greatest high c ever? the argument could be made...

already see his vocal issues creeping up here. The bottom Eb becomes unreachable for him after the high note. This is a common issue with young tenors. I'm not sure who taught him appoggio, but we can see this same issue creeps up further and further into his range, until in the 2000's where it seems as though every note below F fails to resonate in the house as his top. A great talent with huge potential, intelligence and generosity, however fails to compare with the great standard set by singers of the middle and early 20th century.

Everyone's a critic. Later on he a had a well-known voice teacher in NY who helped many singers with their top notes and destroyed them otherwise.I won't mention names.

@@stephpwall it was a very mild critique as his vocal issues have been well known for almost two decades.
You’re on a war path. Is this how you react to every critical comment?

@@stephpwall lol. Mmm no thanks to your suggestions. I prefer pertile, MDM, Corelli- and pretty much any Italian singer before the 1970s when conductors started offering (and singers starting taking) vocal advice. Again- nothing personal- I’m sure he was a great guy, just not a technique that should be mimicked. Style? Artist? Sure, great. Technique? Athleticism? No.

@@singermanz Pertile had precious little warmth in his middle register. Everything sacrificed to make beautiful top notes. This is a good strategy to sing Des Greiux in Puccini which he is unsurpassed in. I am a great admirer of MDM, a truly unique performer who created a very high standard to hold himself to. Corelli? a wreck, let's compare his grasp of the french language compared to Marcello for fun. And Corelli singing legato? please send me a sample of this. A great throat to be sure but if your accusing Giordani of being an unfulfilled potential and holding up Corelli as an example of great artistry, well what can I say ??? Corelli had a great publicity machine like Pavarotti but in terms of fulling his potential???

@@stephpwall I agree with you on a lot of what you’re saying, but just because a singer happens to have solid diction doesn’t mean it negates their vocal issues. I’d rather listen to a solid throat with a speech impediment than a terrible throat with perfect diction. Admittedly my preference, though I don’t think it a bad one.
