Fantastic Metal Detecting Outing With A Nice Coin I Wish I Hadn’t Found!

- Join me on a trip through a fantastic looking forest, with interesting relics, other surprises, plenty of “live digs” and some nice metal detecting action. All this on a beautiful, sunny day :).
It started with strange objects in a tree, someone wrapped in plastic and left. I have no idea what it was as I had no intention to look inside.
The beginning was difficult. I guess the main reason for that was the highly modified forest area with a partially thick layer of humus. It was a question of luck to swing the coil over the right spot.
As soon as I stumbled upon a small patch where humus wasn’t an issue, older finds started to appear. I was lucky to find a 1600-1700’s shoe buckle and other artefacts, that would be otherwise out of reach.
I also found a small coin spill. Unfortunately all the coins were made of zinc and therefore beyond “repair”. I also found a geocache, again... Why can’t it be real treasure hidden inside of a tree? Never mind…
At the very end I found a signal, but had to dig slightly around it doe to spider nest under a rock. What happened next was sad. A silver coin came out of the ground, broken. It was very fragile, the slightest touch could damage it. I think, I was as careful as I could under difficult circumstances with plenty of rocks and roots. But there is always the question, should I’ve done something different? Well, that was a sad ending of a otherwise great outing. I wished I hadn’t found this coin at all.
I hope you had fun!
Thanks for watching.
UPDATE: I came back to the location, check out the entire relic hunt: • I’m CURSED! When Metal...

I feel bad because you feel bad….but there is no way you broke that coin. Those were not fresh breaks, and the pieces would have been closer. Great find.
I always think American G.I.s are lucky to be stationed in Germany. It is a beautiful place.
