As a father of 5 I have witnessed my wife give birth twice at a hospital with epidural and three times at a midwifery birth center in the water. Our last was born only a few months ago, and she swears it was her best birth and best recovery. I’m happy to see that water birth is starting to become more of an option for other Moms and their babies.
When I had kids, they made you lie in bed and u were only allowed a few ice chips, they didn't care if u were hydrated or not. I'm glad things have changed

How is that even acceptable? I had a home birth and was drinking water every few minutes while pushing i was so exhausted! I'm so glad for my home birth. I was able to do what I wanted and get into any position that was comfortable. Hospital horror stories made me push for home birth.
Gotta say, I had both my kids at home in a birthing pool and with a midwife and I wouldn't change it for anything. 8 hours with my first, 4 hours with my second. The water was so soothing to me, the warmth was everything. And being able to move around! Oh and we paid for it out of pocket, only $2k for each kid. That was all 9 months care, and a few postpartum visits. Beats the hospital any day for price. And that was without insurance, for those wondering about that.
Yeah but I’m just going to throw it out there, if anything did go wrong during your births (and you can have a perfectly healthy pregnancy and still have something go horribly wrong during birth), you would’ve been shit out of luck. Options like this are wonderful since it allows women to be in control of their births while also having medical care in dire situations
@@yin4296 Very true, and it's always a concern. But, for some it's a gamble some are willing to take. And I feel like most of the time with some monitoring and the proper people, most problems can be detected before one or baby is in dire straits. It's not for everyone, but it is a choice that I think one can consider.

@@yin4296 midwives are trained for emergency and there are always back up plans put in place. They know when things aren’t looking safe and when to bring you to a hospital. Birth isn’t something to fear and most “emergencies” hospitals use as an excuse for c sections aren’t actual emergencies.
Pretty sure it's an extra digit after the hospital stay plus the extra $500 anytime someone who works for the hospital has to touch mom or baby. *irritated American noises*
Omg I am a shower girl and dislike baths, but I was in that bath and it was the most comfortable I had been in days at that point. My partner knowing I like showers asked if I wanted it and I did nod but omg the noise and the feeling made me cringe and I screamed at him to stop. I also didn't want people touching me but he had to help stop me from falling asleep in the tub, and if I did snooze he was keeping me from drowning. I would wake up so mad at him hahahaha Poor man, he's still the most amazing person in my life (after the kids hehe)

@@kennyc.9557 I just feel like if I had that job I'd be so depressed by witnessing trauma of the mothers, bad treatment from other medical staff to the mothers and from their husband's and boyfriends cause I've heard a lot of bad stories about that.... of course it sounds like an amazing and fulfilling job but I don't know if I'd be able to handle seeing someone go through stuff like that 😢 especially seeing nurses tell stories of stuff the partners have said to demean the mothers pain and ask for an extra husband stitch I'd be so angry lol

Shhhhhh*t my L&D nurse said "theres the tub, help yourself" and left!! She refused to come back to "help" until I agreed to the epidural saying she couldn't help me until I was willing to help myself. I caved and got the epidural 😞
This L&D nurse here seems above average for sure for the U.S.! She seems amazing! And I’m in the maternal and child health field so I hear womens’ birth stories and experiences all the time. And I also unfortunately didn’t have any helpful or nice nurses throughout my 39 hour induction😅
i dont think enough people express gratitude for what you do, and I imagine that your work requires a lot of knowledge and preparation. i think I speak on behalf of everybody when I say that i am grateful for you helping deliver so many babies! thank you for all it is you do, no matter how demanding 😊
My labor nurse/nurses delivered my child after being with me all day and doing their other duties. It's a hard an amazing job. I really appreciate everything they did to help me.
I live in Massachusetts and opted for an unmedicated home water birth for my first 6 months ago. After doing research I learned that Massachusetts will not allow you to give birth in water in a hospital setting - you can only labor in water. When the pushing stage comes they make you get out. And that's if you're lucky enough to find a hospital and/or score a room with one of those large tubs. There is one birth center here that allows for water births, but I opted to just stay home and it was wonderful.
I love watching ur videos and the facility you work at is amazing. The hospital where I gave birth barely had anything. I’m so glad the ladies have such a caring person in their corner during these moments ❤

I originally wanted a water birth and unlike most women, I was actually super uncomfortable in the tub. I could not get comfortable, I lasted 10 minutes, thank goodness I had an absolutely amazing nurse who appreciated my terrible humor and did not seem to mind at all that she set it all up and basically immediately change my mind. I was much more comfortable walking around and laying on my side in a bed.
I mean, it's not that dumb. Nonbinary AFAB people, intersex people, and trans men can all get pregnant/give birth. It's just normally women so that tends to be what gender is associated with births
I know you guys probably sanitize the hell out of it but I can't get over the fact that other women have also given birth in that tub....I couldn't do it 🙃

I had a water birth and my midwife didn't monitored anything. She just kinda watched me and made me conformable. I preferred it that way. Plus if you get checked constantly vaginally during labor you can risk bacteria getting into the birth chanel and it could cause an infection.
And when I try to tell people, "water will drown the baby that's so unsafe" Meanwhile the baby has been in water for 9 months and then they struggle with horrendous land birth fighting gravity in a bed on their back.
Good to see things have improved in the last 12 years. My nurse pointed at the tub and said 'there you go' and left, and nobody was allowed anything by mouth, I just had an IV for the three days of labor.
Dang I worked as an assistant for women having water births in the villages in Bali and we didn't have nearly that much fancy stuff. I can't believe how much tech and stuff has been made the last 15 years!
Where is this? Not fair. South Carolina hospitals don't allow water births and the state closed down the only birthing center here. I wanted a water birth so badly, but all 3 happened in a bed. They wouldn't even let me birth in a squat. You have to get on the stupid bed, even though it makes contractions and transition 1000x worse. I almost couldn't make myself get on the bed the last time because it instantly increases the pain.
Don’t have any children yet but I think I’ll go with this option in the future. Seems a lot more comfortable than lying on a bed in pain pushing in an awkward position. I assume the warm water would be a lot more relaxing & comforting which would help you manage pain better

I’ve been looking into birthing centers as an option and they encourage you to eat snacks and drink lots of water.

So many hospitals don't even offer that. Even if they did, they're ridiculous standard of care crap keeps mom from fully enjoying it anyways.

Good to see things have improved in the last 12 years. My nurse pointed at the tub and said 'there you go' and left, and nobody was allowed anything by mouth, I just had an IV for the three days of labor.

Dang I worked as an assistant for women having water births in the villages in Bali and we didn't have nearly that much fancy stuff. I can't believe how much tech and stuff has been made the last 15 years!

Where is this? Not fair. South Carolina hospitals don't allow water births and the state closed down the only birthing center here. I wanted a water birth so badly, but all 3 happened in a bed. They wouldn't even let me birth in a squat. You have to get on the stupid bed, even though it makes contractions and transition 1000x worse. I almost couldn't make myself get on the bed the last time because it instantly increases the pain.

My mother wanted to give birth to me like this, but the nurses told her she would have to have an enema while in labor. She declined lol.
Don’t have any children yet but I think I’ll go with this option in the future. Seems a lot more comfortable than lying on a bed in pain pushing in an awkward position. I assume the warm water would be a lot more relaxing & comforting which would help you manage pain better

i guess i always associated water births with home births. the idea of a clinic/hospital water birth seems nice.
I didnt even realize that water birth was an option in some hospitals. I thought it was only a thing with home births.

my mom birthed me in the bath, she said the water is very soothing and much more relaxing, but idk the health benefits
