I believe we become more passive and inert as we grow older because of the way the schooling system and our society is set up. As babies and infants we are figuring things out actively, but because of how school emphasizes sitting and learning things through our minds and not through our bodies, the emphasis is switched and we stay in our minds.
I think one factor is biological, learning when you are young and then applying those learned skills when you are older is a good strategy, so it was genetically selected for. On the other hand, you have teachers who get *annoyed* if you ask them what the stuff they are teaching is useful for. They certainly aren't helping.
Yes, I agree that the movement away from movement that school installs in us as children is a huge contributor to sedentary lifestyle problem in adulthood. Seems like it should be obvious but somehow we are still missing it.

Have to do an exam on this book awesome . I am driven to motivate myself with 3rd drive.
It's a bit strange, i have the book on my to-read list since in 2012 ( i was busy with S. Covey), at that time people did not talk about motivation at work; as we were still in recession, and people were afraid losing their jobs.
I actually printed the Drive animation on A3, and stuck it to the wall at the entrance of our department; so people could see it leaving the office space, perhaps it would spark a conversation / ideas, but i was met with jokes and a lot of ehum and non-understanding.
I am quite surprised that you have to write about it, as 8 years later i still meet with managers in C-level and higher still joking and handing me odd remarks about motivation - people still believe in high pay, stick and carrot, politics, fear, pressure and affirmations to be used even in IT ( where you need high cognitive skills).
I guess it has to do , with the wave of criticism of this book, and C- level managers just reading the outlines, and not reading the book, or go to their ' i know it better' mentality.

Nothing anymore mostly just help other people but my life seems like more trouble than it’s worth. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Everything have experienceexperienced tells me to expect nothing so I do.

What frustrates me is this notion of how we work to live. I see people stressed out because they make a deal with the devil, they are not there because they want to be but because they have to and if they don't they lost security. The point of life from this perspective looks hopeless. All the schooling we do is one big lie because no one tells you this,you just have a vague notion the stuff you do has a value for helping get work someday. But I don't see this changing if anything HR is on the side of the boss, being about trying to keep coming up with new ways to get more out of people, for less to demonstrate their value.

there's an easy fix to that - let world war 3 unleash so our basic needs be our center of attention again and no one will talk again about autonomy or purpose again but about survival and trying to find out where our next meal is coming from.

the problem I am alluding to is that when we feel safe we tend to take things for granted and behave with a terrible sense of entitlement.
suddenly we start talking about things like gender pronouns, what is politically correct, mental health, etc.
This is a poorly put together presentation. This could have been edited to show what is happening on the presentation screen. I feel like he feels superior to everyone and is talking down to everyone.

I didn't get it as him making fun of anyone. I took it as him showing an example of intrinsic/extrinsic motivation..
