Being that the power ups would give Mario the ability to throw all those weapons out of his palms, he’d do okay. His athletic ability is far beyond Bill Rizer. His only weakness would be him getting hit. When Bill gets hit, he dies and starts over. Mario would get hit and keep going, but lose his powerup. Mario fighting one of Contra’s bosses with nothing but jump power may not be fun for him.
I don't think Mario would hold up so well in the world of Contra. ... Well, at least until Mario gathered some of that ammunition. It would also be COOL if Mario put on ammunition belts like the people in Contra do. 🙂

The ones on the Commodore 128 were even more difficult than the Nintendo.
Neither SMB nor Contra were difficult. Ghosts n Goblins was brutal.

Ironically this game is harder with Contra characters even though they have guns. The levels are designed with Mario's athletic physics in mind. The Contra characters are not as fast, athletic, and agile as Mario.

IIRC "R" powerup makes your current weapon shoot faster. Only no effect if your weapon is "L".

Its effect is like Mario's starman.
I don't get R. M already has a ridiculous rate of fire, and the other weapons are all semi-auto. Right? How would an RPM upgrade be noticed? Is there a default limit regardless of how fast you tap the button?
@@nthgth yes. 4 bullets at a time for the standard Gun. The speed of the bullets are also Increased.

I seriously had this idea back in the day. I was hoping some company would release a "game genie" type device that would let you play crossovers like this. It never happened. But, if you can find any of my childhood friends, they'll back me up.
