In my opinion, competitive team sports has always displayed the same basic core principles as the military. Hard work, discipline, respect, team work, brotherhood, doing YOUR job and trusting your brother will do his, as well as a certain selflessness. There truly is no I in team. When you walk in the gym, the only thing that matters is the ball and the team. Leave your egos outside at the door b4 you enter my gym. It's not the kids that made me retire from coaching AAU, it was the parents, constantly trying to undermine my teachings instead of reinforcing good values. Shooting around w your kid in the driveway only teaches them how to play ball. The values I instill in children can teach them how to be true professionals, as well as successful, well-rounded human beings.

The skills these kids possess are just a sign of the times. The world has advanced in so many ways, so it's just natural that this would happen with the kids. They are exposed to a lot more and have a lot more information in previous generations. I'm early forties and we grew up wanting to be like Michael Jordan. We weren't doing drills like the NBA players at that age we didn't know anything about that. These kids can find any basketball-related info they need online.

@@liammonaghan4785 Of course not, but "talent" is subjective in many aspects and its super over-used these days.. And really, Basketball is a lot less about talent, and much more about genetics.. You have to be super tall and athletic. I mean just look at Ben Simmons.. Dude has next to no "talent" for the actual fundamentals of the game, solely relies on his genetics and athleticism, and somehow people label him the next Lebron(up until recently)...
