Yay. Glad that Game Boy has returned for at least one video. I know so little about the deep cuts of the library that it's always very informative. Glad I stayed awake for this one.
So about Parasol Henbee: The encounter with the giant monkey actually requires you to go past it. There's a large rock you push that leads to the exit. There is a final boss, an Oni, not sure if he's affiliated with the anime, but it is an actual boss fight. You rescue a little bird, and basically watch as both fly back, and get a congratulatory end screen. So yea. You didn't miss much.
Personally, I'm grateful for Game Boy Works! I use it as a reference when game shopping to see what of the mountain of old GB games are actually worth picking up. There's so many to sift through! And it's great to have an entertaining and informative review to help guide the way! Thanks for all your hard work, Jeremy! Happy 5th year!
I'm always worried you'll disappear like Dr. Sparkle. Thanks for keeping up with this, Jeremy. I love Game Boy and I love your videos and I love the Retronauts podcast.
Nah, I have way too much skin in this game. I've acquired a year's worth of boxed Game Boy releases for this and I need to justify that sweet, sweet tax write-off.
I'm looking forward to celebrating Game Boy Works' 25th/Game Boy's 30th anniversary in 2039, where I'll still have only made it midway through 1992's catalog of games
I didn't hear it mentioned, but there's also an arcade version of Cadillac/Square Deal called Gun Dealer, also produced by Hect but published by Tecmo. Speaking of Hect, they weren't *technically* responsible for City Connection; rather they were started by Jaleco staff in 1988, led by the guy who produced City Connection, Formation Z, and Bases Loaded. Confusion has arisen in attribution because another company spun off from Hect in 1992 (Axes Art Amuse) claimed all those old Jaleco titles in their works history.
Even if the game itself isn't exactly awe-inspiring, the premise of Square Deal is something I find really interesting. Baten Kaitos put a similar poker-inspired card-matching system into a turn-based RPG, and it's always been one of my favorite RPGs because of how unique its combat is. Not enough games challenge your brain in multiple ways at once.
these two games actually look pretty interesting. square deal has a nice puzzle game premise and parasol henbee has those cute mini sprites with a tonne of things on the screen which is always interesting on the game boy.
Catching up on Game Boy Works feels like as much of an accomplishment to me as you completing Game Boy Works. Definitely not an unreasonable comparison. Nope, exactly the same. Keep up the great work so one day you too can be as proud of yourself as I am now!
wow it's not 2020 yet false advertising smh In all seriousness, I'm super happy to see this detour. I love the works series and am saving up money to get your books soon. Both the old versions and new ones
Wait a minute... Parasol Henbee's death music sounds near-exactly like the SNES Doraemon games' death music. Epoch worked on those as well. Those are pretty decent if you can get past the language barrier.
I guess "Mr. Saturn in Monkey Land" didn't have as much ring to it as "Parasol Henbee". (yes, I understand the media connection that you elucidated so well, but let me have this)
I wonder if the bosses and weird encounters in Parasol Henbee make more sense if you're a big fan of the cartoon itself. Maybe it's one of those things where if you're familiar with the license you're yelling (positively) at the screen because they rendered your favorite episode in game form, but to anyone else it's just nonsense because the game creator expects you to know something from the source material.
Glad to see Gameboy Works briefly return just in time for Gameboy's 30th anniversary. Great episode even though both the games kinda suck, especially that Parasol Henbee game.
Good stuff. More in depth reviews so we know what is right. Can you pls do top games of all time on GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES and other platforms. thanks
Rogue Rifter Unless he decided to change his mind he stated that Game Boy Works was returning in 2020 (minus this one exception). My guess is that he will finish NES Works 1987 first.

Happy anniversary, Jeremy! Here's to many more successful years of Works videos, books and whatever else.

@@JeremyParish If I'm still alive, I'll be watching!
I’ve picked up so many hidden gems on Game Boy thanks to Jeremy Parish’s series. These aren’t two of them.
I didn't hear it mentioned, but there's also an arcade version of Cadillac/Square Deal called Gun Dealer, also produced by Hect but published by Tecmo.

This is the deep cut I never knew I wanted.

as much as i like the name Square Deal, it might have sold better with a more direct name like Puzzle Poker
these two games actually look pretty interesting.
square deal has a nice puzzle game premise and parasol henbee has those cute mini sprites with a tonne of things on the screen which is always interesting on the game boy.
They're both almost pretty good, but not quite!
Happy 5 years Jeremy! Love the channel.
I got to attend the Retronauts Game Boy panel at Midwest Gaming Classic this weekend. Great job as always Jeremy, to you and the gang!

November 1990. Game Boy Work Vol.3, we're almost there...
Any plan to cover Super Robot Wars for the Game Boy?
I did like the music in Parasol Henbee at least!
Parasol is a gem. I will add one in my collection, especially being a JDM game.
Has it seriously been only five years? You've made so much progress on such an enormous task that it seems like you've been at it longer.
Oh wow so this is where the idea for the XBLA game poker smash came from!
Hooray Game Boy Works is back!!!!
I'd never thought that I'd see cyraid get referenced in another game.
I really missed Game Boy Works, I like it far more than nes and snes works.
Virtual Boy Works IS Game Boy Works
@@JeremyParish ....huh, indeed
wow it's not 2020 yet false advertising smh

Pop'n Henbee
Delete this
Square Deal could have been a classic if it was a little kinder, eh?
9:07 Is that You've Got A Friend In Me?
Loved this and reusing of Mario game boy items blocks from 6 coins
Square Deal would make a ton of money if you stuck it in a truck stop.
Wait a minute... Parasol Henbee's death music sounds near-exactly like the SNES Doraemon games' death music. Epoch worked on those as well. Those are pretty decent if you can get past the language barrier.

Square deal uses a classical music piece but I can't figure out what it is.
I believe it’s from Leopold Mozart’s Toy Symphony.
It's Bach's Air from Suite No. 3 in D Major, BWV 1068.

Would love to play Square Deal on mobile phones!
Yeah, that would work pretty well, I think.
Adventure Island-like stamina meter? So Wonder Boy, then? :)
Sure, but one of those franchises has context appropriate to the platform being discussed, and one doesn't.
I know. I just feel obligated to play Sega Defence Force sometimes :)
Parasol henbee should have been released in the USA in the first place. 😀👍🎮
Glad to see Gameboy Works briefly return just in time for Gameboy's 30th anniversary. Great episode even though both the games kinda suck, especially that Parasol Henbee game.
Ah, token Chubby Cherub reference!
Token? There's a substantive connection here!
These ganes look really decent.
I will play square deal. 😀👍🎮
Glad to see GameBoy come back for your 5 year anniversary 🤘🏼
On a side note, I hate puyo puyo games. I’m so bad at them :(
Square deal would be a good game on 3ds
Feels good to be back. When is NES Works starting again?
It never stopped...?
I thought it had been temporarily replaced by Virtual Boy Works?
I want to see someone destroy Square Deal at a GDQ (unless it turns out finishing the game takes longer than 20 minutes).
Good stuff. More in depth reviews so we know what is right. Can you pls do top games of all time on GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES and other platforms. thanks
Sorry, no, that's not what this channel is about.
I can't wait until Virtual Boy is done so Game Boy vwill be back regularly.
