    Got a job on there mate. Dont burn yourself out or you will be needing another holiday abroad for Xmas😂😂In the middle of doing one myself back to bare soil after killing off, and hoping to seed and top dress later this week with johnsons prem pitch and top dress with jacks magic. Problem I am finding is we have had so much rain the soil is just too wet and messy. Wish it was a lot drier, which it should be at this time of year. But didn't want to delay it any longer in the hope we get a nice week or so of dry weather, as time is getting on now in the season.
    Looking forward to seeing your results. Did my mums front lawn about two weeks ago, and gave it its first mow yesterday, looking great. Surprises me how quick the prem pitch germinates and shoots up from bare soil, and how soon we can give it it's first mow. Take it easy mate.

      Mate. So much on with work and this job it's insane
      Lucky I don't watch TV so I have plenty of time after work at the minute!
      There's a load of cheap compost at my local Morrisons that I might buy up at 3quid a bag and save some money instead of the jacks. Will see this week when I go to buy it.
      Two weeks from seed to mow is great! That's why I'm happy to do it now. Just concerned about the oaks dropping leaves but if it stops a boggy mess overwinter, I'll be happy

      @@TheReelMowingMowingClub nice one mate. Let me know what the Morrisons compost is like. I need two bags of jack's but my local the range depot is currently out of stock, so if they don't get anymore in soon, I will be looking for an alternative compost to top dress, but I do find Jack's magic great stuff👍

    Did you consider quick lime rather than liquid gypsum? You will likely need more fertiliser after using gypsum than you would with lime

    • @TheReelMowingMowingClub
      @TheReelMowingMowingClub  4 місяці тому +1

      Morning. No I haven't to be fair. It is essentially calcium oxide, where gypsum is 6% calcium.
      Reading about it now, it might be worth me putting some down to dry out the soil before adding the gypsum, as it is recommended to use this on dry soil - something I'm miles away from.at the minute!

    • @apb3251
      @apb3251 4 місяці тому +1

      @@TheReelMowingMowingClub yeah I thought that with how wet half the garden is. The quick lime has an endothermic reaction which heats the soil to dry it out but also breaks up the clay in the process to improve drainage. Just make sure to turn the soil slightly otherwise you will end up with a patio 😂

    • @TheReelMowingMowingClub

      Killed it all off. So much weed grass in it, along with weeds, starting from scratch. Did the sake this time last year (however was a bit drier!)

    • @caolanm7
      @caolanm7 4 місяці тому +1

      Cheers buddy. I keep contemplating doing the same - actually today, mowed and used a new rotavator as a verti-cutter, overseeded and top dressed using riddle & jack's magic.
      I grow grass in separate trays then transplant them into lawn after digging poa out but it's like fighting a losing battle but it's far better than what it was but would probably be easier just starting from scratch!!!
      Far from perfect but your front lawn is amazing and is inspiring me to maybe bite the bullet one day but compared to neighbours' lawns mine are like bowling greens!!! ☘️☘️☘️ I have a ton of shrubs and 30 and 40 feet trees bordering them so a lot of work constantly raking leaves, watering, digging out roots etc.
      But hey keep us posted please on back lawn mate - cheers for videos - really enjoy them! 👍☘️☘️

    • @TheReelMowingMowingClub
      @TheReelMowingMowingClub  4 місяці тому +1

      Only concern would potentially be a mis match in colour depending on the current type of grass you have, but you can resolve this with feeding and cutting regularly I suspect.
      Also, by scalping back fully before overseeding, and doing this twice a year this should make the Johnsons Premier the dominant grass type in your lawn.

      Hello Karl. Most of my products I get from greencare.

      @@TheReelMowingMowingClub thanks for the info, I'll get onto them. I've been brushing but with early work starts and darker mornings it's hard to get out before I leave. Noticing a bit of red thread recently. How would ya deal with that this time of year? I'd read something about high nitrogen feed but not too sure about that this time of year.

    • @TheReelMowingMowingClub
      @TheReelMowingMowingClub  4 місяці тому

      Treating read thread with high nitrogen just pushes growth so it grows out of the issue. Fungicides will be the only other option I believe, but this will need licensing to apply and can be expensive.
      I'd look to apply a high n liquid feed but at half rate as this dosent sustain very long in the grass like granular does.

      Hi Jack. I would hope so. It can take upto 2 weeks to see results though. I believe Yard Brah is struggling to kill his fescue off at the moment on on his 4th gylphosate application maybe?!?!
      By scalping it I have stressed the plant out too which will push it's death.
      I did the same thing last year on my side lawn renno and only hit it with one application of roundup and it came out OK.

      Hi Mike. The Doff stuff I used on the first application I bought ages ago from B&M and would have been about 7quid.
      The Spear and Jackson I got from The Range and was 12quid.
      Round Up is the original gylphosate (kind of like the original coke) so carries a premium, but any gylphosate will do to kill the lawn off.
