For the amount of times I’ve seen wrong house demolished news clips on UA-cam. I think it’s clear that people need to communicate and confirm by showing the physical address with the contractors instead of just relying on an address. The supervisor or who ever is in charge of the demolition crew should be brought to the physical address with who ever is hiring them to confirm the location. And that person should be required to be there on the first day to make sure his crew is at the right location. I mean with the amount of stuff you need to pull with the town to demolish a house you would think there would at least have been a few visit to the site to confirm what the client want. To determine what equipment they need. To plan out how the want to demolish it, looking for any risk and checking to see what nearby property there is that can’t be damaged. As far as I know contractors and well any professional business wouldn’t just do a job without checking a site. Like how else will they did a proper quote. So unless this is some very bad management on the supervisor who doesn’t make sure his crew is at the right site. Or maybe nobody ever check and confirms the site and they just get hired on the fly and show up which sounds ridiculous because again at least where I’m from you should be pulling a permit and all this shit.
Think about how many houses are demolished. The ones on UA-cam are probably some of the only wrong houses demolished because it's such a big deal when it happens.
At least he will get paid. I just watched a video on UA-cam of a criminal hiding in a guys house when he was out, the cops shot the house up so bad it was totally destroyed and they wouldn't pay for the repairs.

Simple solution. They should be made to rebuild an EXACT replica of that house using the same building materials (hardwood, pine etc). They should also replace the furniture with period furniture. Yeah. Replacing an old, abandoned, empty house that was probably in need of major repairs with a modern one (or at least the money to build one) isn't such a bad trade-off. The guy actually kind of lucked out here. At least he didn't lose his personal possessions as is sometimes the case in other "demolition gone wrong" stories when a fully furnished home that someone is currently living in gets accidentally knocked down.
You can't even find the same quality lumber to rebuild it with AND 100 years ago that lumber was cut a full 2x4, 4x6, 2x8, 2x10, etc. No fractions, lots of old growth oak, hickory, maple, redwood, fir, black walnut, ect.

Wasn't even a family home he grew up in, probably just a family friend who had no family of her own to pass it down to. Maybe it's true, but I don't buy the sentimental value part of his story, but it is a good way to squeeze more money out of the compensation and I don't blame him for it either lol. They probably compensated him pretty good, but now he is stuck with a vacant lot in a city that makes rebuilding a huge pain in the ass for someone who doesn't even live there to care to go through the BS to get approval. So it could be possible that it's not even worth it for him to rebuild something there at the moment if ever. Needs to sell that lot asap or start the process to get approval to build something soon, because the city is still going to want to collect taxes on the value of the old home, and you can bet your ass the tax assessment will continue to rise each year unless he was smart enough to get that part taken care of lmao!
