I'm really hoping that the devs will use EoD to reintroduce the dwarves. Although I realize that it's a long shot, imagine them as a playable race... How fantastic that would be. "Many years ago, far to the south in Cantha, relics of a mysterious race, possibly an offshoot of the Deldrimor dwarves, were uncovered in the Aurios Mines of the Jade Sea. This is the only indication of any dwarven presence on the southern continent, and remains unexplained to this day."

  • @Kossage

Thanks for the insightful video as always! Here's my speculation regarding the fate of the human homeworld and Doern's kingdom in the planet Tyria (Thyria) as the two are kinda connected in the timeline as a consequence of the other.
    1) The potential fate of the human homeworld
1.1) First, let's look at what the Orrian history scrolls (which are admittedly lacking in information and also biased based on human religious views/myths so we should take them with a grain of salt):
1.1.1) Dwayna: "The first of the gods to step forth from the mists was Dwayna, goddess of air and life. She placed her pale foot on the stones of Arah, opened the gates, and brought humanity to the world. She chose Tyria and brought with her those who would make this world a paradise. As she had promised, Dwayna led her people to peace."
So, Dwayna led her people to peace, implying that wherever humanity came from was not peaceful. Thus potential conflict of some kind.
1.1.2) Balthazar: "Balthazar came in fire and wrath, carrying the head of his father and leading his fierce hounds, Temar and Tegon. He swept Orr with a cleansing flame. It was he who claimed Tyria for humanity; he who said the other races would be easy to defeat. It would not be the only time that the Master of War was wrong."
Balthazar was carrying the severed head of his father. While the newer PoF lore devs claimed that this was proof that Balthazar was always ruthless and never a good guy, we actually don't know the context of why he was carrying dad's head. Was it a grim war trophy or possibly done as an act of reverence for the fallen as some native tribes were known to do IRL with pieces of their fallen friends and enemies to gain their strength?
What's also interesting is the fact that the head of Balthy's dad was intact. Meanwhile, if we look at the deaths of the fallen god Abaddon and the former god Balthazar, we see their forms disintegrating upon their demise, leaving no physical vessel behind. So, does this mean that Balthy's dad was mortal since the head didn't disintegrate after he was beheaded? We know Menzies is Balthy's half-brother, so the brothers only shared one parent. If Balthy's dad was a mortal, it would then suggest that the mother might've been a goddess, and we'd see a kind of echo of the Dwayna and mortal sculptor (potentially Malchor based on the retroactive edits the writers did to the description in Grenth's DR statue from Malchor to Desmina) tragic romance there.
1.1.3) Melandru: "Next came the goddess of nature. Wise Melandru, oldest of them all, made of Orr a green and flowering expanse. She urged peace with the races already present on this world, but her advice was not heeded. When she saw destruction, she brought creation. Where she saw anger, she grew love. With this, Melandru prepared for a future she knew would be troubled."
Melandru was among the wisest of the gods, perhaps only surpassed by the princely Abaddon. She prepared for a future she knew would be troubled, but could it be that this insight was based on something she'd witnessed earlier somewhere, potentially in the human homeworld? Perhaps she didn't want past mistakes to be repeated now that they had entered Tyria.
1.1.4) Lyssa: "The two who are one, Issa and Lys, brought with her the hope and beauty of humanity. While the other gods focused on building Arah and beginning a new future, Lyssa gave them joy and helped them forget the past."
Maybe I'm misinterpreting this, but to me the grammar here leaves it ambiguous who "they" are in the context of the sentence. Did Lyssa help humanity forget the past, or the gods? Or both? Whoever the target of such an act were, the fact that they wanted to forget the past suggests some sort of tragic or horrific event. Why else would they want to forget what had happened? Perhaps something that happened on the human homeworld?
1.1.5) Abaddon: "Among them was Abaddon-once secret-keeper, now betrayer. How you have fallen from the glorious days of old. What passed beyond in the Mists, only you remember."
Lyssa helped "them" forget the past, but Abaddon still somehow remembered what had happened. Sadly we don't know what exactly he knew and if he acted upon this hidden knowledge to enact his plans. Still, it's a curious emphasis in the texts, suggesting that Abaddon knew more than he was letting on about what had happened back in the day.
    Source: wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Orrian_History_Scrolls
1.2) Second, if we look at the textures on the Harbinger of Woe who challenges us to tackle more dangerous encounters in fractal challenge modes, we notice that he has a pattern showing a planet, great destruction, and a void. If we swap the locations of textures 1 and 2 in the wiki's image gallery, we actually see a potential chronological progression in the images:
    a) the planet is oversaturated with what appears to be heavy concentrations of magic surrounding it
    b) the planet is torn in half in a cataclysm of epic proportions
    c) nothing remains afterwards except a deep void in a sea of stars, potentially suggesting that the extinction event wiped out the entire planet that thus fell into the void, leaving no trace of it behind
    Source: wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Harbinger_of_Woe
1.3) Devs have stated that there are no parallels per se between the Six Gods and the six Elder Dragons. But what if there's some connection?
We've seen that divine magic (both the "native" Tyrian divine magic such as Spirits of the Wild vs. Drakkar, and outside Tyria divine magic tied to the gods such as Eternal Flame or uncorruptable Exalted vs. dragon minions) counters dragon corruption, which might explain why a depowered Balthazar (if he still had a spark of divinity within him) was safely able to waltz into Primordus's lair without being eaten or corrupted by him. We know a single god dying (e.g. Abaddon) is enough to potentiall destroy two realms in the Mists (Realm of Torment and planet Thyria) while we require (or required until Dragonstorm) just three Elder Dragon deaths without replacements to likewise doom Thyria.
What if the reason for this discrepancy is that as god magic isn't native to Tyria, just one god dying is enough to upset the magical balance, while the same effect could happen if one Elder Dragon had died on the gods' homeworld due to the dragon likewise having foreign magic in that planet's ecosystem? What if the six gods were the balancers to their homeworld's The All like the six dragons are balancers to Thyria's the All?
If there was a war between gods (if Balthy carrying his dad's severed head is any indication) or some other catastrophe that led to excess magic (similar to the Dragonstorm or Abaddon death scenarios except there being no Kormir, Aurene or Joon dragonjade machine equivalent to contain and siphon the magic), it could've either overcharged the planet or reduced its magic level and thus torn it in half, forcing gods to take the remnants of humanity with them on a grand exodus to another habitable world. It would explain the clues in Orrian history scrolls about Lyssa helping "them" forget the past, Dwayna promising to bring her people to "peace", and Melandru preparing for a troubled future.
Interestingly Ogden and the Apostate state the following regarding what happens to Thyria's Antikytheria system of the All if the world is filled with too much or too little magic (from deaths of balancers or if one or more balancers eat too much magic without counters):
    > If you're not mistaken, this ancient tome was written by someone known as the Apostate. It appears to describe something similar to what you saw in your vision of the Eternal Alchemy.
    > The author calls it the Antikytheria, describing it as a cosmic mechanism made of many parts, all spinning around a central body known in ancient Krytan as Thyria.
    > Six large bodies orbit the world, existing in primal symbiosis. The energies move with the push and pull of positive and negative, ever in motion.
    > The Apostate says one thing that is especially troubling... "Should the energies become imbalanced, the world will tilt and all beings will fall off it into the void." It's probably a metaphor.
    Source: wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Map_of_the_All
    > Ogden Stonehealer: The gods expound on how Tyria's health is tied directly to them [the Elder Dragons]. This portion is somewhat abstract, however.
    > Ogden Stonehealer: There are varied theories on what it means, but I believe it refers to the natural balance of magic.
    > Ogden Stonehealer: Too much magic, and the world spins out of control. Too little, and it crumbles into darkness.
    Source: wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hidden_Arcana
More interestingly Aurene made a point to tell us in "The End" instance and the dragonflight in Season 4 that we can't just kill Kralkatorrik in the Mists or his magic will not return to Tyria and we doom the planet Thyria, thus our need to lure him first back to Tyria before finishing him off there. If the balancer analogue holds true for dragons and gods per the theory, if a god (or gods) of the previous generation was/were slain in the Mists rather than on humanity's homeworld, it would've had catastrophic consequences to the homeworld even if Balthazar or whoever had replaced the previous gods as the process of magic dissipation would've already happened and destroyed the planet.
So, with all that in mind, it's possible that there's no longer any homeworld that humanity (and Forgotten if they truly come from the same world as humans) could return to, and so gods need to find an entirely new planet to populate, hopefully without its version of six evil dragon-like balancers of the All.
In the next post in this thread, let's look at how Doern's kingdom might tie into this human exodus from the homeworld to planet Thyria.

Re: Inquest - apparently there was a scrapped plot in making Episode 2 Season 4 where Phlunt was to be revealed as the leader and had kidnapped Zojja, hence us not seeing her for ages . . . sadly dropped because Taimi had been the one who had been kidnapped in the previous episode, and it would be a re-tread of 'female Asura genius kidnapped'. Big missed opportunity because as an enemies since it would be good to shut the book on Inquest who have been twirl-their-moustache evil presenece streadily across the years of Living World (except Icebrood Saga).

My thought on the "Gods have a new garden" and other worlds of humans and things along that line is that it is the devs' method of moving into a new game.
The studio was considering closing down gw2 and moving to new projects and that's around the time when they started propping up the Gods moving on. I believe it will stay there as a thread for them to use when they want a change of world. It allows them the option of moving to a blank slate whilst keeping some of the character styles that players like so they have something to entice them into the new game

Talking about mysteries, the mursaat are still there for me, they are fascinating, the seers even more and I also like everything that was forgotten related.
Between the new races, the largos are by far the more mysterious ones. I hope they do something about them now, with the deep sea dragon I think it is the moment for them to shine. I got the feeling of the lonely and really strong warrior from them that I used to have with norns in Eotn.
Also, where did the charr came from when they arrived ascalon again in gw1? they were living more in the east before that right? would like to see where they were living during the time the humans reigned in Ascalon.

I like the idea that the Mist Stranger is actually a native of the human homeworld. Maybe he is acting as a "warden of Tyria" and we get to see the magic/technology of the human homeworld being used to preserve this "new" project that Gods have kinda left behind. We probably won't see the human homeworld directly, but I think it would be so cool to have these little sneak peaks and tidbits through an emissary like the Mist Stranger!

Anise - there’s been story seeds that she’s older than she appears. There’s a lovely conversation with Canach where he challenges her on it and she tells him that if he says it where anyone can hear she will kill him. There’s only random seeds, Queen Jennah appears more powerful than your ‘average’ Mesmer but is the power all hers.
The heir of Kryta - again only story seeded. It’s first mentioned in human Level 30 story when the orders are debating saving the Queen. Mentioned again in Living Story 3 - you can escort a caravan with Braham which carries a magical locket that shows the next Krytan heir. It’s hinted Caudicus thinks it’s Logan which is one reason for his attempts to remove him as well as the fact if Anise is the Queen’s right hand Logan was her left. (I suspect Faren but hopeI am wrong).
Logan said he was changed in the blighting pod in HOT which is one reason for him removing himself from Divinities Reach but as yet we don’t know what these changes are.
I suspect there’s a reason Queen Jennah has cut him loose (If you read the letters between them in the novel the attraction did not seem to be one sided) but that may also be a dangling plot line.

It doesn't excite me, it just makes me think of how many plot threads and characters they just throw at us, then never resolve. And then rather then focus on an existing plot (other pale trees, for example) they make up a new one with Joon and Jade....
To elaborate, I just look at the deus ex machina of the Glory of Tyria.
The deus ex machina of fighting Mordy in the dream cause Plant Commander can suddenly enter the dream.
Rytlock in the Mist just... failing to be coherent
Tami can put Elder Dragons to sleep.
Killing elder dragons is good. No, now its bad. Wait, its ok again cause Aurene is here.
Vlast dies to save us.. but we come back from the dead an hour later... way to make that sacrifice matter.
Gods can't fight dragons because that would be to destructive... so uh, just let the mortals do it? Why leave Tyria when we are killing them just fine... Did no god ever get a prayer about glint in 250 years?
Shining Blade is totally find with adding every race to it, despite being a human centric order to protect the throne and basically but a death curse on us?
I could go on... but my point is I really don't trust them to pay off on a mystery based on their past track record. They have lost the trust.

It is time to be reallistic about the golden orb in orr. When it was added there were not any idea of dragon hearths, but there was idea of gold styled magic related to the gods and more importantly to the forgotten who worked with the gods. It just show there was forgotten activity in the area teasing the path 3 of arah. Even if ignor the fact it predate idea that dragons have a heard and even that dragons explode on death (as big undead Z didnt) you cant get over the fact there is similar orb underwater in cused shore, does that make orr dragon graveyeard or something?

Aurenes capability as a vessel for dragon magic comes from her lineage through Glint and Kralkattoric. Why are Sylvari unable to do the same as spawns of the Pale Tree who is herself an orphaned champion of Mordremoth? How would the races interact if it turned out that every Sylvari was a potential battery, or bomb of dragon magic?

This comment is less of a theory/mystery and more pure desperation on my part, but what if Palawa Joko is still out there somewhere? Zafira and Aurene quoted Balthazar to each other, implying that since Aurene absorbed some of Balthazar's soul (she has pretty much all of it now that Kralk is dead), she has some of his memories. Perhaps that means whatever remains of Joko's soul is inside Aurene? I'm not really a subscriber to the theory of "Aurene's growling when she eats Joko sounds like Joko laughing" theory, but I think it would be really cool for Joko's nature of being such a powerful undead being to make his soul more resilient. So if Aurene's power was ever released back out into the wild, Joko's soul wouldn't just be vague fragments that would drift off to the Mists. He could turn into a ghost of some sort.
Again, I'm really reaching here. It's just because Joko was such an amazing character and I think he was killed off before reaching his full potential.

I don't know if this really counts, but I've always wondered what happened to Vekk from GW1. Compared to other prominent asura of his day as well as the other EotN heroes, he doesn't get a whole lot of tribute paid to him in GW2. There are a few off-hand references to him in the vanilla game, but they're hard to find and don't really say anything about his life. Not until HoT do we get anything even remotely substantial where during an event in Rata Novus a console suggests he became a teacher. The most significant piece we have is in Istan of all places where you can read an excerpt from his biography at the Astralarium. However, most of that excerpt is just a Priory Scholar praising the book. It seems he studied Scrying Pools for whatever that's worth. Might not be much of a mystery, but it always struck me as odd that Vekk is so obscure compared to his contemporaries.

I also was playing WvW today and started thinking about the land being Maguma wastes and wondering where this is/was in the real world before it was in the Mists? Was it in the Sage Lands, the Wilds? That portal above Brisban you can't pass through makes my eye twitch and I want to GO!! Janthir is big for me too, and maybe the Ash Legion Homeland?
As for other mysteries, I think from a storytelling perspective E has to be someone we know for the Who-done-it to really pay off, and Farin is the most likely candidate, but if it is him then it wasn't much of a mystery if we all guessed it, so pretty low for me.

If I were to guess, my money would be that "Mother" is to current EDs, the way Glint was to Aurene, Vlast (and maybe other lost offsprings). I see this as a story of renewal, the youngs take the place of the elder, somewhat like a pheonix (in a way). Maybe that's why in the lore it is said that the EDs come in cycles. Mybe they are not living forever, but are being replaced with smbd new.
Or not to far away, maybe "Mother" is to EDs, like we, the PC are to Aurene, a parent-like figure that helped it develop at the beginning of it's way. Maybe it is a stretch, but would be cool to ever find this out.
