fingers, except in the case of the journal and stuff.
14:35 The tribe Eric is refering to is Sateré-Mawé, they live in brazil ^^
God I love this show so much. It's one of the ones that gets better and better. It has so much fun randomness and it's great re-living it again.
Oh nice!! They're a biit closer to figuring out the ciphers. With some careful listening early on, they'll get the clue for the first batch, since the clue for the next one is here.
I hope they figure it out before season 2, since those are harder to crack but more plot relevant.
Man, I love seeing people experience this show for the first time.
I'm impressed and surprised that Alex Hirsch brought in Alfred Molina (Doc-Ock) to guest star as Multi-head Bear for this episode and in this series as a whole.
Literally, I'm impressed with the celebrities that had guest-starred or recurred during _Gravity Falls_ run from John Oliver, Larry King, Coolio Jennifer Coolidge, and Alfred Molina and they're is plenty more celebrities that will make appearances in the show, not revealing who but you find out for yourselves so stay tuned Blind Wave.
How did no one immediately point out that Stan, Sous, and probably most of the adults in this show are drawn with 5 fingers after that intro?
I look forward to these reactions every week lmao. They get me so hyped up.
An episode about healthy masculinity? Yes, please!
CYPHER HINT: at the very end of the intro the sound is reversed, play it back and it will tell you how to solve the first cypher (ep 1)
If you guys want to know how to decode the messages in Gravity Falls, I'll put the CIPHER here:
Whatever the message displays, just think three letter back. For example, "Ebiil" means "Hello".
Edit: I’ve just been informed that I fucked it up. Nevermind.
Actually, that would be "khoor" for "Hello". Otherwise, you're going three letters forward instead of back. Sorry to be "that girl". Lol
Glad to see you guys noticing hidden ciphers and stuff but if you want to begin solving them on your own,
MILD NUDGE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
start by playing the theme song backwards. It will tell you what cypher to use
please delete this comment, they want to figure it out on their own...
@@Saki_Yukawa it's just a clue. They didn't give away the code though.
@@souhiyori8032 lol that's not a clue, it's the whole answer
@@souhiyori8032 its THE clue. they are so invested in finding everything out themselves and there will be an episode hinting to that "clue". But once you have it, the rest isnt as fun to figure out..
@@Saki_Yukawa This is not a spoiler, I am nudging them in the right direction. Literally impossible to figure it out on your own without doing this
I know aaron is always confused and goes through life constantly unaware of what is happening, but it was really showing this episode and it's only going to get worse from here 🤣😂
I got my brother and our housemate into watching this show as it was airing. We constantly quoted "the smell of JERKY summoned me! JERKY!" and "I smell... emotional issues."
The most common cypher used to de code gravity falls is called the Caesar Cipher hope this helps In the intro there is a backwards whisper that says “3 letters back” I think it means in the cyphers for example f would be c ?
you got it
why would you tell them that...
If.
So.
Up.
Ok.
maybe.
Rob needs to tell them about the cipher that's used for decoding.
Somebody really needs to tell them to listen to the whisper at the end of the intro. 😆
Awesome reaction though. It's fun to see y'all trying to solve these ciphers.
The Pain Hole is watching The Room on repeat....without getting drunk
13:28 really didn't know what he was expecting lol
I already love this show but this reaction makes me appreciate it a little more you guys seem to be having so much fun its lovely I am so happy with this reaction series 😊
“If” is a new all-time Blind Wave highlight
YAY! I'm a couple episodes ahead of them and I'm so excited for us to watch the series together. I just cracked the codes for the episodes I've seen today! I hope the guys get it soon too!
I love watching these reactions, it reminds me of when I was a kid, when I was watching gravity falls ongoing and trying to figure out and decipher everying, cant wait to see you guys react to the last episode
Somebody please inform their editors/planners to somehow prepare the shorts for them. The gravity falls shorts have some hilarious moments but also touch on that tattoo. Also it would not hurt to tell them how to get the cipher for each episode, so they can translate them. (Play the end of the intro backwards, slowed a bit; episodes have different keys)
Stan: ...and let's not forget last Tuesday's incident. (Flashes back to Dipper in the bathroom wearing a towel and singing at the mirror with a comb as the microphone).
Dipper: (SINGING) ♫ Disco girl, coming through, that girl is you ♫ (His song was cut when Stan walks into the bathroom). DON'T COME IN, DON'T COME IN!!! (Cuts back to the present day world).
Mabel: You were listening to girly Icelandic pop sensation BABBA?
Dipper: No. (CHUCKLES) I wasn't, it's not important!
Persians: If you fight us, we will take your lands, scourge your children, plunder your women. If we win, you will not survive.
King Leonidas: If.
Man, they really look closely at clues in the discussion this episode. This is definitely one where you want to stick to the end (or at least skip over a good portion of the discussion).
Is nobody gonna talk about how the guys just got their first glimpse into Bill Cipher, one of the most fucked up, genuinely evil villains in kids cartoons ever?
If you guys like this show, you’ll like Adventure Time as well. A lot of good lore and world building for a “kids show”. I’m 23 and it’s still one of my favorite shows geared for kids. Lots of adult ish humor and it has its really dark serious moments. Ok I’ll stop now.
my only criticism is the final episodes tbh it felt rushed and they focused too much on a civil war rather than with golb who only had a bit of screentime. Wished they did focus a bit on finn and jake at the end as well because they did start the whole show and were the frontrunners/protagonists for most episodes.
@@akindumarasinghe131 well they kind of give you closure with the distant lands show so it makes up for it IMO
@@AnusSniffer69 Forgot that show existed don't have hbo max unfortunately. Going back to what I said though I wholeheartedly agree that adventure time was a great show it's only minor stuff that I thought could have been done differently.
Fun fact for you: The creator of Adventure Time, Pendleton Ward, was actually highschool friends with Alex Hirsch.
I really hope the guys solve the codes soon, and if they can't, they can reach out for a hint or two.
In Gravity Falls, all kids have 4 total fingers and adults have 5 total fingers, except for the journal which has 6.
24:39… “could just be some bullshit.”

Eric! I think you may have seen Hamish and Andy do the bullet ant glove. They are probably the most famous radio hosts in Australia and they did it on a TV show in around 2010, the youtube clip of that segment is extremely viral. Hamish lost the bet and had to do it and ended up going to the hospital because of it, he was in excruciating pain for around 8 hours.

At the very end of the intro, you can hear whispering. That's the show telling you what cipher to use to solve the mysterious messages at the end. Listen to the end of the intro and play the whispering backwards and you'll know what to do.
