Midwestern Fisherman... While I have typically waded small creeks & rivers for brook and brown trout, I have grown to absolutely love pike fishing - theres something about the way they attack... Thanks so much for sharing your adventure Jon!
You May or May not see this but: pre spawn and post spawn pike fishing is the main goal for me in Scandinavia. Dont know if your trip to sweden gave you some insight, but try the “Buster Jerk” glide baits and work Them real good. Especially the “Dirty roach” or “Black pike” are insane colors
it would be great if you could take the time to explain to us what lb test line you have for your main line and leader. Could help educate us on successful rig setups
You have got to go to Nungesser Lake, Ontario Canada. You can catch 36" + northern like nothing, caught a 48"er my first day up there. Best Norther and walter fishing I have ever had!
Please come fish mount desert island. I spend the summers here and have only caught 2 stripers on the island after 80+ land based trips over the last 2 years. I’ve caught one 45in and a 27in. I would love to link up and show you some spots and scout the island!
Keep up the pike fishing and go for musky too! You should go to alum creek lake spillway in ohio, there are tons of musky and you can practically sight fish for them!
The crappie didn’t surprise me. I’m in Wisconsin and when I’m trolling cranks for some ‘eyes I’ll catch crappies here and there even with bigger cranks. Great video. Would love to see you collab with Today’s Angler again
DUDE!!! THANK YOU!! Nobody gives Northern the respect they deserve. They are an amazing fish to battle AND fry unlike Bass… And they are important to manage and keep as well to keep other fish thriving. They are the ultimate “keeper” fisherman’s friend! (Just don’t fish them out plz.)
@@AdamL-mh4ur Do your research before commenting. Maine Dept. of Fisheries: " When northern pike were introduced into this system, they quickly went to the top of the food chain and caused a crash of the forage base and then the landlocked salmon themselves. Northern pike not only attacked the salmon but also ate their primary food source: rainbow smelts. By 2015, the there were so few surviving salmon, it was no longer possible to fish for them. So now we basically have to manage around these fish. We don't want to see them spread to especially northern Maine because of all those intact native trout fisheries that we have up there. But really the only tool we have is education and outreach to try to explain to folks, you know, the dangers of introductions of these fishes. There really is no silver bullet to stop this."
If you’re interested in catching big smallies and big pike head north to my hometown and fish Mattawamkeag Lake or Pleasant Pond. Great fishing up there.
Love seeing the pike content!! Really appreciate how you guys showed the realistic side of pike fishing - they’re aggressive but they ain’t so easy to find and catch!! Never stop boys!
Pike are really good to eat as you briefly mentioned. I was on a trip in Canada that they would fly you to a new lake everyday and you had to catch your shore lunch. We caught some Walleye and Pike, cooked them up and I genuinely thought the Pike was better. I also caught my PB up there....about 52in. It was an outstanding fishing trip.
Great video again! Thats a good size fish. Here in the Netherlands we catch 30 inch pike from ditches the same depth or sometimes even shallower! You should defenitly do a Europe Never Stop Tour. Catching 45+ inch pike and 20 inch red perch!
Very nice pike and cool video ! I use big live baits(15 to 20 cm) to catch them. My pb is 50 inches (130 cm ) 3/0 hook on 19lb wire leader, swivel ,10 gr pike bobber ,5gr lead weigt and 35/100 mono line is my favorite setup.
Great! I would try just a bare \ large spoon with 1 treble on the end. 90% of the trikes happened as the spoon slowly drops to the bottom. The other 10% is when I wait 10 seconds and starts reeling in.
Your Maine content is the best!! I’ll be headed up to the County in October to head into camp. Your Maine content makes me happy but makes me miss home even more.
as a fin who fishes pikes all day this is so fun to watch and for us those pikes are quite small like we got pikes around 1-21kg so u can imagine what kinda beasts we have in europe but hey thats so cool to see that there is people who love to fish pike aswell and what is even cooler is on my favourite channel
Don't forget where you started; why don't you come back to the Midwest to give some of the lakes, reservoirs and rivers some love? The Fox river waterway system, Lakes Geneva, Winnebago and others or even Three Oaks Recreation area. It would be great to see you give some light to these places.
Dude i went up to fish the chain o lakes for the first time and it was terrible. So many pleasure boaters. I assume its better in the spring/fall when its chillier
I like the video, we have world class pike up here, my pb is 28lbs 2oz. My measurement stick wasn’t big enough to get one. Please make more pike videos! That’s one of my main fish.
Y'all situated further north then I am here in Southern Ontario. Maine fishing is probably equivalent to Northern Ontario. Solid videos, keep em coming.
Truly special fish, very nice to see you catching them. The last three pike that have hit my topwater lures have all gone fully airborne on the initial strike as if they are auditioning for a Jaws sequel or something.
I was flipping a spinner bait alongside docks for bass and pike. Flip it on the rocks then twitch it into the water and reel. Came up to a dock with a kid swimming on one side so I flipped the other side... had a 5 pound pike smash it and go airborne in less than 2' of water. That poor kids eyes got huge and he walked on water getting out of the lake LOL I filleted the fish and gave it to him and said here is revenge, you get to eat him! That put a smile on his face! I caught 3 more from 5 to10 pounds that I kept for eating, and a bunch of little ones I put back... was a fun afternoon of good fishing. Took the kid out fishing the next day(his parents were friends), trolling the weeds for pike with live bait. He had a ball catching 2 to 3 pounders... I got a couple more eaters for the freezer filling my limit until I ate one of them! Also got him on some walleye out on the flats. He took home limits of fish to feed his family and he was all smiles showing off to his parents(they don't fish). I told them I would clean them and told them how to do a simple salt, pepper, flour breading, fry in 50/50 butter/oil... they started learning to fish after that! Kid was so proud that he fed his entire family and had another meal if fish in the freezer!
Awesome video! I believe this lake is relatively close to where I live! Never caught a pike or musky but would love to! Tights lines man, love your content!
Before I clicked on the vid I was thinking you guys should go to messo then I was like wait a minute you guys are there😂. You should definitely try north again.
I love you Jon ❤️ crazy watching u grow up and get a family over UA-cam, I started watching when you were around my age and it’s crazy to see how far you came
As a minnesotan i can say that s giant spoon or something shiny that makes noise will catch you some northern. I also wouldnt fish a topwater lure for northern just cause they suck at hitting topwater lures. Yes you can get them on a whopper plopper, frog, walking type bait, but they go absolutely crazy for a good ol spoon. I hope this helps someone and good luck on the next trip!😁
Interesting that Northern Pike are considered " invasive". I looked at a map of the natural range of Northern Pike and it shows Maine is well within Their Natural Range. Is this a case where these Fish were introduced many years ago and the particular map, I looked at was mistaken?
I've been outta the fishing video game for a while and I started watching jon in his early days pond hopping with Peric. There just aren't many that compare to jon b roll
Please make more pike and musky videos they are so fun to watch. Keep fishing never stop.
Yes sir 💪🏼👍🏼
Yup more Muskie fishing!!
Gotta click right away when you see a Maine John b video

New video idea: try out vintage lures, especially a pull string minnow. Never stop brother!
More pike content! We love them in Sweden so it’s interesting seeing how they look and act in America 😊

mustache looking real good. must be why the fish bit
I grew out my stache and started catching bigger fish, coincidence I think not!
dad stache
Hit the bucktails for the pike/musk...always done well for me.

They shouldn't be there and are wreaking havoc on native species.
I love Northern!! They put up gnarly fights and they are beautiful

Can’t beat pike man! They put up great fights! That’s insane that you caught the tagged bass! Thank you for proving catch and release works
When you do a figure 8 or a loop, move it a little quicker on the turns. Also, don't be afraid to vary the depth.
We caught a bunch of monster crappie on that lake this winter ice fishing.
It’s crazy I remember watchin that video where you tagged that bass last year! Super cool to catch and release and catch the same big bass!!
Get yourself on a plane ✈️ Come to Scotland 🏴 Pike fishing is insane over here, i’d happily show you guys 🎣
Great Sacandaga Lake in upstate New York has some monster pike which get over 50". You should totally hit that on your way back south
