The memories your children will have living on a farm seeing life as God intended it to be. Wholesome.
I LOVE that you said you raised babies and toddlers first before raising pampered plants. I'm in the babies and toddler stage right now. (Baby #6 on the way). It's a good reminder for me to pace myself and not try to do everything all at once. Thank you!!
Your time will come!!!
Congratulations on baby number 6
@@elizabethtunstall thank you so much!
I raised 19 sons, only 8 years apart in age. 3 biological, and 16 adopted boys. Though we had our veggie garden, chickens, and always a milk cow, I waited to expand as well. My husband died when our sons were ages 4 to 12. I never expanding the hardening and animals, until my youngest started school. So, 1 year after my husband died. The wee ones need us to parent first. It's not a race. You'll do just fine. ❤
Congratulations on baby #6. We had issues having babies so I treasure my 3 girls.
I am exhausted watching all the work you put into these beds.
I have a friend who keeps a 3x5 file box with cards for anything she might forget. They're all in alphabetical order, and when she plants something she wants to remember or puts something "in a safe place" that she might forget she writes it on a card and files it. Ingenious!
Those boys are so cute. One is saving them for later and the other boy is feasting on the spot. I love it!!
I was raised old colony Mennonite in Manitoba, my first language was Low German, a lot like PA Dutch but probably some regional accent differences. We grew up with Saskatoon Berries which grew wild on the prairies and were incorporated into our region’s culture with recipes and foods inherited from our ancestors that came over from Russia in the late 1870s. They taste (to me) like blueberries on steroids. Big flavours! They do well in ph soil up to 7.5. My mom, having 6 kids made cookie sheets pies. Simply roll bigger pieces of pie dough into the same size as the sheets…..add sugared and floured berries to the top edge of the pan and top with another sheet of pie dough. When this is cooled and cut into rectangles it makes for an excellent hand snack we often ate outside while playing. It looks a bit like pop tarts but so much better! 😊 we came to expect out saskatoon pies in the form of sheet pan pies. Also she would make a couple of pans and bake them one at a time while the other waited in the freezer for harvest field suppers!
Oh that’s so fun!! Thanks for sharing.
I love that. Wish I had been able to learn more about farming from my grandmother's family. But she was the youngest of 6(that lived) and there was 30 something difference in age from her and the oldest. So they left farming when she was a young adult. She did have a goat farm and planned on showering us with knowledge but her husband died the yr before I was born and her step kids took her to court and she was made to sell it and split the money with them. So she sold it for $100 to her neighbor. But after that she didn't want to talk about farming much.
Thank you for sharing your blueberry planting joy. I want blueberry bushes and myself so this was very enjoyable.
Yeah!!! BLUEBERRIES !!!
I love the way the children pop the blueberries in their mouth as fast as they can pick them. Congratulations
on your blueberries, may they produce an abundance for many years to come.
Mine did that to lips were blue by the time we paid for them!😂
I loved seeing Kendrick shovel them in as fast as he could, while Harrison gathered his in his hand. Those boys!
I live in the southeast. I have to say those are the most beautiful and the biggest earthworms I have ever seen! Great for the soil condition.
My great x3-grandparents were Mennonite. They came over from Germany. I have a few pictures of them, but otherwise know nothing about them. I love your videos not only because we bought 10 acres for a homestead, but because maybe it gives me an insight on how they cooked etc. Thank you for your videos. Also, thank you for touching base on raising babies and toddlers. That's where we are now and everything is a slow process because of that, but it's okay !
Thank you so very much for sharing your lives and knowledge and recipes ❤
My daughter's dream! She LOVES blueberries. I always tell her when she grows up she is going to have to marry a blueberry farmer!
Or maybe your daughter will become a blueberry farmer. I’m a berry farmer. 😊
Ruth Ann ~ I was so touched by the story of your Zinnias and how you dry and freeze them. It’s my dream to grow Zinnias on our little farm. I am not sure if Zone categories are the same in Europe as in the US. Would you ever share any tips about planting Zinnias for success? I am so happy for your blueberries. I live in a forest full of wild blueberries and lingonberries. Looking forward to the next garden update!
Great work! God keep blessing you! Share your abundance with have nots! Amen
A very interesting post . Love watching the kids ❤️🇨🇦
Lol the boys are like baby bears raiding his blueberries 🫐🫐
Espoma makes an acidifier you can use for bluberries. In addition to pine bark, you can also use pine needles.
How come I can’t read the comments
Thumbs up . . . Thanking you . . . ❤💖❤
My husband and I are 27. We have a good ten years before we’re able to start out homestead. We’re in the toddlers stage right now, and hubby is military but seeing all of this gives me hope that even though we’ll be nearly 40 then, in ten years we will still be able to do everything we dream of!
Watching the little boys eating the blueberries made me smile😉nothing better for them. I just planted my new blueberry plants after my old ones phased out. Looking forward to my first crop.
This may well have been said earlier -but comfrey as a tight border between your lawn and garden beds will provide a nemotode barrier and grass will not grow past the Comfrey. It's a fabulous plant with many benefits to have in the garden:)
This is a great idea!!!
Lordy Ruth Ann how much more do you think you can stread yourself, bless your heart
Thank you so very much ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
We are looking at trying bit grow Blueberry plants when we get our land cleared; this info will be a tremendous help😀
I am new to your videos, but thrilled that I learn something everyday 😍. I remember many things about gardens and farming when I was growing up, but it was not fun like yours 😁
also I don’t remember being told the hows and why things were done a certain way. I love that you teach as you go, so many things to learn and saves asking a lot of questions! 🤣
I am retired and growing a few things in my flower bed and some pots, just for fun! I have watched water keep things alive, but rain makes them grow like crazy 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I have grape tomatoes, cilantro, basil, onions, and lettuce. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your videos!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Texas is a retirement place for me, not where I am originally from so learning to grow things is a challenge for me 🤣🤣
Your brother’s garden looks wonderful. Hope you are able to grow your blueberries well. Mine all died this last summer from the intense heat we have gotten. In the triple digits for the last few months. Going to start them over and pray they do well. Do not have any whey but will get the soil down to what it needs. I have a bunch of wood chips I can add to them after I order from Stark Brothers.❤️

My mother used to grow strawberries and raspberries, and we'd pick wild blueberries (and raspberries, too) - I hope your family enjoys your berries as much as we all did! God bless you all.
I love your videos. I always learn something! I’m 75 and still have lots to learn about gardening.Thank you and May God richly bless you and your gardens. ❣️
Oh how you are blessed to have a tractor...and a brother with a sawmill! ;) God bless your dream & bring it to wonderful harvests.
We have blueberries and they have been producing so much in these years we been here ! ❤❤❤❤
Maxwell is so cute! He seems very shy.
As you say, "God is good!" Thanks for sharing your experiences. I'm really enjoying your content, family and wise teachings. God blessed me well when He led me to your channel.
I just love to see children playing outside. Being bare food is so important for the body to get minerals from the earth. Love your channel!!
Oh gosh, Ms. Ruthann! That is going to be a beautiful feature in your garden. The bees will love you and there's nothing better than homemade blueberry jam!
I hope so too!
Great video.
I love your channel ❤️. Your channel reminds me of my childhood. I'm a 61 yr old single woman disabled and miss being able to get out in a garden. I still can what I can, but most is store bought.
I wish the best for your blue berries for the next 50 years, and hope you get more plants to be able to have enough for fresh eating and for pies etc.❤😊
I always enjoy your videos watching your sweet family work so well together, have a wonderful 4th of July weekend 🇺🇸
I’m 4 hours North in Minnesota of your farm and I’m learning so much that I can use in my everyday life. At my age you’d think I was wiser 😉….but a person never stops learning and I needed this information on growing blueberries!! I originally grow up in the International Falls area which is on the Ontario Canada border and we just naturally would head to the woods to our secret find, as we called it, and would go blueberry picking! So I naturally thought all of Minnesota would be ripe for blueberry growing….but that’s not true 😂…so I’m learning so much from your channel that I just wanted to take this time (I’m sure there’ll be many more times) to say a thank you for your learning, teaching and sharing! So much appreciated!! 💕👍
It’s wonderful to see you teaching your children all the life skills they are learning as they help you.
SO GLAD YOU GET TO DO SOMETHING FOR "YOU". SENDING MUCH LOVE AND PRAYERS YOUR WAY.
Enjoy your blueberries! I love them. Be blessed for all your hard work!!!!
Good job y’all
You might like to try honeyberries, they can handle your soil, taste like blueberries, and don't need any baby care LOL. I have to say, how utterly refreshing to find such goodness in all of your videos, I can watch your channel with my grandchild without fear of objectionable language, I thank you. We do have blueberries but they do need a lot of acidification! Also bees for pollination, so maybe plant your flowers very close by.
My roses came with paper tags on the package and I put them in a binder and listed where I planted each and every one of them it's the same thing about drawing a diagram and keeping a garden notebook. My flower bulbs and things of that nature when I ran out of time and energy to get them into notebook I put them in a box one of the decorative shoe boxes.
I had a very good friend that did landscaping. I will always remember he told me “water keeps the plants alive but the rain makes them grow”. We see this in God’s creation. God is so good!
That’s a Beautiful sight right there wind blowing kidos eating fresh blueberries healthy wholesome goodness and sunshine ☀️
This was really great, and very informative for those who would love to grow blueberries. Pine needles are also good for blueberries, but like wood chips they take long to break down. That was a great video thank you ☺️
Boys are always hungry . Glad to see them filling up their tummys.
You are so fun to watch and your kids. I have a 9 year old granddaughter that lives next door. She helps me with the chickens, we go fishing at our lake and other things. Have a blessed day.
I noticed on this video that you do not have any mountains in Iowa I live in Kentucky and we have mountains all around us I live down in a Valley beautiful land in Iowa but I love Kentucky!!! I love you!!!
I'M HAPPY FOR YOU. MAY YOU HAVE MANY YEARS OF BOUNTIFUL HARVESTS.. STAY BLESSED.
Kendrick and them blueberries 😂💙
Rain is a blessing. I just love the way the garden greens up after a real rain. No matter how you water, it just is not the same.
Right!! So amazing
Pine straw will also acidify your soil, as well as provide a mulch cover
Also, the app - Planter (on iPhone) allows you to name a garden, add its size, and place plants in location in the bed, along with notes and custom varieties. Then you could transfer it to a keepsake journal, later on
Maxwell is so darn cute😊
Growing fruit is so rewarding. My pear trees will bare their first fruits. They are still young.
It’s so rewarding
I have been watching your videos for a while now and love this bedding idea. I am disabled and an empty nester now. I have has 2 beautiful gardens about 7yrs ago with beautiful big red tomatoes and orange heirloom tomatoes that looked like small pumpkins ,about handsize. I miss my garden. I was thinking of doing raised beds and I like your idea of yours still gives me a little bit off the ground. That should make it easier on my back. I usually plant tomatoes, squash and zucchini, peppers, green onions and okra. I love to can too! You have inspired me to try again! With God's help I can strengthen my back and get back into shape.
Those are enormous angle worms! Must be very healthy soil. You will have a wonderful harvest of blueberries. The plants in your brothers garden are amazing. 300! Wow!
How exciting your family is going to enjoy these for many years
I’m so happy that I bumped through here and found your UA-cam videos. Luv the way you teach and do things with your family. I’m myself learning . Here from Harrisburg Pennsylvania
Hello!!! I know Harrisburg pa!!!
Yes , my parents raised me old fashion ways. Lost my husband 2/21 . We’re married close to 25 yrs. so I’m here in a house by myself. I work at the VA from Lebanon, Just transferred to VA in new Cumberland which is so close to home in Steelton. Would love to visit your farm & learn from you. Never toured a farm before. It looks so nice& organized I’m starting to can but I’m afraid of using my pressure one. 😮 you make the gardening so easy. Can’t wait for 2024 gardening 👩🏻🌾
Beautiful gardens. It seems like all i do is fight weeds ( and loose) in my gardens. Between the weeds and wildlife i get discouraged.
Just a joy to a lovely Saturday morning! 🙏🏻
I always put my used coffee grounds on my blueberry plants an left over coffee.
You can also use diluted vinegar an water around the plants.
Amen on the rain
Well this video explains why all my blueberries don’t produce! Thank you!
Oh I am going to try these trip with Blueberries here, we have volcanic soil and it’s high PH so going to try again planting with your tricks. Love your channel so much. Hi from cool Queensland Australia (winter here)
I learn so much from you RuthAnn! Thank you for teaching me!
I understand about waiting on plants you want, because you are raising babies. I have been babysitting for thirty-two years and have a daughter with autism and seizures She is thirty-nine. Last year I asked my husband if I could please start a fruit orchard and he said yes. This year, I planted more berry bushes and fruit trees. My grandchildren will love helping eat all the goodies. They love helping in the garden. Love all the information about blueberry bushes. I learned a lot. Love your channel. Blessing from Kentucky.
I have wanted to grow blueberries forever, but, even though they are naturally grown in my area, they do not thrive in my yard. It’s too alkaline as well. BUT Saskatoon berries (also called service berry) do great! They taste like a mild blueberry, a little smaller with a larger, edible seed. They are a favourite in my home. Haskaps (also called honey berry) also do good but they need an appropriate pollinator. Saskatoons are self pollinating. No babysitting.
Ruth Ann you don't need to write down the blueberry plants . Just review this video.
I hope your plants flourish and you have abundant harvests. Did you know in the deep south all
they can grow is elephant garlic. It is because all other garlic needs to go through stratification.
don't know if you have access to pine straw near you , but it works great for the blueberries. Thanks for your all your work, love to watch all the goings on out there.
Lovely blueberry plants and that water looks so clear and cool.
When I had raspberries and blueberries, only a few of each we put down chicken droppings around them to make more acidity
Something I have heard to use as a natural border is planting comfrey. The roots act as underground wall that weeds and grass have a hard time getting through.
That’s an interesting idea!
Your kids picking fruit snacks was priceless. When my raspberries are on, I tell my kids fruit snacks are ready. They love picking fresh fruit. Enjoy your new blueberry plants, time and a season for all things. It really is good to know when needs your time and attention the most from year to year.
Great Job Everyone from SC !
❤❤❤🎉🎉❤❤❤ SO HAPPY YOU DID IT. BLUEBERRY PIE COMING UP 😊
This was so informative and delightful to watch. My soil where I live is also very, very alkaline and I've never known how to amend that so I can plant those acid living plants. Thank you!
The sulfur pellets, I believe will be the key for us!!!
Thank you❤!!! I just planted blueberries. I ordered the sulfur pellets and a ph meter after watching your video.
Glad I could help!
I'm so glad you are able to enjoy your passion.
This was so helpful! I now know probably why I havent been very successful with Blueberries.
Yay! A dream coming true is always exciting.
Thank you for all the blueberry tips. I had a viewer gift me a blueberry from my Amazon wish list this spring. It started to grow really good at first but now it's starting to yellow maybe I need to check the ph. Thanks for sharing. Garden is beautiful.
I bet it’s your PH!!!
@@Ruthannzimm I'll have to find a kit to test the soil. Thanks again 😊
I’m so thankful for all the information that you gave…. I have one blueberry bush’ it’s called patriot it’s been great. I’ve planted all my fruit trees & berries for my grandchildren & teacher them about good home grown food…. And why it’s so important to do . What’s in your store are not always healthy and how to read labels. 🫶🏼 blessings 🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing this video. I have learned so much on how to grow blueberries. I too would love to have a large blueberry patch. I learn so much from you, thank you. God's blessing on an abundant garden.
Tried for years to grow blueberries. I learned more in this video than all the other videos and books down through the years. I may try again. You have inspired me. I have no babies to focus on now so there is no excuse! I think you are a sure-nuff Proverbs 31 Gal !
i especially njoy your videos which are engaging and informative but mostly I njoy them bc of you! it’s like a visit with a dear sister! Blessings ✨
I'm so glad! Thanks for these kind words!!!
Congratulations on fulfilling your dream! It was so fun watching the boys packing in the berries. If I were there, I’d be joining them. Can’t wait to see them next year.
Beds look beautiful. I love your farm. Reminds me of home. (a dairy farm on the eastern shore of Maryland.). Wonderful memories. Thank you.
In ga while there younger birds will et them all. We net. How's yours doing?
I live about a half hour from starks nursery. They have very nice plants and trees. Love watching your videos!
Sooo excited for the new video. You and your family are such an inspiration. I always learn something new from you. I pray God's blessings on you all.
You are welcome I so enjoy your channel and your farm...reminds me of my childhood, but my mother had to start working out side the home...and it was hard on a 9 year old to start cooking and doing a womans work with 7 males and me and my mom...she worked pm shifts so we never saw her. So I learned to cook on my own. And I am a great cook still. But i chose not to have kids;;because I had to raise her's
Hope yaw get a big harvest love the planting beds
Thank you! Love, love, love your videos! I look forward to watching each one!
Yay! Thank you!
