Fabulous press conference by Emma Hayes! This is the very beginning of a developmental process. The winning will come. Perhaps not soon enough to win gold in Paris, but this will be a top team again! They have enormous potential and she seems extremely competent to unlock that potential.

@@straightgarb No one becomes fundamentally sound by osmosis. Let’s not pretend that ALL of our older players we’re tactically and technically sophisticated because they just weren’t. I know we like to remember things more fondly than they were but, lets be fair to THIS group. Besides it took past teams almost 10 years to start being
      ‘dominant’.
The right coach and system will use the skills that THIS group has to succeed. There is more than one way to win. Emma is probably the best in the world at this right now.
Id like to see the conversation after their run at the olympics. They have a lot to prove for themselves.

Emma made it clear this was a "team building" practice match. Just getting game time together as a team allows her to make assessments and prepare for competitive games. This result is not as important as just getting game time. You would not want to give too much away as to tactics and team structure before the Olympics either.
Having said all that, the team building is for the next World Cup. Any medals won at the Olympics would have to be a bonus, just on where the team was at, before Emma was appointed.

I said this as well. Stop putting so much pressure on the team to put it all together so quickly. I believe this team will be absolutely killer during the next cycle, but not right away. This Olympics is just another teaching and learning moment.

If you are the opposition coach the last thing you want is a free flowing game. There is so much talent on this team and they are almost too unselfish. If you get caught in an open game they will crush you. That being said, this team is going to have to fight through lots of blocks and be patient with their play. There will be different locks to open. There are only 12 teams at the Olympics, all of them will be tough. It is going to be fun to see them succeed!

Patience is needed with this squad and the coaching staff. They have so many highs to celebrate and some minor lows that can be managed fairly easy. Finding that passer was a very evident low, there was no one taking any risk to the attack and dropping in on a run. When the USWNT came into the box they were so hesitant to find who was going to make the move to get the football pass that crossbar. I believe it had to do not having their best, Rose Lavelle to make those choices. Those ladies are a wonderful team and they have been very clear who does what and that last minute change brought I believe the challenge they needed that no other team was going to bring. The mental part of the game was more of a challenge then if they could beat CR or not, they could of but they were working all match to find an answer to who should be where or do what.
This squad can win matches and now they can work on all the change ups that can come in future with these Olympic matches upcoming. All those ladies did really well and from the amount of corners, the high percentage of possession and shot on goals are still a winning recipe to win these upcoming matches.
They as a whole did very well and will continue to do so, this coaching staff have high promise to success and we can see that very soon.

Her interviews are so refreshing. It's clear that she has plans both tactically and relationally and is in it for the long haul. She knows how to communicate enough of her tactics to share that she actually knows what she's doing without giving away their full tactical schemes. I honestly never felt that from Vlatko. It seemed like he didn't really know what to do and just tried the same thing over and over again, which ultimately never worked. We might have a manager for a decade or two. We certainly have the talent, and she's done more in a month than we've had the past four years. (Just my opinion).

I have complete confidence in Emma Hayes. I've followed her closely since she was the 1st Red Stars coach and selected Megan Rapinoe as their 1st draft pick. She's a proven manager in Europe. The only complaint this week was her not using her bench enough. She's trying to develop team chemistry. The only way to do that is playing together on the pitch in game conditions. Give her time. Winning begins with defense and GKing. They played solid defense and scored just enough to assure victory. The scoring will come.

It’s the same issue they have had for a number of years. They can’t finish and produce goals. This is the worst game from an offensive standpoint that I have seen the ladies. It was an embarrassment. They were literally playing a glorified college team. I seen them play Mexico on Saturday and they were also a major disappointment. I don’t see this team winning much if they can’t resolve their lack of scoring. It was not their defense that got them bounced at the WC it was one goal in three games. Corner kicks means nothing to this team. I hope they can fix this issue and soon.
