I've done a similar recipe, instead of the custard I added one can of sweetened condensed milk and butter, then popped that into the oven until crispy. Then topped with pistachios and some toasted sweetened coconut flakes. It was a family favorite!
Hi. Is that condensed milk mixed with melted butter or you pour those two separately?
How much butter? Was it mixed with the condensed milk or on top?
For those of us who live in Southeast Asia and have difficulties finding phyllo sheets (that struggle can be real 😖), you can use ‘popiah skin’ instead. It is also made of wheat flour and can be readily found in supermarkets in our parts of the world. Of course, get Phyllo pastry if you can but ‘popiah skin’ is a good alternative. I have tried it with success. Just a suggestion. ✌🏼🥰

It looks waaaaay better than it tastes. Even i felt like you weren’t impressed or satisfied. I tried your way by adding more custard and it was a lot i had to pour some out and very sweet. Over all this recipe not a win! But i love all of your other recipes.

I tried a similar recipe that called for condensed milk and heavy cream. It was ok but I felt like it was missing something. It was a dish I’d never tried before so I wasn’t sure but I can’t wait to try this recipe!

@@TasuMoni probably not. It'll probably get soggy when defrosting. Stick it in the fridge instead
I'm making this recipe now from another UA-cam video, with walnuts and cinnamon. This one looks delicious though, it popped up in my feed. I love the idea of pistachio and rose petals, that will be for my next batch if this one turns out good! Very nice video
If we want to mature and store this ahead of time, would you recommend we do all the steps and then add the syrup right before serving?
Hmm its a bit difficult for this dessert to be made ahead of time. You want to add the syrup right when it comes out of the oven hot otherwise it will be soggy instead of crispy. The best way I can think of saving some steps is prepping the syrup and custard ahead of time so all you had to do is bake :)
How to you store them? And do you eat the left overs cold or reheat?

This is an Egyptian dessert, it's original name is 'Mesh Um Ali'
So I tried the original version and the one with a little bit more custard like she recommends in this video. The original is much better. More custard made it less crunchy and more soggy from the bottom and had way too much sugar. The original one was amazing!

Just get fresh roses
Sepeate each petal leave in a tray. Put in a kitchen shelf for few day s I t will dry and once done cut and sprinkle on food

What did you sprinkle on the top?
Pistachios and rose petals. You can omit the rose petals as they can spoil your palette, but any unsalted nuts will work just as well.

You can find it at arab or middle eastern grocery stores! They also sell it in supermarkets now

This look and sounded really good but, the instructions are off. Way too much sugar, should not use all the syrup, top was soft not crunchy, custard made bottom soggy. Very disappointed.
