Glad to see that classifying gold pan, in mine, I drilled two small holes about where I hold them so I can clip them together, when I grab my gold pan I now grab my classifier, won't see me in the field without a classifier anymore 😂
It occurs to me that I might have a decent spot to check out. Chinese miners in the 1800's spent a couple decades working placer on a bench of flood sands along the Columbia River. I think a friend's folks' ranch covers that area, or if not similar bench material just up stream. If I bring bourbon, I can probably even borrow a backhoe...... Have to avoid the federal line though, they get a little pissy about prospecting along the river! Great vid. The strata and cobbles sorta rang the old bell and new pictures appeared.

Found a rich pocket in a drift mine 30 years ago that averaged 1 pennyweight to a five gallon bucket. Got several ounces with just a pan, including a one pennyweight nugget.
And Jeff when you bring the hammer drill back with the Sierra blasters and find the motherload don't go blasting a bunch of holes in the junk layers to throw all us claim jumpers off your trail 😂

This "wonderful" Caliche Clay here in AZ. is NO JOKE AT ALL, HARDER THAN CONCRETE. I FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY TRYING TO DIG A TRENCH IN THE EARLY 90'S. Trickling water across for at least 8 hours and letting it leach Thru, enabled me to Finally open a shovelblade wide by 18" deep trench, for utilities. Man oh Man, 12 Labors Indeed, WISHED I HAD AND COULD HAVE USED EXPLOSIVES BUT, THE CITY KINDA FROWNS ON SUCH.
Merry Christmas Jeff, and I have to sit on the bed sometimes to put my pants on and I never forget to dress b 4 I go outside...Great panning there...And terrific info...I use to hide my diggings with tree limbs and people would know that and claim jump me, so I started to use a hand held GPS to make the spot....Just got to be more crafty I've learned...oh! one more, isn't that the 'Blue Berry Bump' ?

I’m in Quartzite. Any advice where to go? From South Dakota so totally inexperienced. Bought a metal detector and have gold pans and screens etc. Hoping just to find a few tiny flakes to put in a vial around my neck. 😊
Nothing to add plenty of stories. Oh that little tiny gold. Is what I first found. Thing is don't get discouraged if your pan keeps that tiny stuff your technique is working you can pan gold. It's a reward
