Great info. Great first podcast. As the proud owner of an AR with a 26 inch barrel, the longer is better argument was something pounded into my head from the time I was a kid by older family members. I am happy to say I can hit just as well with my 20 and 16 inch barrels and they are a lot easier to hump around. So much has changed since I started shooting and reloading. You are teaching some of us old dogs new tricks.
I've read your book. I've watched your videos on NSSF. Just started watching this channel. I often repeat your saying about working on rifle craft if you can shoot less than 1 MOA. The information in this video was particularly interesting. I shoot hand loaded 168gr through my 16" Ruger Scout and they're only doing 2545 fps. Doesn't matter. They shoot very accurately and I can put them on steel at 1k yards. As you said, it just takes them a little longer to get there.
my name is Riaan and i am from South africa, good stuff. i have watched all your vidios NSSF and still wATCH THEM TO REFRESH MY MEMORY. may be one day i will meet you
Why the reduced loads? With the metallic cartridge reloads, they could cause premaure brass wear. My goal was to reduce a .22-250 load for fur friendly coyote hunting under 200 yds. The Speer tech mentioned getting down to .223 speeds.
Bro I know a lot of powder burners out there think that air rifels are a kiddy gun but I'm a air gunner love,em quiet backyard friendly and great for years possums and all those little critters that dont warrant a powder burner any chance of doing a segment this topic mainly barrel lengh and as you've just mentioned accuracy and valocity this can range from Springer's, nitro pistons (etc) these rifels are becoming more popular with the advance in technology what may your thoughts be cur bro from NEW ZEALAND BY THE WAY AWSOM CONTENT AND INFORMATION KEEP THEM COMEING YA GONA SMASH IT DUDE
Yeah no with regards to your definitions. Precision is accuracy in more specific terms. The distinction you're trying to make is not drawn between "accuracy" and "precision"... it's between the shooter and the gun. Accuracy: the degree to which the result of a measurement, calculation, or specification (a group) conforms to the correct value or a standard (say, MOA). Precision: refinement in a measurement, calculation, or specification (a group), especially as represented by the number of digits given (say .302 thou). "Degree to which" and "refinement of" Accuracy- pass/fail Precision- the actual data As it applies to an individual shooter- Accuracy: did you hit him? Precision: where did you hit him?
Great Video - content wise!! I have done a lot of audio work. You have a good mic. But just like a stock can degrade the accuracy / precision of a rifle - your desk and setup there where you do your videos can affect your overall audio quality and introduce noises into your audio on your videos! And I can tell you - you need a heavier desk that is sturdy to make better quality with the same mic you have now. I can explain it this way - you are a strong guy and what appear as small movements on your part are shaking the desk/table that you are using and that is introducing noise into your video. So like a better barrel, and lead sled help stabilize the gun and make it shoot more accurately. A heavier desk that is sturdier - so that it does not wiggle when you bump it with slight movements - will help you produce much better audio. Or you could change to a mic you wear clipped to your shirt. I hope this helps you!!
What's your thoughts on a Tikka Tx3 Tac A1 in 6.5 Creedmoor. Given this topic on velocity, if it is to be used for target and hunting do you feel a 20" barrel will provide sufficient velocity and energy down range compared to a 24"barrel. Also in Europe, particularly Sweden, only rifles can be used for certain game, including moose, red deer, and bear. For ammunition the following requirements apply in Sweden : Bullets, which weigh between 9 and 10 grams (139-154 grains) must have an impact energy of at least 2.700 joules 100 metres from the muzzle. Such ammunition is classified as Class 1. (2700 joules = 1991ft/lb) So do you feel the 20" or 24" would provide the better velocity?
Ryan, was given your book for Christmas, never put it down and read the whole book in about 4 days which is a first for me and thoroughly enjoyed it as a complete novice. One question I have is the DOPE Card for Rifle in the Appendices how exactly do you fill that in, what do you write in the boxes for say 100 Yards/Metres at 60F/15°C as unsure what you record. Regards from England 🏴
I'm curious about how to use mil dots for adjusting for elevation(bullet drop). I've watched your videos on ranging with mil dots, but didn't understand those adjustments. Is it different from the moa process, or similar?
I have a Remington 700 chambered in .308 1/12 twist 26" barrel. My question is what is the max bullet weight for this twist before it becomes unstable, and what kinda range should I see with that bullet? I would like to shoot 168gr SMK.
Evidently the Tikka's have gone up a lot in price since this video, nothing in the $600 price range as I can see. BTW, anybody have any thoughts on the Howa Bravo series rifles? Thanks in advance.
I will say that my Proof CF barrel in 6.5CM (18 inch) in my Accuracy International is outstanding and has been for a lot of rounds. We will see if it continues I guess.
I have a Bergara HMR Pro in .308 using a Vortex Viper HS-T. I got sub MOA at 200yds. Shot steel out to 500yds. I have no complaints. I have put about 200yds through it so far.

What a great first blog - absolutely packed with useful information. Just ordered the book, keep up the great work!

Best gifts for my friends- your books. Thank you
I mounted my scope crooked to begin with hoping the rifle would automatically shoot accordingly, it didn't :(
Great vid!!!!

Glad I found this!
Can you use an ar for precision shooting? I have a 5.56/223 Diamondback black gold 1:8 twist. What do you recommend on ammo for it?
“Cleckner Outdoors” would be a good name.
Strategic Edge Baby!
My Ballistic advantage barrel shoots 1/2” with hand loads.

Does this hold true for a snub nose vs a 6" bbl revolver? Most people think that a snub nose can't be accurate. I disagree.
What happened to Ryan’s chats?
hi wich is best lenth barrel for 308 for long range or competition
Bro hi from New Zealand Awesome videos Ryan. You need to have guests on go Joe Rogan style!
I will say that my Proof CF barrel in 6.5CM (18 inch) in my Accuracy International is outstanding and has been for a lot of rounds. We will see if it continues I guess.
Where to get those book if you can tell me
The cleckner project for a podcast name
Ryan what’s your opinion on Bergara hmr rifles .thanks
I have a Bergara HMR Pro in .308 using a Vortex Viper HS-T. I got sub MOA at 200yds. Shot steel out to 500yds. I have no complaints. I have put about 200yds through it so far.
Velocity concistancy is a varibul in precision is an issue, right?
They say this is a good microphone. I just don't hear it. It is either has been set up wrong or it is not as good, to begin with.
Consistently kiss my ass you see? No, no. That’s not right.
Consistency is the key to accuracy. Got it!
Thanks Ryan!
My 308 is 20 inches a shoots dime size or less at 100 yards
hallo ,the rifle but kick ,the recoil.how should the butt be held to be trully acurate
Cryogenics the barrel is that really work ?
You will surely enjoy tacomHQ website
