    I was recommended a Hammers 3-9x40AO air rifle scope from a friend I trust. Made for air, got mildots, very clear, almost 14" long, comes with see thru lens covers, [love those], $77.64 delivered. Can't beat that with a stick. Mounted on my Gamo Bone Collector, plenty of room for the break to clear and plenty of room for good sighting. FULLY ADJUSTABLE - Variable 3x-9x power and 40mm parallex adjustable objective. Fingertight windage/elevation adjustments. Focus as close as 5yards at lower magnifications. Bought from Amazon.

    I just want to let you know that you sir are a fantastic "presenter of information!"
    As a teacher, I am often frustrated with the way people on UA-cam present the information that they are trying to get across. Don't get me wrong I appreciate their effort, but often they fall short of really getting the information to the viewer. You were clear, concise, gave great examples and came across very likeable and approachable to the viewer. Well done and thank you for the video, it gave me much to consider!

    A good instructional piece. However, I would have liked to see something concerning scopes that are appropriate for springers. In short, scopes that keep their center even with the recoil that springers bring to the table --- especially when mounted on dovetails. Thanks you.

    Well said my friend!! The lighted 36 colors is a definite plus... and i am NOT color blind! I came in handy for me... and i like how you covered scope position too. Those are my many thousands of reasons why i switched over to Leapers UTG now.

    Tom, maybe on a future follow up video about scopes you could cover adjustable objective and parallax when choosing scopes. I've starting researching scopes myself and have found those to be some of the harder pieces of the puzzle to learn about. I feel that is is particularly important with airguns due to their shorter max effective ranges when compared to firearms (for which most scopes are made).

    multicolored reticles help with certain backgrounds blending in on the reticle color so changing color for a particular background so the reticle can be seen more clearly.

    Hi tom, what you have there is a gas strut (spring), when theoben invented the gas ram for air rifles the contained nitrogen and piston were one item, and as the piston compressed the air on its stroke it rammed air through the port and into the barrel hence "gas ram", of coarse they did not invent the ram but they were the first to incorporate it into an airgun, so their system is a gas ram but the strut (spring) is just that and not a ram system. keep it up tom.

    Only had two scopes so far. Both 4x32. Center Point and a Tasco. The CP came along with my cheap Crosman Phantom .177 break barrel, and has worked well for years. The Tasco been all good on my Sig Sauer Virtus .22 PCP - but just barely worked for up to 50 meters. 50meters worked well mostly because the Virtus ain't that accurate to begin with - but the group still do begin to occur where the lines cross..🤣
    Been concidering a 3-12 scope as next since I do wanna stretch up a bit further out visually as have before. 4x does not always look as the "4x" claimed by cheap scopes...

    Tom, I am new to airgunning. I am going to purchase a 25 cal Umarex Gauntlet pcp when they come out in a couple of months. Thinking about getting a Hawke 3-9x40 IR. Can't imagine ever shooting past 75 yards...50 at most. Is 3-9 enough or should I go 3-12?

  • @billiebleach7889

    I prefer to mount as low as possible on a springer...for trajectory reasons. But on a powerful PCP (if it is accurate on long range) I prefer a high mount because it, so to speak, flattens things out between 65 and 100 meter.

  • @JohnSmith-nz9dn
    @JohnSmith-nz9dn 8 років тому +2

    A good reason to mount a scope as low as possible is to make it easier to get a good cheek weld, which is critical if you're shooting standing, sitting, or prone. The UTG scope on my Marauder is so low that I can't use the objective cover because it contacts the barrel shroud. (Yes - it clears the magazine.)

    I have a hatsan 155 torpedo in .25, I was stupid and bought the spring piston model. Are there any scopes that can handle the amount of vibration? I bought a nice leapers scope and it stopped staying zeroed after the 100th shot or so.

    • @hunter100t
      @hunter100t 8 років тому +2

      +TrueTreeRadio Most scopes these days are air gun rated but you should make sure, MTC Optisan, Hawke, Nikko sterling, BSA, it goes on. but always check the rating. But there is also a product out there originally brought out by theoben the inventors of the gas ram, and that is the dampa mount for scopes, its a free ring systems where the rings are supported by very durable rubber grommets that enable the scope to ride the recoil of a gas ram but always returns to zero every time. I have been using them on my theobens for years with no problems at all. hope this helps.

    Thanks for the vid. We all have our opinions, but I like to see objective reason for those opinions, (not just claim something as if it is fact). I am sure, because of trajectory, that the lower the scope is, the wider your range for an accurate shot without a mill dot. The difference in range may only be 5 to 10 yards between a 1 inch difference in scope height, but that is yardage where you don't have to offset your cross hairs from the center. Also, I am not sure why a color blind person would want or need 36 different cross hair colors than a normal vision human. I am not color blind as far as I know, and I am sure I would not even know the names of half of those colors, or even care what color it is. It's a "abstract artist type", (useless, again not based on objective reason), sales gimmick IMO.
    We may not agree, but you seem like a heck of a nice guy.

      Yes, sadly it's not unusual for airgun manufacturers to include lower quality scopes in bundles. At Pyramyd Air we often recommend buying the gun separately and a scope that is suited for airguns (in case of break barrels that is rated for spring powered airguns)

    I just purchased a Hatsan 95/22 from PyramidAir and gave the supplied Optima scope to my 12 year old son for his Hatsan Alfa Junior. Now I have no idea what to get for me. I was almost about to pull the trigger on the UTG 3-9X32 Bugbuster but the negative reviews are troubling. Many say it does not hold up to the spring recoil of air guns. This is a problem. As I mainly shoot 10 to 35 yards I have no idea what to buy. My budget is -$100. Any suggestions?

    I have the Hatsan 135 .30 cal. springer, and need a scope that is precise and holds up. Why not use this springer, (the beast of them all BB), to do a scope test for reliability, accuracy and repeatability. The gun is known, the scope is not. If you want to find the best scope for any springer, use this springer. I don't want to see anything less than 450 rounds either.
