Hey Shred, where do you learn Music Theory? Did you go to University for years? Do you still go?
@@jaidynheadford4092 I studied composition at school 600 years ago but now I study the internet
@@ShredmasterScott 600 years? Well you're set for Music Life.
Most underrated channel ever
Yep
Real
Shred - you so remind me of someone that owes me a lot of money.
But I can't hold that against you - I love your videos.
from Vegas
This video has made me realize I know very little and would like to know very much.
Been working on alot of diminished licks & sweeps these past few months, now that I can play alot of that stuff clean I'll definitely use this video to put it all to good use. This video came out at a perfect time for me, thank you for what you do man 🤙🏻
enjoy brother
What does B(V) mean?
ANKIT AMAR KASHYAP Roman numeral for the chord it is in the respective chord progression
@@mattfromthebandthornbush thanks man. 🙏🙏🙏
Only Mr. Shred can manipulate the camera focus with his mere hands in the air
Women can both increase and decrease tension. 😂😂
So far. Probably the best real teaching and meaningful examples... Please expand on the notes emphasized on the pulse and insight on the repeated phrases that move around to different areas.... your already a likable guy, you don't need any beer, pizza, or fillers.... Just focus on your passion.... Study, teach, share... Keep forward brother.
wake up in the morning looking new notification on youtube.
Me : h ha Ha HA HA
Great Video shred thanks sharing knowledge
🤘
@@ShredmasterScott you need a women
After four years of music classes in high school, you and your videos are the only lessons that seem to stick with me.Thank you so, so much!
Rock on🤘🏼
You are an inspiration sir, I salute you.
But usually the Neapolitan chord will be in first inversion.
Another good chords to use are the agumented 6th chords
That's correct. I've covered the augmented 6th chords in a recent video but I love those
This shred master KNOWS his music THEORY. Impressive!~!! Well done , sir.
secondary dominants is easily top 10 shred riffs of all time and just heard it. good stuff
Wow, what a great sound and playing! ❤️
I like that violin headstock print hanging on the wall. It's cool.
Dude. You're really a good musician. Most probably you won't even read this comment but I'm leaving it just in case, so you know that.
This is a great video i should study this stuff on the keyboard first havent really played in over sixteen years and need to go back at a different angle never did neo classical stuff before just like improvising mainly
Funny thing: I researched a lot Yngwie-stuff lately to extract exercises from his songs. The quote was from him, right ("more is more"). And today your video got recommended for me. Good overview - thanx.
Another killer lesson Shred! Looks like you cleaned that damn fretboard too! Looking good SunnyJim! I love your compositions. Awesome
Keep up the theory vids, Shred. Theyre really helpful. U da man.
Thank you for this vid, whitch is really helpful
That was so much fun! Great video, thanks for that!
Awesome lesson shred thank you
Nice one, definitely taking notes on this one!
Amazing video, could you give us the theoretical background too please?
I wish I could understand this :( Theres so many quetsions I have, kinda wish some videos went more into depth about how they found that chord, some chords from this video I can't find that specific one anywhere. Good video none the less.
WOAH sitting here with the acoustic exploring that alien Neapolitan idea, so I wanted to cheat and do B minor and drone the G and high E and just fret the D string up at the octave. SO, start on D (IV-7 ish), down to C#(dim), to C(the Nea) and B (IV) = Genesis riff, yay!!!!!(arpeggio finger-pick )
boom
Awesome video Shred, keep it up!
3:34 is epic. Sounds like bach's chachone but piano version.
Damn i wish i know music theory 🙈
I don’t remember watching this video but I’m sure I’ll never forget 😈
WORSHIP THIS MAN
Great vid, insightful stuff. But yes, would be nice to not only be given the fish, but the fishing pole (underlying methodology of how you arrived there (for example the melodic minor primary chords)). Then again, I have a strong feeling I"m missing a very fundamental part of guitar and have a big blind spot that most people take for granted when it comes to minor scales and chords. Do you have any existing videos that cover how to arrive at the melodic minor primary chords? I'll probably chew on this video for a while and maybe I can derive it myself, but any shortcuts are appreciated. Cheers from Spain.
I'm trying to figure out how to explain things without losing your attention. These are complicated topics to cram into a short video
@@ShredmasterScott Understood. You really do a fantastic job. I think my blind spot in minor scales is really the issue here.
This was very educational and too many funny one liners in this to count but they're all funny. By the way, I always thought iio was an important chord for the neo classical sound? As a cadence to the major 5 and back to the tonic. Or maybe it isn't as important as I was made to believe.
Playing a diminished chord while getting a massage both builds and relieves tension.
for sure
You should do a video on secret to writing classical guitar melodies
Thank you so much for that!
you got it
Great stuff. Great channel. Thanks. ...shred till your dead!😎🤘
...at about 3:55 I was thinking I needed to go to the thrift store and see if I could score some Goth looking clothes...
Awesome content!
SHRED, can you give more examples of using Chromatic Mediants
and Neapolitan Chord? the more examples the easier to learn from
Neapolitan chord is one half step up/minor 2nd from the Root chord?
Choromatic Mediants is triad chords that are a minor 3rd apart from the next triad chord in the progression?
Also can you make a video showing all the chords yngwie malmsteen uses on his NYLON acoustic guitar songs because he uses diminished chords and bach slash chords only when he plays his NYLON acoustic guitar.
I searched neoclassical metal on the 24th and now I see this video.
YES! Brother I hear myself here, every shred minded student I’ve ever had wants to play the meat but knows nothing about the bread, bad sandwich analogy
I love The Shred
Michael Romeo is the John Williams of Progressive Metal
You had me a decreasing tension
so anyway I found out the other day that neopolitan doesn't necessarily mean strawberry, chocolate and vanilla.. imagine my shock and awe when I saw three entirely different flavours also called "Neapolitan".
3:52 Ah, hello there Devin Townsend
or Ayreon
Where are those “hail Satan” Tritone shirts??
Have the balls to wear it?
Hell yeah
I don’t like donuts! 🍩
What effect is being used at the 4:00 min mark to add that higher octave ringing? octaver? shimmer-verb? fancy plug-in? edit: I've watched this vid a bunch of times to pound this stuff into my thick skull and you start to notice details after so much repetition, and I noticed a nice selection of effects is always on the example pieces, even if it is just reverb.
The Neapolitan: oh yes that’s the key that is chocolate, strawberry AND Vanilla!
That is pretty cool stuff. Still above my pay grade (for now)
And as far as Yngwie goes that man is a philosopher of these times. How can less be more? More is more” Damn straight Yng damn straight
the man gets it
I love his Ibanez its so evil
Where do I buy that shirt from me want!!!!
What happened to Shred Master Scott?
satan came to collect
@@ShredmasterScott Bah. Satan already sold his soul to shred master Scott. How can he even have the courage to do that?
3:53 Final Fantasy VII anyone? Sounds like Sephiroth is planing something monumental here.
for sure
I am confused: the neapolitan chord in Em is supposed to be the subdominant which is Am with a minor 6th instead of the 5th. This is basically a F major chord. Now you take the 5th in the bass to get F/E. Isn' t the neapolitan chord supposed to be without the 5th???
In a minor key the neapolitan is built a half step up from the root (E) so that's F. Typically it's in first inversion, although that's not what I did. You could also call what I did a bII chord.
@@ShredmasterScott I just wondered about the E in the bass - I guess E is meant to be a pedaltone?
Any video with chromeds gets an immediate like 😈
where can i buy the tshirt?

Yeah Neo Classical Metal, The Father Yngwie Malmsteen!!!
Shreducational.
I like that
I think I've used this, even though I barely know theory.. Building tension is what makes the girls wet.. 😂😂👍
So you are in standard tuning right?
yes...but my seventh string is an octave below the 5th string
Lovin it Shred! Does your youtube channel or patreon have any content that goes into more detail about using inversions in the way you mention here? I'd love to be able to deconstruct chords/keys more and be able to make smoother melodic connections using inversions.
not in video form but you get all the tabs with my compositional notes labeling everything
Why is it that shred is the only one on UA-cam that you can understand what the hell he is talking about ! All the others just give a snap shot of something with no freaking context. He is the only one worth listening to .
cheers brother
@@ShredmasterScott
I signed up for your modes course and just getting the Ionian mode has opened my ears up to the fact that the modes are where the music is . scales can only take you so far .

Bruh, do you even Arcturus Bruh?
Neoclassical Metal sounds like Black Metal.
dude your knowledge of guitar is astounding!...i totally agree with you on learning licks but not being about to use them...stay evil bro...
Dont know why i follow this channel…..Most of the time i understand NOTHING !
There’s nothing ‘new-classical’ about this. This is what you learn in any theory class in classical music...
Something tells me you didn't understand what "neoclassial" meant at the time of writing this
How can you know such a things about musical theory, but in same time be so technically bad?
