Fortunately, I always operated the equipment, but now I'm struggling to learn the simple maintenance online. I'm happy to report that I got the fuel filters changed on the 1025R. Another great video , one tip for all changing this too small filter , this filter will cause low power problems as it reduces fuel flow at around 50 hours or so , the filter is too small for this application , I installed a FRAM G 12. 5/16 hose line size filter which is much larger and has better flow and will last much longer ..
You videos are GREAT! Did the hydraulic last week . FYI: If you crimp the fuel line too close to the rear (back of tractor) you might just split the fuel line, like I did, with a full tank. The nipple that sticks out of the fuel tank is about 1 1/2 inches long, so when I crimped I got it right at the end of the nipple, which split the hose. . While I was at it I replaced the spring clamps with 1/2" ss gear clamps, as I did with those crazy ones on the hydraulic. Since I had to replace the hose I put a 360 in it, to give me more room to get that filter on. Zip tired it up there, hoping it never catches on anything. Nest I'll cover it with a piece of plastic. "wishing you had clamped a bit further away"...lol Wish I had clamped closer.
You and Christy made a great video, Thanks. Always good to see what you all are up to. I re-routed my fuel line to make it easier to re-place that filter. Haven't had any problems with it yet and I still do whatever I've done before. I also buy my filters off ebay where I can get 12 for the price of 2 or 3 at JD or any auto parts store. Take care. Tim also the make special clamps for clamping off fuel lines. I think they are a little better than the hemostats I used to use the as well you can get the fuel line clamps very cheap at harbor freight or several other places they are not very expensive. Good job doing it the way you did
Did the fuel filter exchange, thanks for the video. My 1025r only had about 2 inches from the right side (small end) of the filter to the frame of the tractor which made it difficult to get the clamp pliers on a section of the fuel line which did not have a plastic resistance in the line. Had to put the hose clamp between the pliers and the frame to find a compressible section of the line (still had difficulty compressing line). Next time, will loosen bolt near front of tractor to give me more hose flexibility (read space) to get filter on.
Did this last night along with the hydraulic fluid and lube.... also a great video! I just happen to have a few of those clamps in the boat for the hoses.... Do NOT try to take the inlet hose off without proper clamping haha. It will flow out very fast and make a huge mess. So I've heard anyways ;)My tractor was starting to cough and actually died on me. I didn't realize there was an in-line fuel filter (I've changed the main filter several times)...I'm at 280 hours. The in-line filter was black, and after the change out it starts up great again and runs normal. whew!
O-K Tim, I just have to ask.... why are you collecting all those empty pallets and storing them in your garage?? Inside space is a premium to me. Thanks!

Apparently it was 'cool'...or whatever they might say now to mean the same thing! Anyway, it became 'un-cool' and she wanted to get rid of them. I think a dozen or more. I decided to take all of them off her hands (to be kind). I only needed 3-4. Since then, I've found that I break them occasionally due to harsh treatment. In fact, I have 3 on the burn pile right now. So, in time, I will be down to the proper number. I use these pallets for lots of temporary needs. For instance, did you see them in use to hold sod in the 'Bluebird sod cutter' videos? Nice to have some around. However, for me, a dozen is too many. Make sense??
Tim: Any idea why John Deere chose to put this filter in the 1025r? If it is important why is it so small? I think that it's size alone make it a problem waiting to happen.
I put the spring clams where they belong, in the trash can. I bought real clamps; the manual says the filter need to be changed regularly. JD is going to gey nailed one day on the poor location of the filter and what we have to do to change it.
+Boatdesigner interesting idea. Levi said he had moved his. More important than moving it would be to add a different mounting mechanism, complete with shuttle-cocks, etc. I wouldn't mind the location if you could close a valve and. Unscrew the filter.
Can you install a fuel shut off valve on the hose between the tank and filter? Maybe a longer length hose while you're at it. Then you only have turn off the fuel to change that filter too.
You should block those front and rear wheels before getting under that tractor. You can cut up a 2x4 and screw that across those blocks you have to keep the tires from rolling off your blocks.

To the right of where you clamped the hemostat Tim, is a hose guide....if you take that off it makes this job a lot easier....I'm impressed you did it with out removing it.
Yes, green is on-road (road use tax has been paid). pink/red is off-road (no road use tax paid) here in the US.Don't get caught with pink fuel in your truck!I guy the green stuff, paying taxes which I would not be required to pay, solely because it is easier for me to buy. John deere charges alot for these machines, why couldn't they put a shut off valve before the filter and maybe a little longer hose this job was a royal pain in the but ,John deere engineers are not thinking right. Just like that grease zerk that's hard to get to on the driveline .
I used two surgical clamps (Amazon) they worked fine. The one hose is very short and the clamp just makes it. The nipple on the filter just about touches the nipple on the other end of the hose. You may have to slide it off slightly and then clamp it. I think the next time I may remove the thinner filter nipple (cut it off) as it only uses the large one anyway( the nipple has two sizes for different applications on each end). Water builds up over time in the fuel tank. If you notice the engine stumbling or stalling, especially on a hill, then it's time to drain the tank, and filter it. I now use a Mr. Funnel AF15CB Fuel Filter when fueling.
Well, you gave a great instructive video but my clamps didn't hold and I have diesel fuel all over me and all over the ground LOL my wife says stay out of the house till I get rid of the diesel fuel smell. Why on earth do they not put a shut off valve on at least the gas tank side?
The location of that filter is the worst design issue I've seen on the 1025R. I use a Mr. Funnel when fueling and planning to eliminate the filter the next time it's scheduled for a change. The funnel is finer than the filter and it seperates out any water in it.
I agree not a good design. No reason to eliminate the filter if you are filtering your fuel before the filter. The reason to change out the filter; they get clogged with dirt.
Tim, Sometimes I will tie a rag around my arm to keep the fuel from running down it as I change the filter. Works pretty well. Thanks for the great videos. Very informative and entertaining. Even my kids like watching the "Green Tractor" on you tube.
I think some folks don't know about that little hidden fuel filter. Think your video is the only one I've seen that even mentioned it. Kubota BX uses 2 filters that are the same part number, 1 about where your filter is underneath and 1 near the injector pump on the engine. The filter that catches the most and gives the most trouble is the hidden one underneath. They really need that filter before the pump. Have a Blessed Day !
I change the air filters, engine oil, oil filter, both fuel filters, the front axle oil, the hydraulic oil, and the hydraulic filter every year on my JD 1023e. A bit overkill but I just get picky about my tractor. Great video showing the replacement of this fuel filter. I actually do the same thing with the clamps on this fuel line. I'm a state emt and have a decent supply of those in my tool box.
Stupid question... I just bought a 1025r and I cannot figure how to engage/disengage the mfwd... I do not have a lever on the right side of seat like the 1026r had. Any idea? Is it full time non selectable?
After changing these the past 6 years, I finally noticed that this is a one size filter that fits two different inside diameter hoses. Note a hose bard about the center of the plastic connector on either end. The 1-series hose fits the larger portion, so just snip off and discard the smaller ends of the filter. They are not needed, and you will have lots more room to maneuver the filter to install it,
I got ahold of some bad fuel apparently so I replaced the fuel and filters but I will admit I considered doing away with that small filter. But since under warranty I left it be
I a ways off for my 50 hr maintenance but would still like to have a reference video. I use off road diesel in my 2025r. Same fuel just not taxed. I am sure Indiana has different tax laws than Georgia and Alabama where I operate.

I don't want to haul my fuel tank very far...and I haven't yet used 100 gallons (in 2 years), so no big deal really. The list of parts will work. I had a 1023e that I traded I for the 2025r. I buy my diesel in the 5 gallon increments like you said in your transfer drum video. The filler on the new tractor is on the hood and difficult for the old guy to lift that weight. Where did you find the drum you used?

Well, I don't think the filter(s) were unreasonably dirty. I chose to replace because it had been two years. I hadn't noticed any symptoms leading me to believe that my filters were plugged.I'll get the "filter on the fuel storage tank" project at some point. Just haven't had time (or funds) yet.

Yep, the inline filter gets the 'brunt' of the dirt. So it is the one that needs to be replaced the most often.

200 hours. …and I recommend the first 50 hours. The oil gets hot in these little tractors, so it needs to be changed at 200 hours anyway.
Great video, It's a shame John Deere couldn't relocate that gas filter to make it easy to replace like a X500.

I replaced my in line fuel filter with the same type and model of the other fuel filter making is a lot better to change.

Steven Drake drum came from the family farm. Originally filled with 15w40...they rinsed it out with diesel repeatedly before donating it :-)
