To people that are confused. He isn’t missing any of his brain. The ventricles in the middle are just swollen with a lot more water than a normal person has. Which caused the outer portion of his brain to be smushed. His whole brain is still intact though, which allows him to survive pretty normally.
Would that explain his egg shaped head? A serious question, not poking fun in the least.

Facts
My severely disabled brother Matt had Hydrocephalus, Cerebral Palsy, and Holoprosencephaly. He was a spastic quadriplegic, and was only born with 2 cm of his brain stem, the rest of his head was filled with cerebral spinal fluid. Doctors put 2 shunts, one on each side of his head. It pumped his head to a more natural size over time.
When he was first born. his head weighed more than his body. Doctors thought he was both blind & deaf, and said he'd not live to be a year old.
As a toddler, I discovered he wasn't blind or deaf. I was putting away a load of stuffed animals I had been playing with in the living room and Matty started absolutely cracking up. Because I would pick one up and run to my room, repeat. The motion of me running back and forth just tickled his funny bone.
Matt had over 20 operations in his lifetime, including 2 full body casts.
Doctors tried to hide CT scan results from my mom when he was a kid/ young teen. Mom grabbed the envelope of them when they were out of the room, and discovered that one of his shunts had broken off in his head and had grown into his brain tissue. If he were to hit his head somehow the wrong way, he could die instantly.
Matt had to eat mostly via feeding tube because as he grew, his neurological system changed, and when he swallowed it started going into his lungs. My mom had to insert a tube into his nose directly to his stomach, eventually they finally put a G-tube which was on his tummy and went directly into his stomach.
Matt was so awesome. He ADORED ME, and crushed over my female friends, and he would puff up and act tough around guys, even adopt a deeper tone to his voice.
He couldn't speak normally, but on occasion he would say words randomly and surprise everyone.
Matty passed away unexpectedly on Jan.31,2007. It was the most difficult thing I've ever been through, and I miss him everyday.
He's finally free of his bodily prison and I hope he is able to enjoy his afterlife able to do all he couldn't in his lifetime.
I'm grateful for the time I had with him, I believe he made me a better person just by knowing him.
He was very lucky to have you as his brother! 😊

For anyone wondering the condition is called hydrocephalus and is caused by cerebral spinal fluid not draining properly due to having an excessive amount of it. This condition usually requires a shunt, in some cases they drill holes in your skull to help alleviate the fluid buildup. The fluid is routed through a tube placed in your head going all the way down to your stomach.
This condition can cause seizures, brain damage, death, mental impairments, vision issues,etc. I don't believe this condition makes anyone stupid. your disabilities do not define you, and you do not let them.
I have suffered with this condition myself and always have hope that one day it'll be treated and I can be free.

I remember seeing this somewhere. Apparently he HAS a brain, but it's been slowly squeezed small by the fluids that it's roughly 1/3 of its actual size. But since the shrinkage happened gradually, his brain was able to adapt to the changes and kept his mental faculties normal despite being smaller.

No. Not normal at all. He suffers from some medium deficits but he slogs through them because he had to adapt as well.

My youngest son, 16yo, has had a shunt since he was 2 weeks old. He actually is on his way back from MUSC where he had his yearly ct scan. He also had 3/4 of his frontal lobe removed to stop seizures 4 years ago. He had bad short and long term memory loss before the part of his brain was removed. After the surgery he remembered everything he didn’t before. I suggest MUSC medical in Charleston SC. for anyone with children that have seizures. The neurologist in Greenville just wanted to keep upping his meds for seizures. MUSC wanted to find the spot that caused them.
This is proof that you don't need to be smart to live a decent life, nor have a normal brain.

I saw such a CT scan on a patient. She had a slight shunt dysfunction and had a bit headache, her CT scan was even more extreme than this one, but she was a former bank employee. The brain is extremely interesting, while people have a normal live with such an extreme hydrocephalus, other patients suffer from brain tumors smaller than 1 cm.
For what it's worth, essentially all of the images shown in this video are MRIs.
But yes, obviously you can see hydrocephalus on CT, and it can be quite profound in shunt dysfunction.
Isn't it because people have hydrocephalus since they're children and their brain is more flexible while brain tumors usually appear in older patients?

Me personally I have hydrocephalus and hearing that he lives a good life is just heartwarming :)
I lost at least 50 percent of my brain mass to a severe injury. Mostly the higher-functions cerebral cortex. I'm not as severe as this man (I hope). I manage to pass for normal and I still have the same total IQ as before the injury. I push my brain harder than is comfortable and I'm still recovering significantly after 25 years. You can build your brain abilities, if you already had them, with pushing yourself. The more you learn and experience new things, the more your neurons connect to each other and build up systems. That gives you "spare" networks for when you lose some. Good luck and work hard!

It's misleading, you can't see the brain because there is fluid pressing on the surface which shows as black in the scan, the brain is still there however.
Watch some chubby emu videos to see how sometimes the human body is either immortal or just looking for the first excuse it can find to shut off
There are plenty of other stories where human beings are walking around with only 10% brain matter and yet they do better than this man. They're IQs are either normal or slightly above normal. We really don't know that much about the human body especially the brain and of course we know almost nothing about how spirit interacts with the brain That's a whole other issue

My sister had this same thing happen to her. My sister had even bigger ventricles and we still have the scans. The reason why my sister had it happen was because the doctors were ignoring us when we were asking for help, and it turns out the shunt malfunctioned. We were able to settle for a couple million of dollars, but my sister can't do anything at all. Can't talk, eat, communicate in any way, etc. Seeing someone else having the same thing makes me kinda sad her fate wasn't different. Maybe this happened over time. For my sister, it happened over a couple of hours.
