- As someone who played the original P3 I'm very thrilled to see Mio playing P3R 🙏 Mass Destruction still makes me jam instead of focusing on the battle every time 😇

To explain to people who haven't played P3 before and don't understand the Evoker: Minato and the SEES Team can only summon their personas by confronting their own demise - the Evoker stimulates your mind's will to survive, putting you in the life or death state that can trigger an Awakening as they are called in-universe. The Investigation Squad of P4 almost feels tame by comparison, but they were forced to confront their Shadows directly, and the Phantom Thieves of P5 physically tear the masks that society had chained them with to reveal their true selves. It's all pretty grim underneath the flashy trappings and the banger music!
to me who knows nothing about persona, this sounds like a bunch of gobbledygook xD
Now I'm even more interested in this series!
Interesting, I always thought the use of the Evoker signifies the death of one's false self that forms a "mask" to adapt, protect, and live within a society. With the death of the society-formed selves, the characters from P3 can allow their true selves to manifest. Thanks for the good read!
@@doggosuki Put simply, an "evoker" kicks the characters' "fight-or-flight" response into overdrive, and a "persona" is a materialisation of the will to live.
There is also another overarching reason. The Persona series is heavily based on the psychological theory of Carl Jung. It’s also where the term “persona” and “shadow” come from: personas are the masks we wear in social situations, while shadows are the hidden and repressed parts of your ego. To become your actual true self you need to go on an inner hero’s journey to understand yourself (and accept your shadow) and “kill” your ego.
In the game the evoker serves as a tool to achieve this and that’s why the characters are shown to kill themselves.
Glad people can still be surprised by the awakening even though the opening has all the characters shooting themselves. Can’t wait for Subaru to play P3R.

But we'll see about that since February-March is packed with so many RPG.
Not to mention next week we'll get Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which I know Subaru is excited to play it since she's love FF7 character and story.
Not to mention now Shuba is kinda interested in Metal Gear Solid, so my safest bet is she's probably not gonna play any RPG soon before Rebirth but, eh maybe she will. We'll just have to wait and see every now and then on her channel.
Also she's still have Yakuza series to finished with since last month she's finished Yakuza 5 so now up left is Yakuza 6 for Kiryu Saga Finale and Yakuza: Like A Dragon (7), Like A Dragon Gaiden & Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth (8).
To be fair, it is a normal thing for characters to do things in the opening they will never do in the game/anime. It could have been a metaphor for something they would go through in game, but not the actual thing happening.

Really glad Mio started playing P3R. She's gonna be in one hell of a ride! And for some reason, I can see her cry on the game ending.
Especially with understanding the credits song lyrics… I feel like other languages lose a little bit by not understanding the lyrics to the song, the lyrics add a lot to the song.

Blasting yourself in the face to summon your Persona is definitely a unique plot element lol. I thought the game does a pretty good job explaining the need for the mental trauma though. I'm a noob when it comes to the Persona games, having only played the rhythm game, but definitely agree that Mass Destruction is a certified banger. I cannot wait for the rest of Mio's playthrough!

The Evoker = Acceptance of Mortality
The original version had a heavy emphasis on the phrase "Momento Mori"
The protagonist passed out due to the overwhelming power of awakening to both the Fool (Orpheus) and the Death (Thanatos) at the same time
A wild card user is supposed to awaken To the Fool first and get accustomed to the power before using the other Arcana

It really is good. The quality of life changes really helps the game shine. I can't wait to see what kind of masterpiece Persona 6 will be, if Atlus continues learning. Maybe this time we'll get a Fem protagonist option

He didn't run away because he wasn't afraid of dying. It only slapped her because it didn't care about her in the slightest, just wanted her out of the way of the real target.

P3 evokers are one of those things that everyone who knows about just sort of gets so familiar with that you stop realizing how weird it actually is.

I still remember the first time I saw this in PERSONA 3 PORTABLE.
Most INTENSE AND BADASS way of Summoning I’ve ever seen.
I think thanatos wailing on the magician shadow like an animal was more fitting and brutal. 2 cuts is kinda tame for a Persona gone berserk.
Honestly I’m happy seeing Mio play one of my most favorite JRPGs of all time I love persona 3 and I’ll have to say I hope she enjoys the adventure!

Fun fact. The SEES team was meant to be a crew that was going to (unknowingly) sunmon the god of death. The man who was silent was surprised to see said god come out of Orphous.

Thats one part that i find to be core of the persona series, the characters shedding their surface persona and revealing their true self/persona. Everything else is kinda similar to devil summoner

As a newcomer to Persona (my only experience with the series is Joker from Super Smash Brothers (lol)), I've gotta say this series knows what it wants to do, and it certainly does it well! I can't wait for the next jam session!
For anyone curious, it’s not a real gun. It’s a device that assists in summoning a persona. The reason it was designed like that was intentional. With P3’s themes of death and facing it head on, it was intentionally symbolic that the summoning of one’s persona was done in a way that imitated committing $u1cide

Orpheus for instance, he may looks like have no inclination to death, bit in his lore he could entice Hades the god of the underworld.

Yep! The way P3 evokers are used for Persona summoning was quite a choice, and it's always shocking the first time one watches it (if you don't know beforehand that they aren't actual guns). Also, I find funny how in the cutscene it looks like Yukari is pointing a gun in the wrong direction after unholstering it in a very dramatic fashion.
Yes, let Hololive be taken over by Persona! I would be happy to see if some current or new member could awaken to their own Persona

So if I'm understanding Persona as a series correctly (which I'm probably not) it is basically a series about people who must confront themselves and cast aside the doubt and their propped up false image of the self to combat the wrongness occuring in the world in their respective games.
Not exactly Persona 5 is specifically that.
But, Persona 3 is about the Journey of life. How do you live through Tragedy, how do you survive against Monsters. Would you take hold of Fate or let Fate rule you.
Persona 4 is fighting for the Truth no matter how ugly it is
P3 does have it slightly but 4 and 5 definitely has the whole self-image thing going on.

Respectfully, how do you purchase and play the game without knowing anything about the summoning? Not only is this an almost 20 year old game but all of Reload's promotional material was about it. You'd have to have bought the game completely blindly...

They can only summon they're persona because they have the Will needed to trigger Fight or Flight
Persona users have a rough life
They have to deal with their own Troubles but to stop the Destruction of the World they have to accept certain things
Persona 3 Death is Inevitable how will you control how you die ? (Burn Your Dread)
Persona 4 the Truth is ugly but you shouldn't cloud your view with lies, how will you take on the Ugly Truth ? (Reach out to the Truth)
Persona 5, People in power are Corrupt and Shitty, how will you bring light to crimes hidden by the corruption in Society ? (Break in, to Break out...... and Taking back your Autonomy)
