How many laps will Ben’s £40 brake pads last? MG ZS180, Clio RS 172 and 306 GTi6 at Donington Park

    We head to a track day at Donington Park for Round 4 of the 2021 200bhp Club World Championship. Alex gets a bit too enthusiatic in his Clio RS 172 with using all the track and the windscreen of Matt's 306 GTi6 pays the price. The pads in Ben's MG ZS180 don't make it through the whole day so he swaps them out for some budget Blueprint pads to see him until the end... oh how we didn't expect them to be quite so dramatic!

    Hahaha love it! 🤣
    When I was younger and the Nova SR and GTE ruled the roost I used to put on expensive discs with cheap pads because they worked immediately even after long stretches of no breaking.
    The back lanes in our area were used like the track (late at night). If you went in a ditch/field your mates were the first to help after laughing at you for 5 minutes.

    It's a parallel universe in my head when a rover is keeping a Clio a 306 at bay ,and seemed the most stable car in the corners.
    It's nice to see the Marshall's concerned for your safety and asking if you know why your pedal might be a bit long. 👍

      Their Suspension is related to the integra type R plus the MGs were tuned by prodrive. They’re great cars to drive just get underrated because they’re “just rovers”

    • @lexburen5932
      @lexburen5932 2 роки тому

      these MG rovers are based on honda platforms and honda engines, all basics for a good FWD track toy are there. To bad they are so under rated, while the peugeot 306 Gti6 is way to over rated in my view

    I have one advice to the Peugeot guy.Try to lower the rear by the torsion bar with one-two toothes or move some weight to the back. The car will became more stable on mid and entryconer and due trailbraking. Тhis is with just zero investment. I also have Peugeot.

    I've had very good luck with Dynamic Friction Active Performace pads you can buy off rockauto for less than $100 for a full set. Really good pads incase you need to take your daily driver onto the track when the racecar breaks, or just a cheap backup pad to finish the day. People think im crazy when I say I prefer the modulation of these over full track pads like st43 and dtc60. Obviously they wear fast but only should still last 3-4 days on a 3000lb car.

    Have a 2003 Renaultsport Clio 172. Supercharged low boost 275hp, so I know how lovely these little cars can be when they have the right parts fitted. Have you thought about shoving a meg engine in the 172? Or could use a hybrid of 172 engine and Meg engine if you wanted to keep it on the cheaper side of things….
