This is just so so sad. People need to realise how utterly destructive chronic alcoholism can be. There are some who found it hard to sympathise with George after he was given a new liver, but there's no doubt he tried very hard but just couldn't beat it. I always remember Calum being in floods of tears during his speech, and that was so heartbreaking to watch. I'm a Liverpool fan, but George's genius was unique, and everyone should be thankful of the great gift he was given. RIP George x
This is truly a sad occasion filled with genuine feeling from people who like myself never personally knew George but I do know that he gave very generously of his time to charitable causes to help them raise money. Everyone is aware of the " Sunday paper stories " but if you delve further there are so many instances of when George was utterly selfless and considerate towards people and he didn't need to put himself out, he didn't have to bother but he did. Such a gentleman. I've read that alcoholism may be something that some people are unfortunately susceptible to without them realising it and, if true, was George one of those people. Better just to remember him as a human being who had frailties but deep down was a good guy.
i remember watching him play for MUFC, he was like a will'o'the'wisp with the ball sticking to his feet, the opposition had no answer, such a sad loss....
I remember watching this on the day. I also remember the amazing tribute that was laid by fans around the world on Sir Matt Busby Way. His amazing talent lives on in many United fans hearts and minds.
Yes: it is Brian Kennedy ... and George Best died on the 25th November 2005. All I wanted as a budding winger and Man U tragic was a pair of those boots!! Our local hometown hero back then was Don Rogers ... another winger and a talent in his own right, (as Arsenal got to find out lol), ... but Best played a game all of his own ... the world game continues to produce legends, as I'm sure it always will .. but none will ever again have such an impact on the game as Best did in 1963. So: for me .. a drink or several for George Best this 25th November 2015.
this is so moving Brian is a Catholic showing total respect to George.. and his family and displaying all the sectarian hate in Northern Ireland was pathetic and unnecessary
George wasn't the greatest footballer ever,he was a fine footballer in his time..no doubt about it. What he was,was interesting listening, and his private life, everyone wanted to know about.First celebrity footballer, and yet I could see his humbility without booze.May god have mercy on his soul, may he rest in eternal peace.
I loved him and yes I cried. The greatest alongside maradona. To me maradona is Raphael and George Michelangelo of football. Both died around 60 drink and drugs. Yes even gods of football are flawed. I salute u both.
Im a lifelong Liverpool fan who appreciates the genius of George Best RIP
Sung from the heart by Brian Kennedy, beautiful tribute.
