    All 4 in your music stand are my urtext favorites. :) Henle, Baerenreiter, Wiener, and Edition Peters. :)

    I'd take Henle Verlag over anything

    For Beethoven sonatas there is a new Royal Schools edition that is extremely helpful. But the books do not lie open well on the music stand. 3 volumes.

      These Schirmer editions are much cheaper and you can purchase the three volumes for a lot less than $400! Dover or Schirmer should be good enough since there are not that many editorial markings on it and they also share the samr editor.
      Just be aware that there are very few fingerings in these.

    For me, I get urtext if I can for exams or for a piece/set that I really like/will study for a long time, however, if the piece is simply for theory or analyzing/practicing something that I don't care for as much but I have to

    Do you have any idea where I can get the Prokofiev piano sonata nr. 1 (preferably urtext)? I have looked quite a bit, but haven't found any sheet music from an editor that I "trust"? Thanks in advance :)

    • @CRZNDOMusic
      @CRZNDOMusic  3 роки тому +1

      Hi! I agree it is definitely hard to find trustworthy urtext editions for 'newer' composers such as Prokofiev. I personally have all of the Prokofiev Sonatas in the Boosey and Hawkes edition. I have found that it is a very good edition with accurate notations and big print. Here is the Amazon link to the first volume of the sonatas, however, I am not sure if you can buy them individually from them. Let me know if you have any questions! amzn.to/2VeT4p4

    I am just worried about whether they will stay open on the piano and not close back in. That is the most annoying thing ever! I don't want to spend $100 per book and then find it does not sit on my piano properly!

    • @CRZNDOMusic
      @CRZNDOMusic  3 роки тому +2

      That’s always the challenge! There are some books that are now made spiral bound. You can also take a book into a printing store and have it made spiral bound but that isn’t always possible.

    • @CRZNDOMusic
      @CRZNDOMusic  3 роки тому

      @Robert Ashton that’s a good idea too and I’ve done that before. I just like having all the similar pieces in one book too.

    • @charlesfernandez201
      @charlesfernandez201 3 роки тому +1

      Henle and Vienna / Wiener Urtext stays open most of the time.
      For Schirmer, Alfred, Dover and ABRSM, don't generally lay flat easily. Alfred masterworks do have some comb binded books such as the Bach Well Tempered.
      Applying a bit of pressure on the pages can eventually make the book lay flat so its not that big of a problem.

    • @CRZNDOMusic
      @CRZNDOMusic  3 роки тому

      @@charlesfernandez201 yes the better ones definitely do stay open better! I wish they would make more books with the comb binding but maybe sometime soon! But that’s true unless you get into some of the bigger books and have to play something in the front or back!

      @@CRZNDOMusic So I had a question, why do people not like the Schirmer Editions for the sonatas?

    • @CRZNDOMusic
      @CRZNDOMusic  3 роки тому

      @@anish7672 I have heard this question a lot! Schirmer is not a bad edition however for much of the standard repertoire their editors add a lot of extra suggestions, phrasing, tempi, and other notation that is not found in the urtext editions. Plus they’re printing is smaller which makes it harder to read and I also think the score is less durable. But that’s just my opinion!
