Came back here to reflect on 2024 now.
Canada winning 9 Gold medals! Winning 27 medals in total in Paris.
Canadian Men Soccer getting all the way to the Semis at COPA!
My father talks about those lean years. Where Canada was just happy to be there. How times have changed!
    (Updated to 2024)

It's now 2022. I was there on the streets of Vancouver when we beat the US. THRILLING. The whole 2010 Vancouver Olympics were a never to be forgotten treasure! Like others have said, still brings chills and tears to the eyes. Those were the days!!

Never been prouder to be Canadian. I was lucky to go to some of the events and random outbreaks of O'Canada on the skytrain and in downtown were magic moments. I believe we really set the bar for host countries going forward.

I'm now a dual citizen but when I'm asked what my nationality is with out hesitation I say I'm Canadian and so proud of that fact.

I'm not Canadian, I'm from Italy. Last month I went to Nice to watch Ice Skating Words Finals. For the first time I had the joy to see live Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir skating and winning their second Gold Medal. It was a true emotion: they are two fantastic skaters but first of all they have some kind of magic that nobody can teach you and nobody can learn. You can have it or not. They have.

The history leading to this Olympic is also critical to understanding its relevance. In the history of the Olympics there had been only one country that had hosted an had failed to win a gold. That was Canada and we did it twice; 1976 Montreal and 1988 Calgary. We never had much to cheer about in any Olympic save perhaps the heavily boycotted 1984 Los Angeles Games. It was quite embarrassing. The “Own the Podium” program changed all that with improved and better directed funding. The addition of sports where we could excel and the addition of NHL players made the lead up to Vancouver 2010 very promising. The result exceeded expectations in all aspects. The organization, Yanofsky’s inspiring tune, the celebratory Olympic village, the record setting number of Golds capped off with the most coveted prize of double hockey gold medals. Such an incredible event.

And that first gold medal from the last goal was something that for anybody who witnessed this will always be in our Canadian hearts.

I can’t tell you the reason why. Each and every time I watch this video, the moment when the Men’s Pursuit Speed Skate team comes out of the corner in perfect synchronized fashion, I immediately start crying. They explode down the home stretch, all three in a straight line, all three crossing at basically the same time. Gives me chills.

The one that always stuck out for me was Christine Nesbitt. Both at the time and now you could see in her eyes that she didn't think she gave her best performance and was surprised to have won. It was more relief than elation as she must have felt enormous pressure. I'm not sure she enjoyed the moment as much as she should have.
