      well most anime are 2D TV shows and this is a movie level production so the point is null really, for a movie level production its not blowing me away

      @@Stevem uhh most anime includes anime movies though so my point absolutely stands. As you weren't blown away by it's movie production, I was blown away by how much better it looks than most anime out nowadays. Take the final Gintama movie for instance. Very good animation but also pretty underwhelming with it's presentation.

    • @Stevem

      @@swiggydswirl330the majority of anime are tv productions, theatrical original movies are like 10-20% of what comes out a year. "most anime" is a nebulous term, but in terms of production id split them. Believe me if you saw the whole movie i cant say youd be as impressed, but that depends what is "better" too the art direction, colours, the animation etc
      I dont watch gintama movies but i really see how they're representation of anime movies as a whole, biggest movies this year are like hathaway and eva 4.0

      @@Stevem animation is animation, I don't know why lumping in anime movies with "most anime" is vague since it is still well into the umbrella term of "anime" and makes up for a lot of popularity when compared to many tv anime shows but I digress. Considering that, it still looks far more impressive than most anime out nowadays (imo)

    I was not aware that 4c made another movie after children of the sea, I always assumed it nearly bankrupted them like redline and they were taking a break. Speaking of that though, I once read somewhere that a bunch of people weren't paid, but then after the lawsuit, they were. Both their full salary, and over 2.8 million yen in overtime. I can't seem to find that info anymore though, so I don't know if it was true. Cg anime is blossoming though, and thankfully it appears to want to share the world with 2d. Land of the Lustrous, dorohedoro, tron uprising, and lupin III: the first are all incredible, some even being my favorites. Good cg anime doesn't happen often though I'm afraid.

    • @Stevem

      @@Stevem so a poor choice of words on my part, I should've said "lost significant money" instead. I actually had already watched the video, its where I learned once and for all that Koike wasn't fired or blacklisted. But I was saying that redline likely lead to the ntv buyout, as well as Maruyama leaving. But I just found out where I learned the lawsuit information, it was on Children of the seas Wikipedia page. However, it is not there anymore. This leads me to believe that it likely wasn't true, and the article in question is correct. Either way, 4c still withheld payment.
      Have you watched those 4 cg anime though?

    • @Stevem
      @Stevem  2 роки тому +2

      @@stheteller7470 lost significant money is also not easy to prove, the only thing proven was that madhouse had a poor quarter in 2010 while producing more stuff then they ever had before, the real cost of redline has never been disclosed but an inside source told me it was less than youd think, redlines producer writer has also said the project was a cult hit a decade later, maruyama states he left because of the size of the company and he left two years after the film was finished. The articles in question were reported by ANN on the childrens of the sea's abuses.

      @stheteller7470 2 роки тому +1

      @@Stevem Yes, the Ann articles were the ones I was speaking of being correct. Unfortunately, my likely false information from Wikipedia can't be proved to have been there because wayback machine isn't as good as people have told me. If I remember correctly, I believe someone said that redline was around 22 million. So still no Princess kaguya levels of expensive. Those 4 anime though, I highly recommend each of them. Land of the Lustrous and Dorohedoro in particular I think are legitimate masterpieces.

    • @Stevem
      @Stevem  2 роки тому +3

      @@stheteller7470 nopeeee redline did not cost that much theres no cited source for the official cost, ive removed uncited budgets from its wiki page before, 22 million would make it almost as expensive as steamboy which at time was one of the most expensive anime movies ever made, madhouse were infamous for keeping costs down because they had very talented salary staff to rely on and while redline was in production for 7 years only three were actually staffed with animators (inhouse)

    Unrelated to the video topic specifically, but with all this talk of 3d animation in anime I would really like to hear your perspective on Kengan Ashura as it's a show I've enjoyed watching quite a bit. I feel that its usage of 3d really serves to elevate the show and adds a level of dynamism and intensity to the fight scenes that would be very difficult for traditional animation to achieve without the likes of Masaaki Yuasa.
