The story of Link Wray meeting John Lennon is amazing. Was an article about Link a few years ago in Uncut. I dare not misquote it. But basic thumbnail is John Lennon and Yoko were on an elevator with their secretary who recognized Link and said “hi Link” . To which John wheeled around and exclaimed “you’re Link Wray, I love you man!” Well you get the gist of it. Respect to the great old musicians.
Such swagger. I imagine this guy at a party, back in the days, and some guy saying, 'see that dude? Don't mess with that dude.' Man was a complete boss. Elvis's delinquent cousin. Link and Iggy, us old punks will love you 'til we are no more.
InfoScholar, I actually had the honor seeing Mr. Link Wray perform at the 5 Points Music Hall in Birmingham Alabama. I caught the last few of songs in his act by accident and I'm glad I did because he passed away not too long after, and I didn't even know that he was in town, that day. I knew who he was and what impact he had on rock n roll, but I wasn't familiar with a lot of his music at the time, but I was very fortunate to have been there for the short time I was. I'm a lot more familiar with his stuff now. I just wish that I could have been at the 5 Points Music Hall a lot earlier.
Yes, I Also caught Iggy Pop twice, let's see... The Cramps I've seen once ,unfortunately. The Ramones, I got to see twice, then Reverend Horton Heat , I saw twice. Southern Culture on the Skids ,about 4 to 6 times, I'm not too because there were a lot of great shows and I was pretty loaded at a lot of them when I was a lot younger. Yeah I'm from Alabama but I was born in Seattle, but I couldn't tell you anything about that part of the country other than there's a lot of flannel shirts and coffee houses over there.
@@spottedsaint957 Southern Culture are awesome live. I'm from their home state of NC and I've seen them 6 times and they always destroy. The last show I went to of theirs, they played through Dirt Track Date in its entirety
To be a 3 piece band you all have to be exceptional.. This man right here.. the reason I picked up a guitar.. They beat the recorder into me with a stick in school.. I wanted revenge.. and I got it with a battered Rickenbacker 340 and a beaten up old Sound City stack.. Long Live Link !!!
Link Wray was SO cool. He was one of the first rockers I got turned on to, back in the very early '60's--- Rumble, Jack the Ripper, The Black Widow, bunch more. Had the chance to meet him. Seemed like a really good dude...
As Shayne says, thank you so much for posting. Link thought the world of John and i was trying to find the Winterland Video where i danced with Link when he played Jack the Ripper... was awesome to see this. Thanks
HOW RIGHT YOU ARE. THOSE BAND OUT THERE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR THAT EARTHY SOUND WITH TECHNO EQUIPMENT. THEY'LL SEARCH AND SEARCH, AND NEVER FIND IT. SCOBIEAKALINKWRAY BAND. laurel, MD.
I loved the stuff made by Ampegs! A luthier friend makes replica Ampeg basses and has a decade's worth of orders. A good music equip company in the analog years. Great Ampeg!
So simple yet so original.Link doesn't seem to ever need to slow down to catch his breath having one lung, The stanamia he has is unbelievable! RIp you guys!!!!
The sound behind Jimi Hendrix, he first did all those sounds and feedback he invented it Jeff Beck knows it , Jimmy Page loves him. This is an awesome video with the live sound loud and clear.
Link personified a man’s maximization of his God given gift. A Korean War hero and casualty, one can’t help but wonder if his sparse and intermittent vocals can be attributed to the breathing he lost with a lung in combat. Providentially, unlike his collection of unmistakable power cords, the “less is better” style he is known for only makes him that much greater.
This was a great show. Constant and fluid with a good touch of mystic in the guitar sounds with hard edge psychedelic leads that what we were listening for. Hats off to ya LINK. Wherever you are ! SCOBIEAKALINKWRAY BAND.. laurel, MD.
John cipollina wàs into Link and inspired by him. Like an idol or something like that. If you go back on john's videos there's one where he's way out there discribing Link's style. John also for those who don't know played extra with the dead from time to time.
Link Wray was soo wronged. He never was given what he deserved but ,as a 4 ****General in the Rock N Roll Army.Never retired,Passed away on the battlefield of Rock N Roll..1955"Rumble goes Gold. The 1st Guitar music,I am almost positive ,Link was before Duane Eddy.
Black River, NC. I mean to visit it, kinda southwest of Raleigh. Gawd this show is awesome! He put out such extra super powerful music. Indigenous power.
I stumble on these oldies video's way late; I hate to comment when there this old. But can anyone tell me, if your still watching, is this the bass player that played with Boston? Shorter hair yes but is his twin in the face.
I had the privilege to be kicked out of the Pier Club for "dirty dancing" to Jack the Ripper, and later, the further privilege of hiring Link Wray and the Wraymen for a Delta Sigma Pi fraternity "Mixer" at Georgetown University.
It is 2024, I am 82 soon to be 83, and I was in high school when my date and I were kicked out and two or three years went by before the hire for the frat party.
Is that a Strat? There are similarities, but the headstock doesn't look "Fender-Style" and that pick guard doesn't look like one on a Strat. Also, the Jack Plug doesn't look like a Fender. What is that axe? What a wonderful dirty sound. This man was ahead of his time.
And Nutz! Link has more talent in his sleep than you will ever gno! They all went to school at Wrays Place, some even still copy the cats licks and shit.
Link Wray; At first he appeared to be merely a guitar player of mediocre talent who's skill primarily showed up in his hubris at posturing, his decline into depravity was substantiated by the deaths of the neighborhood's cat and dogs...
Hearing this I can understand how Neil Young cites Link Wray as an influence of his music. Nothing like straight up rock. This band is tight!

Wow I so luck two hear an special occasion to see link Ray at Winterland San Francisco two times
it was amazing to hear such guitar work. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🔊🔊😄
You can't help but feel you can take on the world when playing through fuzz.
Yeah - FUZZ : the ultimate BADD-ASS Tone.
depends who's playing it IMO. I've heard it sound like carboard being pissed on
As Shayne says, thank you so much for posting. Link thought the world of John and i was trying to find the Winterland Video where i danced with Link when he played Jack the Ripper... was awesome to see this. Thanks
This blows away 99persent of most music

I was at this show. He used Ronnie Montrose's wall of Ampegs! Massive sound and historic!
Wasn't that at the show he did at the WAX MUSEUM IN D.C.

you were at a legendary event this is an amazing set how did the bass sound it is very clear on this video
overwhelmingly fantastic, thank you
Pretty sure this footage is from May 2nd or3rd, 1975 Winterland show; he opened for Joe Walsh, and I was there...HE ROCKED!!!
So simple yet so original.Link doesn't seem to ever need to slow down to catch his breath having one lung, The stanamia he has is unbelievable! RIp you guys!!!!
How could anyone follow this?
The sound behind Jimi Hendrix, he first did all those sounds and feedback he invented it Jeff Beck knows it , Jimmy Page loves him. This is an awesome video with the live sound loud and clear.
Link was so far ahead of his time!
❤️ solid beyond solid. Mister Link Wray ❤️

His gravelly version of Jimmy Reed’s “Ain’t that Lovin’ You Baby” might perfectly express the greater value of the one-lunged singer!
He called his guitar "Screamin' Red".
How he comes strutting out on that stage… my god how cool
The coolest of the kool.
Thanks for posting all the video's they are great! :)
Such an easy walk for that rad sound!
This is the guy Lou Reed wanted to be...
This was a great show. Constant and fluid with a good touch of mystic in the guitar sounds with hard edge psychedelic leads that what we were listening for. Hats off to ya LINK. Wherever you are ! SCOBIEAKALINKWRAY BAND.. laurel, MD.
Underrated for sure ,raw rock
So good
Before there was metal, there was Link Wray
Super cool

The drummer sure ain't no slouch on these cuts! Hat's off to him too!

Tough call -close whichever-which-way. I liked and like both, then and now.
This is spectacular, it's Elvis meets Black Sabbath.
Thank You for sharing this! 😎👍🙏🏻
fucking fantastic
Link = Legend
John was simply the best....he is missed.
Wonderful concert! Even some Tony Joe White stuff*****
The chewing gum did it for me. Love his swagger
First time I heard the rumble I liked it
The father of distortion and the power chord
What a beautiful ❤️ gifted musical man!!!!
Nice upload!!! :)
good style of clothing as well - cool scene.
One of the good things that came out of NC... And as we know, a talented, poor, marginalized person of Indigenous heritage. In other words, a miracle.
Black River, NC. I mean to visit it, kinda southwest of Raleigh. Gawd this show is awesome! He put out such extra super powerful music. Indigenous power.
@@qwa15 Been there - go into "tourist information" Lotsa' Link.
Cippolina definitely turned it up then added more.
ANTIVIRAL LOVE TO ALL OF YOU OUT THERE 💞💕💓👽🖤🖤🖤
Is this the Maestro Fuzz tone going on?? FZ-1 circuit..? It has that “Stone Free” tone but with more gain and fuzz, a better battery probably
That's so grungy I need a shower now.
was Link Wray the coolest guy that ever existed?
⚡️🤘🎸⚡️
Yes.
Link might say Bo Diddley invented Heavy Metal and would say so correctly. Still, Link rocks!
Real Rock 'N Roll
What a fucking Badass! Definitely up there with Neil in terms of the ultimate guitar sound.
So f'in good it's flippin' ridiculous...!
Love link
amazing drum kit - are those DW or the rare drum company the inspired DW.. I forget the name Can am or something.
Wish I had more boys lik link!.
reminds me of Cordell Jackson i wonder if they were friends....
this was not the beginning. cippolina started long before this
Links on, ROCK ON.
🙌🙏💖

Whos the drummer?
or what it would sound like if they had a guitar dual..... (with cordell jackson)
Could be Kin to the King , Elvis .
So how old could Link Ray have been when this hit?
Music keeps you young man. His fifty was another brother’s 26!
Thank God for the Native Americans!
Ah, some. Words seem small.
I am totally attracted to him 😍
Don't call me a gentleman, Cassy, some wouldn't like it!!! :)
Poison Ivy of the Cramps is more like Link Wray than John Cipollina is.
Right???

❤💛✨LINK WRAY !!✨🖤 🤍
In response to Terry RYes, cheap thrills abound...
I'm hearing some Jimmy Hendrix sneaking around in that guitar of Link's!
You've got it backwards. You here Lin's Influence "sneaking around" in Jimi's guitar playing. BTW, it's "Jimi", not "Jimmy".
In a strange way, Links energy reminds me of Lou Reed energy. No wrapping it to make it pretty, I'll eat it here kind of musical faceplant
so this is where Jack White got 99% of his act from .
Talking about raunchy
Moderately interesting, I suppose. But what does this have to with Cipolina or his style?
Hahaha
Lame offering why not save it for your peanut gallery? Idiot
"Moderately interesting " too bad that your delinquent needless unmerited lame comment isn't!
Shut your pie hole punk
STHIL. Steppin, Bo DIDDLEY Best
So maybe I can be Rockstar after all. Big attitude, cool hair , a lot of fuzz and a sweet drum/bass combo. Not much talent required, just guts.
And Nutz!

Dead wrong relax yer no "rock star"
