Loved Black Sun ! So excited to read the next book. Also, loved Xiala and Serapio story line together. ❤️ As well as their individual narratives. I agree I did want more information about the tower and the night of the knives. 🤞 It will be in the next installment.
I am glad you'e sharing all of these fantasy videos with us. I have a very different taste in fantasy, or maybe just broader, I would say, but it's still so interesting to follow your fantasy journey. I am currently listening to Jade City and really enjoying the audiobook. I am also really looking forward to Black Sun.
Apologies for delayed comment, but I loved hearing your thoughts on these. This video actually made more interested in The Bone Ships than I thought I would be. Yours is the first review I’ve seen talk about the writing style being similar to Hobb’s. I am in desperate need of a fantasy book with some good prose lol. I need to eventually get around to black sun.
I began The Bone Dragons with high hopes as I loved Liveship Traders but found that I spent a lot of the time lost. There is currently a readalong of the series over on Covers with Cassidy’s channel and many people had similar thoughts to yours.
I have Jade City on my list for this year. I hope the characters and the writing are good enough for me because I don't tend to like mafia stories. I usually prefer fantasy set in another world or a time far in the past. The mix of guns and cars with magic tends to bother me for some reason.
If you didn't enjoy Jade City then I doubt you'd enjoy Jade War and Jade Legacy - especially if you prefer fantasy with an older feel to its worldbuilding! It's not second world fantasy, but I'd recommend The Absolute Book by Elizabeth Knox, which I'm reading at the moment, and is a bizarre mixture of literary fiction, fantasy and mystery. It's a chunky novel and so far I have no idea what's going on, but I also can't put it down! Knox is from New Zealand, though, and I've noticed I tend to enjoy speculative fiction from Australian and New Zealand authors. :)
I found the writing in Jade City quite bad, too, and the world was so misogynistic without seeming to really critique those attitudes. Kudos to you that you finished it, I couldn't get to the end.
Thank you for the reviews; I hadn’t heard anyone describe Jade City’s setting and had no idea it was meant to be a more modern setting which includes technology. It’s not my thing either, and paired with poor writing, is a definite pass for me now. Thanks for saving me the time and possibly money!
You always give such complete and well rounded reviews. Definitely want to read Black Sun now!

It was fun and informative to hear you talk about fantasy reads.
Ember Blade worked for me really well. I liked the questioning element and I’m pretty keen to get the sequel and find out where it goes on to :)
Interesting picks. Loved the Jade City books and Black Sun.

Ooo I’ve read all of these😍💯
I would say urban fantasy is for sure more modern closer to our world. so possibly wouldn’t likely be your favourite!
