i spent $300 for a quest2, $850 for 3060 laptop, $80 for wifi6 router, $20 for virtual desktop and of course $60 for Alyx and wow, money well spent. Its what years of development has got us to. I just hope there's more AAA content coming to VR soon.
If you played Half Life Alyx the way it should be played, i.e. wireless with a good headset, you will spoil any other gaming experience with it. All other games seem like child's play. For me HL: Alyx is an absolute Game Changer. Every other game has to measure itself against it.
the way the host (Lara) delivers her lines in the first 25 seconds and clasps her hands together at the end gives me the impression she has never played half-life...it's almost cringe enducing how fake her enthusiasm is for something she has likely never bothered to experience and doesn't understand what made it special. that's not the kind of remark or reaction anyone that has played this game would have based on what she is saying...totally disconnected. Secondly...Nat Saunders, you don't miss things looking to the right or left, if you do, please tell me when...they happen right in front of you buddy, the way they were scripted to. I have no idea what you're talking about. BBC, you actually needed to get people to replace Lara and Nat that know what they're talking about for a game like this, it's sad that you and them don't realise how ignorant they sound talking about such an influential game, they seem to have no idea what so ever as to why the game is as important as it is.
The Forest VR - most immersive game ever! I am a gamer for about 20-30 years already.... and The Forest VR is my game af all times! So VR is changing entertainment industry very fast - for me it turned upside down everything what is related to gaming. Half-life is not a beginning! It is just next small step in this huge transformation.
They do exist and they are supported in a couple of games. VRchat is where you'll find most "full body" VR players. The sensors are called Vive Trackers, there are a couple of other technologies available but those are the easiest and cheapest to get your hands on
So you are going to drop your body on the ground to dropkick zombies? I would think that a majority of gamers are not even fit enough to perform a dropkick in real life.
what gaming lacks these days is proper 3 monitor support, especially with nvidia cards with proper perspective when you fold in your side monitors and the view folds which looks weird. nvidia has support to correct that but it's up to the developer to use it but NO GAMING COMPANY is adopting that feature.
I have 3 monitor, and yes I would want to use the SMP my gtx 1070 support. Just Minecraft would be awesome. I now play mostly with the htc Vive, and some flat game when I active the nvidia surround. This thing is a pain
I wanted my Index because i always wanted a Vr headset and then you got one of the best Vr games for free when you ordered one of the best Vr Headsets on the market so yeah kind of self explaining.
Its "a feature, function, or application of a new technology or product which is presented as virtually indispensable or much superior to rival products". Alyx does look much better than anything from before. It looks amazing. It fits well.
@@algotn its a joke half life 1 was gonna be released in 1997 but delayed 1 year later half life 2 also was gonna release 1 2003 but got delayed in the same week it was releasing on
@@hecunotmakingalogisquad5785 actually they delayed it twice as i heard, firstly alyx should have been launched on 2019 with index. As for half life 2 the game was delayed because some smarty hacker thought that leaking all the materials from unreleased game is funny.
@@Industrialman96 true and then they delayed it because a code for the source engine was leaked with it and a playable version of half life 2 was leaked to player but that a was joke we are know like 4 hours away from release also hello gordon
Until they can find a way for players to move around freely in a space, with something like a suit/harness/ gloves/ haptic suit/ environment simulator, (Ready Player One sort of deal), VR will be like the Wii. Fun at first because it's new, everyone gets on the hype train, and then it becomes obsolete because it stagnates. Then, something new will come down the line. Focus on making a movement interface that involves your body and the senses, and then make your AAA VR title. The handheld controls are so janky and awkward. You'll just end up clotheslining the nearest person and looking like a moron with that brick you're wearing on your face, standing and crouching in place. No one wants to stand up for that long either, we all do it enough at our workplaces. Valve should've just stuck to half life 3. This is going to be a disaster for Valve. VR isn't even VR, its awkward movement with a 360° view. If they would focus on making that interface fluid and seamless, mimicking reality as closely as possible, the possibilities would be limitless. Imagine if some company came out with something like that, the response would be overwhelming. Maybe in 10 years we'll be able to play a true VR experience, but I've got a feeling this is going to bomb. Also, never mind building up hype for 16 years, only to isolate your player base. The least Valve could've done is made it cross platform. Just my two cents from an opinion that doesnt matter.
- Half-Life: Alyx
- Boneworks
- The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners
These three titles elevated VR in my opinion.
@Squishling Yeah
You need to also play Lone Echo, Asgards Wrath, and Hellblade.
Boneowrks is good game, but the controls could be better
@@masterjo_6703 Boneworks was designed specifically for the Index controllers.
@@masterjo_6703 It could be awkward sometimes because it is mostly physics based. We need more time to flesh out the VR physics.
watching this in my HEV suit
This is gonna be the longest week I've ever had.
I'm going into an induced coma this afternoon. Will wake up on the 22nd.
Tell me about it.
Imma still awaiting for my Index to arrive... So GG

Is “killer app” some sort of commonplace British slang? I’ve never heard the term before in my life.
No fairly common in software industry discussions in USA - a software dev

I think valve employees are separated into their own separate offices anyways, so there is little threat of corona virus for them.

Devs said this time they'd try waiting to announce it until it was basically done. Imagine that shit.

50 bucks?

Generic AAA title price.

But the equipment costs more. The equipment is not the app itself, tho. By that logic, every game costs hundreds.
