  • The Tyco Electronics (TE Connectivity) AMP Superseal 1.0 dash connector on my 2009 Ducati 848 broke, and I decided to document the repair with this video. My research revealed that this connector is used to connect the dash to the main wiring harness on various Ducati motorcycles, including the 749, 848, 1098, 1098R, 1198 and the Desmosedici. The following Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki motorcycles also use this same connector for the Engine Control Unit (ECU):
    - GSXR1300 Hayabusa ECU (99'-07')
    - YZF-R1 ECU (07'-08')
    - YZF-R6 ECU (06'-14')
    - ZX-10R ECU (04'-05')
    Other Known Applications:
    - Motec ECU's: M84, M400, M600, M800, and M1 series M130, M142, M150
    - Motec Power Distribution Module's: PDM15, PDM30
    - Motec Expansion box E888
    - DTAfast ECU's: S60, S80, S100
    - Haltech ECU's
    - Link ECU's
    As described in the video, I found this particular connector at Corsa Technic, a provider of products and services to the motorsports industry. Corsa Technic offers an extensive range of products for high performance vehicle electronics, from wiring to connectors, sensors, and tooling for harness maintenance. This might sound like a paid advertisement, but it's not; Sarah and Alex were extremely helpful and very knowledgeable, and I will go back for any future motorcycle electrical needs!

    I didn't know a lot about this Ducati 848 dash connector until mine broke, and this project turned out to be relatively easy. This Tyco/Amp connector fits a lot of Ducati makes and models, as well as some Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki motorcycle ECUs. I added a more complete list in the description. If you know of any other applications, please add in a comment. Enjoy the How To!

    The next video has to be the valve adjustment! We talked on IG about my wrecked 848 and other things (Fuel pump issues and hub replacements). You saved me like $800 in labor with these videos! Thank you!

      Hey Orlando, good to see you here again! It's great to hear that my videos are saving you money. I can confirm that the valve adjustment and timing belt replacement video is coming soon! My buddy has a 1098 that we might record, but if I can't make that work, a good friend who is a true-blue certified Ducati mechanic has agreed to allow me to film my next valve check and belt replacement. Since I'm due, this will likely occur within the next couple of months. Stay tuned!

    Dude what an absolutely great, well shot, informative video. This is quite literally the only video on the entire internet, that actually shows how to disassemble and reassemble this 1.0 connector. Not even kidding. You should consider changing the title to add "AMP Superseal Connector" or "how to assemble / disassemble / pin removal, so it's easier to find by Google, as well. I've been searching all day, and everything else shows an ulterior Superseal style, or unhelpful info.
    I'm not a two-wheel guy also, but that's one sweet bike! Very cool.

      Thank you, Elle! This was one of the reasons I made this video, I searched for days, but couldn't find any good instructional videos for this connector. I added 'AMP Superseal Connector' in the title, per your suggestion. May I ask the application where you are using this connector? I'll add that to my list and let the folks over at Corsa Technic know. Thanks!!!

      Awesome! I'm using it on a MoTeC M84 ECU (M800 loom) for a race car application. Literally all I wanted to do was remove a pin, and switch it into another socket, but for the life of me I had NO idea how to get them out. I thought they were similar to an Autosport type of plug, where you slide the plastic pin removal tool down around the wire, pushing down the locking tab and then sliding the pin and tool out as one. The rear of the plugs give that idea as they are very very similar. And believe you me, I wrecked one of my tools trying! And as stated, nowhere online tells you otherwise except here. How bloody easy is that! :)

    great video , I've just picked up a wrecked 848 from the auctions, no keys though! just waiting for the dash new keys and ignition barrel to come back from a ECU re-programmers! can't wait to get stuck into turning her into a track day bike.

    😎👍👍
    I seen you was using what we call at Boeing “Boot Tape” great tape and like you say if you need to remove it there is no sticky remains. To remove the tape just slide an X-Acto knife along the length of the tape but just slightly apply cutting pressure to cut the tape and it comes right off.

    Hey there. Great details in all your videos.
    You mentioned that the bike was turned on after 9 months. Thats a big time.
    Could you please share on steps what you follow before storing for so long and steps to bring the bike back from hibernate mode.
    Thanks.

    Nice video.
    Point of order, not all of those are a "Pin", some are a "Socket". Since you are moving them over- no issue, but if you were crimping new connector- that wouldn't be a fun surprise when you go to plug it into the dash.

      @Track848  5 років тому +1

      Thanks T210! I learned the right lingo/nomenclature on everything from Corsa Technic AFTER I made this video... This was a huge learning experience for me since I had never really completed a project of this 'magnitude!' Thanks for viewing!

    Buell XB uses TE Connectivity Superseal 34 points connectors. You can buy the connectors, PCB headers and terminals on Mouser for instance.

      @Track848  4 роки тому

      That's good to know... I'll add Buell XB to the list, and will let my Buell friends know if they ever have a problem with their connectors...

    Hello sir:
    May I cite this photo as an application map of our company where it is used? We are mainly selling crimper jaw and terminals. The photos you took are very good, it will be very useful for our "where to use" showing. 🙏🙏

    Hi dude, great video as always, but could you tell me, is it fairly straightforward to remove the entire dash from the bike for inspection? My ‘07’ 1098s has a possible bulb or led fault and need to check it out. Cheers 🤘

    • @Track848
      @Track848  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, it is fairly straightforward. It is not a hard job at all. If you can get your hands on the Repair and Service manual that would be helpful...

    Hi, hello. Im currently rebuilding my crash ducati 848 2008, iv ordered this amp superseal connecter and now need to replace it but not sure which wire goes to which pin. The diagram you provided is that the right one for my 848? Cheers

    • @Track848
      @Track848  4 роки тому

      Your 2008 848 should be the same as my 2009 848, Hassanol... To be safe and certain, I recommend that you remove one wire at a time like I did and immediately insert it into the coinciding slot in the new connector. It takes a few minutes, but it's worth getting right the first time. Good luck!

    Wow!
    29k Miles 👍👍
    How many of those on track?
    I am thinking to get an 848 for track duty but I keep reading about the engine locking up and brake.

    • @Track848
      @Track848  6 років тому +1

      Approximately 19,000 miles are street (pretty aggressive street), and the remaining 10,000 are track days. I bought this bike new in 2010, and while it has had it's share of 'routine' mechanical issues, the engine is as strong or stronger than it was when I bought it. The brakes are wonderful and I've only had one self-imposed 'locking' issue. It's a great track bike!

      I bought an 1098S salvage bike and build it to a trackbike but, sadly I had to sell it after a single ride due to family emergency.... I actually like the bike base on just that single ride but I want something easier on tires 😉
      My RSV4 can eat some 😉

    How do you reset the serv indicator after changing oil? Is it similar to a 2011 that you know? Anything helps

    • @Track848
      @Track848  4 роки тому +1

      Andrew, there are a few options to reset the SERV light: 1) Take it to a dealer, (be prepared to pay); 2) Buy your own VDST unit or 3) Use one of a few different 'do-it-youself' methods such as JPDiag, RexXer or Tuneboy. If you're a DIYer, I recommend researching those options and perhaps checking them out on your favorite motorcycle forum for your model.
