I just got back from a gig tonight where Steve Hughes was supporting Reginald D Hunter in Maidstone, Kent, UK. He was totally brilliant. Completely brilliant. Obviously not as toned down as this clip from BBC TV. There were hints of the late great Bill Hicks in his act. Loved it to bits. Cant wait to see more of him. Fantastic.
0:28 think the "Bjork's been doing rituals..." reference to the flights being grounded in Europe due to volcanic ash from Iceland risking air travel, went right over most of their heads.
I was stranded in the UK a few days because of that. I knew exactly what he meant immediately. Probably was doubly so to those who live in the country effected. It’s possible Trent was correct and it just wasn’t very funny.
@@negativeindustrial I find that very funny... but only since getting the explanation. You can't get ALL references all the time, so nothing to be ashamed off if it went over your head; it's normal. Often if we don't laugh at a reference joke, it's because we're a little embarrassed about our lack of knowledge on the subject.... isn't it?
I’m Irish and it was crazy when we found out about the smoking ban. Madness, altogether the last weekend before the ban, now that was carnage. In the pubs
he is just a great comedian, I love hicks but ive never made a connection between them, they are just both great comics that speak their mind and push things a bit, carlin was same but carlin and hicks arnt similar.
True enough. Although to be fair, I'd watched more than a couple dozen videos and yet mowing Ireland was new to me... Hence your "most" of his routine bit. True enough.
I'm an American and I've been to several other countries. He is absolutely correct. It's a bit of a mind screw to visit a country the size of some cities in my homeland.
Man I know how he feels, I am so sick of our government legislating for every damn potential threat to the human race. The road toll, the road toll! The road toll hovers around the same figure every year which suggests that for a population of this size that we can expect that level of fatality on the road. We are never going to stop people from dying on the roads so stop legislating and driving everyone nuts!
I live in Ireland and was out that night. That he smoking ban came in to enforcement. I was at the Super furry animals gig in the Olympia Theater then went to a pub . at 00.00 they removed all the ashtrays but said smoking outside was optional till tomorrow.
They generally have for example ..... 200 jokes & do 60 - 70 a set so if you see the same comedian a few times you will hear jokes you have previously ...... until they start 100s of dollars per ticket or get a Netflix special / DVD deal .
I find its just the big cities that are bad everyone is in a rush and very impatient. Whereas smaller cities they aint so bad. I grew up in townsville worked 2 weeks in Sydney for work. after that 2 weeks i vowed never to drive in Sydney again.
the driving part was my favourite. livin' near NYC sucks with driving. i always said, i wish i had a car made of rubber so i could smash into everyone and just bounce around them. can't freakin' wait to get outta NY
yeah, they've got laws about smoking in pubs and restaurants in romania too but the owner chooses what kind of establishment it is, for smokers or non smokers and they state that at the entrance. i think 5% of the establishments in this country are for non smokers. yay!
you can't drink in the 1 building it was made specifically for it... maybe those law makers should get high on their government offices and make stupid laws like that one

Come back Steve, you've been dormant for too long, we miss you!
Steve is a legend. Hung out drinking with this man, many a night in Dublin
He’s been t total for a lot of years
@@purtlemoirrey1161 He could have drunk non alcoholic drinks as people don`t always drink alcohol. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

And you felt the need to tell the world you got it!
I thought he said York lol which is still confusing lol
Think that one passed the audience by?
I love Steve Hughes. He reminds me of Saruman from Lord of the Rings
I'd like to see them switch places, have Saruman do a stand up show in Sydney whilst Steve gets to be in Lord of the Rings as a wizard.
"In pubs...?? WE LIVE IN FOOKIN PUBS MATE!!!"
"oh, time's up.."
haha that ending caught me off guard
This bloke is bloody brilliant! 😎👍
I’m Irish and it was crazy when we found out about the smoking ban. Madness, altogether the last weekend before the ban, now that was carnage. In the pubs
LOVE this guy! Wish i could see him live
I have. He was wonderful.
This man is a legend !
I tried to get pissed at the bank, they went MENTAL! Hahahahahahaaaa
anybody else get a slight Bill Hicks element with this guy. Not just the political theme, but the relaxed easy flowing style of his routine etc.
Yeah hes not copying him tough, its pretty hard to top Bill hicks but hes not copying him.
at least steve hughes doesnt growl into the mike like bill does.........only thing that makes bill annoying as fuck
smidget whittington ^ I agree, he's like a George Carlin but more mellow in various ways and shows grievances in other ways.
yeah

Shame that after 3 or 4 videos you know most of his routine because this bloke is very good

Thinks the same things :)
@@ramimoorea1990 I have to say that I too, do agree.
Good jokes are like good songs, you want to hear them over and over.
i am from belgium and i saw him live awesome show
I'm an American and I've been to several other countries. He is absolutely correct. It's a bit of a mind screw to visit a country the size of some cities in my homeland.
He always has a beer on stage. What a true Aussie

Such an intelligent comedian, nice one Steve from Liverpool uk
Genius comedy, this. His delivery is immaculate.
I live in Ireland and was out that night. That he smoking ban came in to enforcement. I was at the Super furry animals gig in the Olympia Theater then went to a pub . at 00.00 they removed all the ashtrays but said smoking outside was optional till tomorrow.
george carlin would be proud.GIVE MORE TIME TO THIS LEGEND
You sir know your comedy

Steve did it better.
That hey hey it’s Saturday joke aged well 😂
I'm from Norway and I still get all the jokes.
Steve Hughes #1AussieComedian+Legend 🍻
27 tons of fuckin' steel, mate.
I've never seen Steve with his hair pulled back - looks cool! Thank you for posting :-)
there's blokes in Aus. that could mow Ireland... LOL!!
your point is?
They could if they were not such a lazy shower of bastards
@@BigBalls-jd5jf Hey dickhead, I could mow Ireland... Go and lay down in the middle and I'll be there after lunch 🤣
Absolutely love him
had to pause at 9 minutes just to recompose myself... this guy is so funny
Im surprised i hadn't heard of him before, great work! 😂
My favorite comedian. Hails from America!
Brilliant as always.
His deliverence is fantastic.
so..you are not allowed to get drunk in australian pubs? :s
comedians dont make an entire new routine for each audience. They tour one routine for a while then make a new one
Thats cos comedians dont usually release the same material twice, they all do it live
Wal Leece I don’t think many of his stuff is on UA-cam. I also heard he had a mental breakdown and didn’t tour for a while.
Then he should be capable of perfecting it to a certain extent...just sounds like he pulls everything out of his ass
His hammersmith odeon

Times up walks off😂😂that went fast actually. He must be good
screaming for vengeance!!!! what a guy!!!
Perfect delivery, perfect end. Great.
i need more fresh stuff from him. did he quit?
Best closer EVER 😂
This guys is awesome..
Hilarious, as always, Steve.
Screaming For Vengeance!!!!
wow he's one amazing comedian, like an ozzie bill hicks but with knowledge of the world. genius!
really wish he would tour
Realizing the video quality!
Seeing it's over 9 minutes long!
Thinking: "This gon' be good!
love the ending.
The speed limits are so mind bending ,never know which speed your meant to be doing
He so reminds me of bill hicks and George carlin, they are all amazing!
Brilliant!
@DubstepOverdose He's touring right now mate, check out live at the apollo december 2011, you won't be disappointed either, as good as ever
hes touring jan and feb 2012 in the uk
Many complain about the driving here in Thailand but personally I find it much better than back in Australia.
I find its just the big cities that are bad everyone is in a rush and very impatient. Whereas smaller cities they aint so bad. I grew up in townsville worked 2 weeks in Sydney for work. after that 2 weeks i vowed never to drive in Sydney again.
@0:19 um, Sydney CF in front of us and you have to say from here? WTF
best ending to a gig ever, oh times up
best ending of a comedy routine ever!
Hard case man🕺🏼🥇
Steve is hysterical! but I still maintain, that the smoking ban was the best thing to happen... EVER!!!
What a great shirt
Awesome Screaming for Vengeance shirt.
Wait, did Danny Bhoy steal this joke?!
Pubs?!
But we live in pubs!
R.I.P. Smoking in pubs. Oh how I miss you...
Love Steve Hughes, but I'd like to hear new material. Still makes me laugh though!
Seen him live last year when he was supporting Reginald D Hunter.... They were fucking awesome
What a finish!
the ending is the best
Epic shirt! Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance.
@CyanideSovereign
The guy's name is Gaahl.
He doesn't get a cut of your broadband bill, he owes you nothing.
the driving part was my favourite. livin' near NYC sucks with driving. i always said, i wish i had a car made of rubber so i could smash into everyone and just bounce around them. can't freakin' wait to get outta NY
If there's no cars coming, cross the fucking road. I don't know why that gets me every time.
what are you made of, flesh
whats the truck made of, 20 tonnes of fucking steel
4:45 I am sorry to inform you Mr.Hughes, but the song proved too long in this age of info bites. The ones who got there were lucky.
yeah, they've got laws about smoking in pubs and restaurants in romania too but the owner chooses what kind of establishment it is, for smokers or non smokers and they state that at the entrance. i think 5% of the establishments in this country are for non smokers. yay!
best exit
WTF is it with the 3 hour advertisements?
@GuidoOnWeels I know!
@dayiiv He's also wearing a Judas Priest shirt, one of the most defining bands in Heavy Metal. The singer of which is...bald. :-P
I'm from Sweden and I get them all ._.
@SiN3mOn Why did the little kid cross the road? Because there's not cars coming.
Best end ever xD
You can still smoke in pubs in Germany :)
I've tried to get pissed at the bank. they went mental"
It really is that bad , driving I Australia does suck. Try driving in Melbourne so many varying speed limits in half a Kilometre
i found a pen from a bank in my coat pocket today!
They go on tour, just like musicians, musos play set lists every night and every year or so they write some new songs. Same with comedians.
might as well watch the one where hes onthe roadshow...
Steve is fucking hilarious
I never new Ghaal was also an Australian comedian!
Ha!
Do you complain when bands play the same songs live more than once too?
"War is carnage, this is just a dickhead mate!"
Its the pub mate
"fuck ya, I'l do Scottland tamorra"
3rd post? And it's not a joke.
Looks like across between George Carlin and Frank Zappa, shit-talks like Bill Hicks, and rocking a Screaming For Vengeance shirt. Awesome.
classic ending !
you can't drink in the 1 building it was made specifically for it... maybe those law makers should get high on their government offices and make stupid laws like that one
