I saw The Room at a special screening here in Canberra! It was fucking amazing; they handed out instructions at the door telling you when to yell things at the screen, and when to throw plastic spoons (provided). Two guys kept running around the cinema in tuxedos throwing a football during the movie. Best night ever.
You almost smirked at the end when you promoted your patreon. Very well chosen words, I have to say. I laughed out loud. Amazing.
I'm anticipating this movie more than Star Wars: The Last Jedi. I'm not kidding
PowerGlove79 Me too!
Why not? It's basically 'Ed Wood' for a new generation...
Next year it’s going to mark no pun attended the15th anniversary of the room wonder how are they going to celebrate it
You're very well-spoken Matt. More so than other movie critics.
A part of me wished I hadn't read "The Disaster Artist" before I saw the movie. Not because the book's no good, actually the contrary: I agree with you, the book's INCREDIBLE. It's charming, it's well-written, it answers SO MANY QUESTIONS that anyone who's watched The Room has had for over a decades, and...the movie glosses over SO MUCH of it to make the audience sympathize with Tommy, who really might not deserve that sympathy.
That's the thing the book does: it doesn't tell you how you SHOULD feel about Tommy Wiseau and The Room, and it gives a much better idea of Greg Sestero's life, and I honestly wish he'd write more because he seems VERY good at it.
Also seeing him in "The Haunting of Bly Manor" made my wife literally tear up because of how happy she was that he FINALLY got to be in something 1) good and 2) unrelated to Wiseau/The Room.
Agreed. The movie feels very sanitized compared to the book and there were so many great incidents and stories [like the generator incident, The talented Mr Ripley, the restaurant scene which opens the book] which were just missing from the movie. I really couldn't stand Tommy by the end of the book, so to see him portrayed as 'a nice guy deep down' feel odd. The movie was fine but the book is far superior.
As always Mathew, great review and happy birthday.
This movie was so bizarre, but hilarious. I think we all wondered what the story behind “The Room” was, but never expected this movie to tell us the story
I love how it compared the reinacted scenes with the original scenes.
You tearing me apart Matthew!
Happy Birthday Matt!
No, you do not have to see The Room before seeing this movie. This movie is a work of its own that should tell its own story. I am hoping that this one comes to Winnipeg soon.
I'm gonna get the book and HOPE to be able to catch the movie over the holiday!
Nicely done good sir
Happy Birthday Mattyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
One of the best films of 2017.
Oh hai mark
Matthew, you do a show called Bad Movie Beatdown, surely you must have seen the room?
I have now - I watched it before doing the review.
seth rogen gives the best performance in this film behind the franco brothers, and i mean that with the utmost sincerity. his deadpan, confused monotone had me laughing out loud more than most of tommy or greg's lines. what i appreciated most about this film is that it manages to make tommy sympathetic without letting him off the hook for being a stubborn asshole. in that respect, this film actually has a lot in common with i, tonya, which manages to straddle the same line in regards to the complexity of its subject.
I think The Room got popular, because people found Tommy Wieseau's incompetent film making, writing, acting and English funny.
Genin99 modern day ed wood
To a point. But there's also a part where, strangely enough, many of the movie's fans do appreciate Tommy's EFFORT, even if the outcome was not ....shall we say, quite up to James Dean or Marlon Brando standard.
It's so much more than just "funny voice, bad movie," it's SO SPECIFICALLY BAD. No other bad movies are LIKE "The Room," and I have watched a LOOOOOOOOOT of bad movies for someone who doesn't review them professionally on UA-cam. Almost any bad movie, you can at least get an idea of the hows and whys of it, but "The Room" is a thick fog, and the further you go in, the less you know your way. It's why, I think, "The Disaster Artist" is such a tremendous book.
@@samanthanickson6478 I think James Nguyen of "Birdemic" is more a modern day Ed Wood. Tommy's more like Coleman Francis as Tommy spent more making The Room than Wood spent cumulatively on ALL his films (something people forget: the Room's budget was $6million).
It's currently £9.99 on youtube videos. How little should it get to before I waste an hour and a half watching it?
Your mic keeps clipping....is there a way you can fix it?...please? Y-Y
Franco did a film before this called Zeroville that wasn't released until 2019 which also focuses on film making [based on a novel of a characters fictitious journey through 70's hollywood]. Its...not very good to say the least!
Review The Room
The room became a cult following
Please do "Australia" on BMB. It seriously bad stereotypical horse shit. I'm Australian and it made me say I hate Australia.
Damn you Baz Luhrmann
I did noooot
Lee Jones oh hai, lee.
Haha your tearing me apart Samantha
james franco is also very pretentious for someone who has mediocre director/writer/photography skills.
Matthew, is Prince Charles your father? Seriously you could pass for Williams brother more convincingly than Harry does.
Harry is only a half blood prince though. (Thanks JK)
The Room is the greatest movie of all time. Anybody that disagrees is a huge chicken.
