So the hospital itself has been a place of healing for 500 years but what's interesting is that Tiber Island also held the Temple of Asclepius in Ancient Rome. Asclepius was the god of medicine and healing; therefore, you could say that the island itself has been a place of healing for over 2,300 years. :)

I love Nonna Betta's..every time I go to Rome, I make sure I come here for the "Lamb with salted Roast poratoes" best lamb that melts in the mouth, Ive ever had!! I will return in 2020! I always see something different each time I go, I never get bored of Rome..too many hidden Gems still to explore!
Taking the two teenagers to Rome this July and your videos might actually get them to learn a little before we go. Your videos are making me gain weight just watching them. Keep them coming!
I was there last week with a tour. Considering that you said much of it was closed on Saturdays, owing to Jewish observance, imagine my surprise when our main pasta dish had bits of pork in it! While I didn't care, I could only conclude that at least this restaurant's owners are not too "observant."
So cool, I will be staying in the Jewish Quarter during my first ever visit to the eternal city next month. I found this amazing property from 1578 called Palazzo Costaguti at Piazza Mattei, I do sincerely look forward to the entire trip. I might even be tempted to go on a tour with you guys, as I have never been on one before, though I travel to Europe almost every three to four weeks. Thanks for this episode dude, and keep up the great work.
It wasn't in the Jewish ghetto, the Costaguti family is obviously Italian. And the ghetto doesn't even exist anymone, it was a few streets that were entirely demolished in the late 1800s.
I just got back from my first visit to Rome, I wish I had seen your excellent videos before! Reconsider the music and "vocal captions" in italian, though... :)
Really love and appreciate the videos! Small typo: Pompey, not Pompeii. I know you guys know the difference, but mention it for anyone else who might be interested. Caesar was assassinated at a meeting of the senate, yes, but the senate wasn't meeting at the Curia (the regular senate house in the Forum), as it was being repaired. Instead, the senate was meeting in a temple on the grounds of the theater of Pompey (the general Caesar defeated), not Pompeii (the city buried by the eruption of Vesuvius).
thats because 30% of sicily was jewish prior to the expulsion of all jews by casa aragon in 1502. same food, same people. i hope one day more sicilians recognise their jewish roots. i am one of them
This video was Awesome! My Dad did the DNA Ancestry and he found out that he's 49% Italian. I was always told that I was half Safardic and half Ashkinasic. My Dad's Dad was born in Istanbul Turkey and his wife was born in Barcelona Spain. I'm trying to connect the dots. Imagine finding this out in your 80's like my Dad did? I'm 60 years old and I now know that I have Roots in Italy.
Rome’s community is not about Saphardic and Ashkenazic, because it’s earlier than diaspora. Has come before the split, I think it’s the only one. For any mistake I’m sorry, I’m Italian but not Jewish
There's at least one Jewish religious goods store in the Ghetto. I bought an Italian siddur (prayer book) there. I'm sure you could find a mezuzah there too.
totally a grand area to visit, drenched in magnificent Roman ruins, but also jewish shops and restaurants. the prices were astronomic, though. there was no way i would spend that kinda money on food. so i walked a few blocs out, and got myself two slices (of outstanding pizza) for a euro each!
"With the exception of brief periods under Napoleon from 1808 to 1815 and under the Roman Republics of 1798-99 and 1849, the ghetto of Rome was controlled by the papacy until the capture of Rome in 1870." the new Italian state abolished such entities, hence the Jewish community building a great temple shortly afterward
Ciao Maria! There are hundreds of amazing neighborhoods of Rome that deserve a video! It will take us a lifetime, but we're slowly getting there. So far we've covered Trastevere, Jewish Ghetto, Monti, Prati, Campo de Fiori and some other parts. Hope you enjoy the videos :)
@@TheTourGuyVids prati? I didn't find a video about it, can you send me a link? I'm going for a week in Rome and looking for the interesting neighborhoods where I can get an Italian cultural
This place is filled with magnificent history and holy artifacts. I had to stop watching the video because of the tasteless, irritating and inappropriate music. Please consider changing it. Thank you.
I’ve viewed several “The Roman Guy” videos. They are rather poorly produced. Oftentimes, the music is annoying and in some cases as loud as the commentary.

The pizza slices at Pizza Florida were so good, but now I wish I'd tried the fried artichokes. Seems like a solid excuse to go back to Rome.

Thank you for the video, I am planning to go on November, definitely I will be visiting this neighborhood, any tip?any other suggestion?
Hi, could you please let me know what is the name of the building you cross at 1:18 please?
Great video guys! 😄🙌🏼 Super informative and entertaining
Congratulation for this video. Love the way you explain things!
Excellent. I cannot wait to go back to Roma.
You should get an audio recorder with a lavalier mic which you can wear on you. You need great audio to match your great videos!
Great informative video! Will go in September, Any tip where to stay here in Rome? Something unique, clean, central and not too pricey? Thanks
Word ghetto derives from Italian and Venetian getto, pronounced Jetto , to pour
we have the same artichokes in Sicily Trapani/Palermo area. Fried...
