Super muzyka i super zespół ! Pozdrawiam,
They are so good. Thanks from Hawaii
This group are amazing. So talented and entertaining for certain. Wow the lady violinist so good. As all of them are.Brilliant. Thank you so very much.
Ich habe nie gedacht, das mir eine Polka gefallen würde.........Aber DIESE POLKA ist einfach PHANTASTISCH....Wie die ganze Musik von Otava Yo
Ievan (Eva) polkka is old Finnish hit, have roots of Finnish folk music. I am very proud Otava You play it perhaps in every concert. I think this polka has come to your program from old Helsinki street players, Mitja and Petja. I have heard you on this time.
Not Eva. Ieva is a very old name in finland allso!
I think "Ievan Polkka" based on old russian folk melody "Smolenski Gusachok".. In the middle of ХIХ century this melody was brought to Southern Karelia by Russian settlers from the Western Russian provinces
Very very nice.
Cool band super songs!!!
Gente ! Incrível ! Eles, tocam , cantam e dançam , ao mesmo tempo .

I beg youuuuuuuu!!!
Ja ljublju vas, rossijskie...
LOL, I'm used to Loituma's version, but this is FUN.
great
Where is the original version :/. Seems like no longer on internet. Anyone help?
Just write ievan polkka original.
It's an old folk tune anyway, maybe from the 18th century.
So we can't find the 'original' :)
the lyrics were only made in the 1930's or 20's.
It was mostly played as instrumental before that, even as a lullaby, in a calmer tempo (check one guy playing this with a piano in hotel/scyscraper - you'll get the lullaby version). So this performance is actually pretty close to the early 20th century - though Finns didn't have bagpipe :) And this band is missing an accordeon, to sound original Finnish.
Local bands maybe had made some lyrics before that 30's version, but those are now the official. Check the Lumberjack version to get the old genuine effect. It's a comedic version - but the joy of the song is there. The story of the song is actually about a guy taking a girl called Eva (Ieva) to dance - so a guy would sing it, originally. The 90's version by Loituma mixed that up for many.
timomastosalo wait not the original ievan polkka. I meant the version made by Otava Yo(Отава ё)
This performance is emitating Отава ё's version. Also I have actually found the thing I was looking for. It's apparently no longer on UA-cam. But Reddit user www.reddit.com/u/pugna_vel_intereo helped me find it

timomastosalo thanks anyway for your input. I got some insights I didn't know about before
Maybe it's now again in UA-cam by this name:
Otava Yo "Finskaya pol'ka" - Отава Ё "Финская полька".
Those players seem different than these.
The name itself:
1) Otava, means in Finnish the Big Dipper star (Big Bear?) constellation in the northern sky. Or it is also an old word for scoop :) Maybe you know, the 7 stars near the North star - people see them as ancient war wagons or a scoop, dipper. You can follow the line from the 2 front stars of the scoop (back of the wagon) straight up, and you'll find the North star, the lonely bright star high up, pointing the north for a traveller.
2) Yo (=jo), means 'already' in Finnish. It could mean something in Russian which I don't know. Well, it's a name of a letter in the alphabet :)
Then, Otava yo means '(A) scoop already' in Finnish. Not likely what they had in mind.
So I don't know if these guys played some word tricks with their name, knowing some Finnish. They could be from Karelia, where people speak a language that's practcally a Finnish dialect. The Eastern Finnish dialects are nearly the same, only the Russian words are missing, and a few sound changes.
timomastosalo huh it seems to be back now. Odd

Anyone knows what melody is that at 0:55?
Impro from this song.
А что- кто-то ещё отава-е не знает? Всем скину
Zero dislikes
Man... the guy holding the violin really bugs me. Not even holding the bow in the middle bugs me that much.
But who cares its a good video.
Also why aren't there any leek spinners here?
It's not a Violin, It's a Fiddle, If you listen , you will notice that it has a distinctly different sound, And that is how the fiddle is held and played, . Yulia plays classic Violin as She is classically trained,
Swww
What's the joke? I don't get it and being of Finnish decent we never found Commies very funny.
"Being of finnish decent" "One of my great great grandfathers supposedly came from Finland but I am plain , boring, pasty American"
Loituma a single boy this a Single Girl
