Another Coin Spill and Huge Surprise

  • This was my latest hunt in a completely unknown forest. My hunting area was limited because of trails and people with dogs. I had to stay ("invisible") in a small space between and could not move as I usually would. The hunt started as one would expect it in the "entry zone" with a "10 Rentenpfennig" coin from 1924. As soon as I found my first U.S. coin, I knew there could be more... A coin spill is always amazing. I love it and thankfully it happens quite often.
    I have no idea how the coins made it from the USA into this forest. I could imagine some sort of military exercise during the 80s (a long walk + camp).
    Now let's talk about the surprise. I was probably more surprised than you. It could be anything. It is very often a big chunk of lead with a weird shape. I was shocked the second I saw it. It struck me like thunder. It must be a Roman spearhead. I'm glad that I found the ring before. It helped me to focus at this tiny spot.
    Unfortunately I could not enjoy this beautiful moment very long, because I was very upset about the quality of the signal. I expected a piece of scrambled wire at first, but "thankfully" I could remember a similar bad signal from the past (with a "deep" bronze object as a result).
    I was running the Deus at 12kHz, 97 sensitivity, 3 reactivity, G.B at -10, disc at 0 ("disc" tone break at 5). What a bad signal for a solid and relatively big target like this. It was very difficult to recover the target (because of the soil and many stones), but it was not deep. I'm highly disappointed. Something a little bit smaller would probably not be detectable.
    P.S. I'm running reactivity "3", because (in my opinion) "2" has problems finding small, shallow targets with the 1st (and most important) coil sweep. I showed this problem in the following video: • XP DEUS - Real World R...
    Because it is impossible to hunt every area twice with different reactivity settings, I will be forced to find a solution in the future... Finding small, shallow targets is great, but missing objects like this (at normal depth) is simply unacceptable.
    P.s. I hope you liked my macro solution with a second action cam. I will try to do more experiments in the future.

    Wow, what a find at the end there! I dream of finding something that old and awesome. I enjoy your videos and even bought the GC-1023 as a backup detector because of your videos. I found about ten coins at the playground with it today in no time at all. Thanks again and keep them coming!

    What a great video again! your videos are exceptionally good because they are for CONTINUOUS LIVE DIG . This makes it so much better, informative and interesting. The Mobius Action Cam is Superb. Well done on the recovery of both the ring and the spearhead. What a good start of 2016 for you!

      +Ben Chebil - Thank you so much. I'm glad you like this format (because many people are probably expecting another "targets on top of a plug" channel). I try to show everything, because I believe that it's a very important part of "metal detecting", even when it's only for a small group of people. Have a great day.

    Good video, fantastic finds, liked the spear head.. your first find was I think a shotgun cartridge, but it's what's called a pin fire cartridge, early 1800's. All the best GL&HH.

    Yes ,it was a big surprise and super target .and now your thinking should i dig more of those signals. was it iron or brons ? Again great video !

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  8 років тому +1

      +benwiwi67 - Thank you. It is bronze (in my opinion) and that's what worries me. A little bit deeper, or at slightly different angle and I would have never found it. Smaller targets would probably go unnoticed. An object that size should sound loud and clear at 7" of depth, using the 11" coil. It wasn't the first time... I have some other footage with (bigger) targets that sounded similar. To say I'm disappointed, would be an understatement...

    Wenn man mit den Disc in den minus geht können gute Funde die tief kommen wie in deinen Fall die Speerspitze in den Eisenton kippen!
    Bei kleinen Silbermünzen genauso.
    Ab - 1.6 geht es schon los.

    Wow looks like a great spot for hunting. Great video, love the Mobius footage it works very well indeed. Hmm, when i first seen that ring i thought it might be a Nazi SS skull ring!?, and all i can say about the Roman spear head is WOOHOO! amazing find . 2016 has started well for you brother and i hope it continues like this for you :-). Well done on another good hunt and outstanding video production. :-)

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  8 років тому

      +\_ Venator - Thank you very much. I thought about SS and to be honest hoped to find a medal. That's the reason why I searched this small spot around the ring very careful. Without the ring I could have passed the next two targets walking straight to another spot. It's the same thing with coin spills. I will quote one of my favorite UA-camr: "Where there is one, there could be more." ("Swiper Detecting").

    AMAZING FIND! a roman spear head...wow! it looked like the object was vertical? so take your 7 inch and add 4 inch on...lol as the tip would have been down 11 inch or so...lol..id set the GB to tracking, as it will auto adjust to the terrain.... ive had coins 10 inch plus using the same settings....you should try this...:)
    GL&HH

      +TOMMY TURBO TREASURES - Hi, unfortunately the spearhead was lying horizontal. Otherwise I would be pleased with the result. Coins at 10" plus? I could only detect a beer can at this depth. I'm using negative G.B. to add some depth and still the results are very disappointing. I guess it is my coil... When I don't use any trickery to get this thing stable, this happens: ua-cam.com/video/aJf7OiHEdWs/v-deo.html
      Cheers.

      thats easy to sort that, its sounding off because you have the sensitivity to high, and your silencer isn't turned up enough... try altering the silencer as this will stop the falsifying signals.... when altering it, just shake the coil in the house and alter to suit...
      GB... ground balancing the machine, when users set it high 90+ in a mineralised terrain/area the machine will run bad! you can tell when the ground is bad/mineralised as there is A bar that has little black blocks that build when the ground is bad/mineralised.. this bar is found at the far right hand side of the screen.... so when you see the little blocks building you know the ground is bad...
      i recommend using the "tracking" setting in ground balance...this enables the machine to adjust its self as you go, this will allow the machine to run at its fun potential at all times... and adjust its self when it needs to...the machine will be monitoring the ground as you go and you will see the two vertical numbers change as you go...this is the machine adjusting its self to suit the ground conditions...
      also this will alter your sensitivity to suit the ground and the deus will know better than you what is the best level to run at when its set in tracking... constantly adjusting its self as you go to give you the best results....ive founds lots of coins at the 10inch mark when i set the machine like this..
      people say manual is the best, but i say its not as the user will have to alter machine all the time to get it right, and when its to high in manual ground balance and you hit a bad area of ground/mineralised, the machine will be running really bad and will be sounding off all the time...
      give this a go my friend:)
      GL&HH

      also make sure you coil is clean and remove the cover to clean it regular....:)

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  8 років тому

      +TOMMY TURBO TREASURES - Thank you for the advice. I tried everything in the past. My test results were much better with (manual and) negative G.B... If it's too low, my "special 100HZ trick" (I'm showing in this video: ua-cam.com/video/neTLBL4ZgH0/v-deo.html) does the job and redirects the ground noise to the lowest (100HZ) tone. If the ground is mineralised, I hear it straight away with this setting and don't have to worry about it.
      When I set everything "normal", the coil is behaving very odd (ua-cam.com/video/aJf7OiHEdWs/v-deo.html - with or without G.B. Tracking mode). I think, the coil is simply "not as good" as the other ones, or it has some technical issues. I wish I could do something, but unfortunately I can't.
      The cover is/was clean, even better, its gone now - I lost it (it came off many times, but the last time I couldn't find it anymore).
      Nave a great day. Happy Hunting.

    beautiful find!!!! from what i know only full tones 0 disc and gold field are real 0 disc/all metal in rest 0 disc is no real all metal..the gate for iron is nor fully open.the spear head was with the tip downwards?

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  8 років тому

      +Curiosity adv - Thank you. I'm actually using Disc, but not over the "normal" Disc mode. My first tone break is set to 0 and 100HZ (it deactivates the "normal" Disc), second tone break is set to "5" and 200HZ, the rest has 644HZ). So everything below "5" should sound like iron. The spearhead is probably made of bronze. It should be loud and clear (it has 83 ID "in the air"). It was also lying flat, which is the ideal position.

      +MetalDetecting24 bronze?! super find! i used this program and i think is over processing. my biggest problem with this program was signaling nonferrous as ferrous.ive made comparison in the field with At pro and to be honest AT won most of the time..i thnik deus cant handle hardcore settings like negative GB, high sensitivity,high audio response,silencer off all at once .. for clean areas like your,i use pitch 0 disc/reactivity2/silencer-1 i rely on meter for shallow iron if i have doubts i check with another program

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  8 років тому +1

      +Curiosity adv - Thanks for the answer (and the test). I think, you could be right. It probably is Reactivity "3" together with my G.B. trick (the audio response ("4") is not high). It works pretty well with shallow targets. I could live with a partial addition of the iron tone, but not with a "broken" signal and gaps between. I'm also not sure about the Reactivity "2" setting, as I believe that it doesn't respond to some small (shallow) targets. But on the other hand, it seems to be "cleaner" at the "last part of the signal" (and larger objects).
      I made a test too and uploaded a short (unlisted) clip. It shows my 11" Deus coil with "normal" settings like proper G.B., without any 100HZ tricks on the last 99 tone. You can take a look at the result: ua-cam.com/video/aJf7OiHEdWs/v-deo.html
      I'm running 96 sens at the beginning, 93 sens later. Reactivity "2", proper G.B. first, -2 later.
      As you can probably hear, the coil is very "sensitive" (it is much more annoying when you hear it "live"). It is reacting to branches and the surface, responding with a false tone. It would be for me impossible to hunt like this (or let's say diplomatic: "I could not enjoy it...") As soon as I'm using my program, the problems are at least hidden. I think, something is wrong with this coil.
      P.S. My already "repaired" coil screw broke during the test in case you wonder, why the coil is loose.

      +MetalDetecting24 thanks for response,i also have this problems in mineralized soils and im afraid to use ground notch :)) in that case i rise the gb few points till it get acceptable to concussions (which is worse than using ground notch i belive)
      that type of discrimination is based on "numbers" and we know that we cant rely only on deus numbers..for example in normal disc you can have a good target with good audio sound but numbers show iron... in "numbers" disc you cant have this situation..is reported as iron and you go further.
      my latest settings for not trashy areas are:react.2 ,silencer -1, disc5,pitch,audio resp 5/6,tracking,17-11 khz sorry for my english
      HH

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  8 років тому +1

      +Curiosity adv - Thank you for the comment. Interesting setting. I tried pitch audio in the past, but... I like 2-Tones the most because of greater amount of audio information. Unfortunately I can't use React. 2 (or let's say, I don't like to use it), because (at least for me) it looses all the precision that React. 3 offers.
      It is slow, "laggy" and it doesn't allow me to predict the size, or the depth of the object (it looses all the intelligence). With R.3 I can predict the size and the exact dept of most of the targets right away. R. 2 has also a "problem" with small targets: ua-cam.com/video/dwUQarymvUw/v-deo.html
      I wish the Deus (or my particular unit) had 10cm more depth with R.3.
