I’m in the DFW area of TX. It’s me, my husband, 20 yr old daughter and 16 yr old son. I don’t grocery shopping weekly but we average 1200-1500 a month for groceries. I include household stuff in that budget.
Thank you for sharing!
Family of 3 later in the summer it will be 4, and we spend at least $300 a week and we are in the Midwest
Thank you for sharing! It makes me feel better seeing others spend around the same as me!
Mine crapped out but DTE (on the plan for appliances)fixed it.
that must have been such a relief!
Does anyone else feel like groceries have gone up again in the past 2 weeks? My grocery bill is averaging 250 a week..I usually like to stay at 170, dont know if it’s just me. And it’s just the 2 of us. In Nebraska
I feel like it ebbs and flows. I noticed that cheese and dairy in my grocery store this week seemed to have come down a little in price this week, but then meat prices seemed like they were up!
Ive been curious what my monthly avg is for groceries & finally did the math...my grocery budget is $600/mth ($750/5wk mth) my first quarter avg is $530, HBA budget is $100/mth avg is $28.25, Household budget is $100/mth avg is 49.75, pet is $65/mth (one month goes to auto ship for their food, the other month it goes to the sinking fund) so if say $30/mth for pet food.
TLDR- Budgeted Amt for Groceries including categories Jessi does in hers, $830/mth, spending avg $638
We eat out once a wk, budget $50/wk.
Location- Greenville,SC
Family Size- 3 humans (35F, 16M, 13M), 2 dogs (2M, 2M)
I'm so glad you did the math to see how it adds up! Thank you for sharing!
Isn’t the point of sinking funds/emergency funds to be able to handle emergencies like your washer going out? I don’t understand putting it on credit if you have the cash flow.
I think you all could make some amazing progress if you stopped the need for instant gratification.
I used my lowes credit card because it gave me 5% off the total purchase. Yes, I could take the money from the emergency fund and pay the card off right now, but I don't want to deplete that fund if I don't have to.
The way I see it, if I took the money out of the emergency fund, I would then pause everything and make my number one budgeting focus to replenish the emergency fund. It's exactly the same thing I am doing with the credit card.
I would have chosen to take the money out of my emergency fund to cover it if it were going to take more than a few weeks to pay back, in order to avoid interest. But in this case, it will be paid back quickly enough that we don't have to worry about that. I pretty much just saved myself a trip to the bank. 🤷♀️
