Just got my DBA3 (switching over from a shark ION P50 that died) and with a 30 second pass over my living room carpet, filled the entire bin. I was shocked - we vacuum about 2 times a week and have two cats, but didn't think there was this much DIRT in our carpets. I will say it's 1. super heavy 2. awkward to maneuver 3. tough in small spaces but overall 4. scary powerful.

The animal 3 definitely is a better vacuum than the animal 2. The power on this thing is insane plus it is much better on hard floors. What is the CFM at the nozzle for this machine?

Thank you for the video. Strait to the point, I love that. My boss gave me her old dyson ball animal that was given to her by a housekeeping client many years ago. I replaced some parts on it, and had it going alright for a while, but it recently just totally stopped all suction. I just don't have any more time or energy to give to it. I'm sure someone else can invest all that to get it going good again, but I'm just done with it. Considering it's most likely atleast 15 years old, I don't feel bad about it. I was also given the Shark navigator professional liftaway by a housekeeping client when she bought a new Kirby. It's a fantastic vacuum, especially for dirt, however it didn't take too long to realize that the filtration system is just not up to par. I will keep using it for some things, like the staircase, but I'm a little tired of having to take it apart so often to clean all the things, and super excited to receive the Dyson 3 (Ordered the complete with all the accessories) when it was $100 off, still is at the moment. I agonized over the purchase for a couple months, but I'm certain that it will be a worthwhile expense, especially now that we have a Husky in the home. Grooming tool for the win!

My only real issues with mine is is with the hose. The suction is so strong that it collapses the hose easily and yanks the vacuum over its the floor, and it shortens the usable length of the hose.

Yeah, I'm curious about those too. I looked up the most expensive vacuum in the world and it's one of those. I wonder how it's different from a wet/dry vac. I guess with those it's one of two modes, whereas with the water vacs it's meant to be only dry.
With those vacs, if I had to guess, I think they're not more popular because they're less effective than someone might think at first. The reason why HEPA filters are so popular isn't because they're extremely sophisticated--they're basically like paper holiday decorations they put up in school, made to very exacting standards. They're light, pretty effective, and there's a high profit margin on them.
If you've ever seen a smoking pipe that uses water, you can see that the main benefit of the water is cooling down the smoke--not filtering it. Meanwhile, water is very heavy. Just my 2 cents. Thanks.

I have had my Animal III for a week and am in love with it. It’s not often that I find a vacuum that I love how it feels to use. My Miele C3 is one of those rare vacs, and now my Animal III is to! I can’t believe how much crap it pulled out of my carpet, and I vacuum daily. I have an Animal II that this one replaced. I did not expect it to be worlds better, but it is. It feels better built, cleans better, doesn’t rattle or feel flimsy, it rolls better, I love the adjustable vent, I really can’t say enough about it. I’ve had mine a few weeks and I agree with you on the power. It’s super strong and I personally think it it better than the animal 2 in almost every way. I posted a video comparing it to the animal 2 and v11 outsize. The only complaint I have with this vacuum is pushing it. It’s hard. It sucks down to the carpet and it hard to move which ironically is not an issue I have ever had or experienced on the animal 2. The anti tangle works well but not perfect for me. I have fairly long hair and it does enable unlike any of my sharks. It’s hard floor performance for me has been good. But overall in my house, I still use my vertex the most. The vertex is better at hard floors, better at hair tangle, and still works amazingly well on carpets. But both machines are premium vacuums that are both amazing. Another great review from you! Keep up the amazing work and hope to see more upright reviews soon

Oh wow. That's surprising. I thought the Animal 2 was THE carpet grabber. Any idea why the Ball 3 is worse? I know it has more suction (I think) but aside from that? I guess the head is smaller.
Have you tried it with the brush gates open?
I'll look into the Shark Vertex. I just want something that is kinda fun and easy to use often. I don't need to deep clean carpets (I'm just trying to help my family keep up the house more often). If you have any other recommendations, please let me know.

@@bluegrass571 the animal 3 increased power and made the cleaner head have a better seal (as shown in the video) so it grabs down to the carpet. My animal 2 never had that issue. But even with the suction gates all the way open, I struggle and everyone I’ve talked to about it has agreed with me. But for now hat you’re describing, the vertex would be perfect. Amazing filtration, cleaning, and versatility. There’s nothing a vertex can’t do and it does everything flawlessly. It’s hard for me to recommend anything else because the vertex is just so good. I just purchased the Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra - I am excited for this as I previously had a Bissell Cleanview.. For being as cheap as the Bissell was ..I think I purchased it for around $88.00 on sale in 2021 it was okay ..I really need a good vacuum though as I have 4 cats and a dog. this past year after owning the bissell for 2 years it seemed to have lost A LOT of its suction power and would keep doing what a shop vac does when its full of water ..lots of noise but no more suction lol.. I was over it.. the little attachment it came with stopped working after about 6 months of use and that was realllllly hard to lose as I could no longer clean my kitty tower or my couch etc.. I did purchase a wyze cordless stick vacuum deal but I plan on replacing it with a tineco or a Dyson VERY soon ... the battery life, charge time and overall cheapness of that Wyze has made me absolutely hate it.. the lack of attachments/the kind of attachments also makes me dislike it a litttttle more. I also have a Bissell Crosswise and for the moment I am okay with it .. I prefer to have a corded mop/vacuum for my use case as sometimes I wanted to do multiple passes to ensure a thorough clean in my house lol

The only downside is that others have said, it’s pretty heavy. Elderly people or people with back issues are going to have problems picking it up. Also as others have said suction is a little too strong and you can’t adjust it.

I bought the 3+ at Costco on sale this week for $279, which I think includes a few bonus attachments. While I am very impressed at the power, the build quality of its components seems really cheap (especially the bin and the cord organizer), and removing the hose to vacuum tighter/higher spaces seems like a pain -- you have to remove part of the handle, whereas on my old Shark you could just pull the hose out and get going.
Not really sure if I'll keep it long-term, as it might be overkill for our smaller partially-carpeted house. Since it was a Costco purchase, however, the return policy will essentially let me try it as long as I want.

I see they didn’t fix the hose/balance problem. When pulling the hose, it’s too retractable/stiff, which makes it infuriating to use. Also when using the hose, the main unit itself will unclick and/or fall over every single time. The DBA3E was great at first but the suction was sooo strong that I found it extremely hard to push even WITH the adjustable suction on the vacuum head. This vacuum is honestly such a pain! It doesn't go completely down (horizontally) and does not have powered lift-away like a shark does so basically you need to exclusively use the hose to get under furniture. The build of the vacuum felt overall "cheap" with its rickety plastic handles and overall performance felt incredibly underwhelming for what I was expecting out of a Dyson. It was a true shame too as I have ALWAYS wanted a Dyson and had such high-hopes for this vacuum that it broke me to return it literally after 1 day of cleaning the house.

Good point. Have you tried the Chomchom pet hair remover? I'm not endorsing it, but it's like a nylon lined hollow cylinder with a door that opens and shuts when you move it back and forth. I don't know how it works, but static electricity supposedly pulls the cat hair inside the chamber and you pick it out like a lint filter.
To be honest, it's a pain in the ass as it's a manual tool that looks like a lint roller. But maybe Dyson could mechanize it.
Also, have you seen the Dyson grooming tool? It comes with the Dyson Animal Ball 3 Complete (I think?). Check it out, you can brush your cats with it and then it just sucks the hair right off after so you don't have to scare the cats.
I feel you though, the hair gets everywhere anyway hehe.

They did... I think it was marketing hype when the V11 was released? I hope they reconsider. Battery technology (unfortunately) is the Achilles' heel of a lot of advancing technology. They're coming out with much more durable batteries (more charge cycles before they die), but they're not getting much smaller, lighter, or higher capacity.
Incidentally, their upright ecosystem is much more fleshed out in the UK. The latest uprights there support a different attachment style that is similar to their cordless vacuums, they have a metal "stick", and it has a "reach under" tool built in.
Sorry if I'm bombarding you with information. I found out about this like last week.
They also have a compact line that I think only has made it over to the US a little.
If you want to know more, check out the UA-cam channel "ibaisaic" (hopefully this is OK with our gracious host, you can't really get them here anyway). Or you can go to the Dyson web site and browse around the regions without being on a VPN. I hope this helped.

How do the new Dysons fare over time? I replaced my DC17 Animal with a Shark Apex Duo Zero-M. Dyson was a dream at first but over time, all of the parts became crusty and gross. It stopped sealing the right way and cleaning the filter never removed the pet odor that seemed to be stuck in it. The vortex chambers would get all gummed up because of the humidity here and it was literally a nightmare to clean. I finally got rid of it when it became just as much of a nightmare to empty each time I tried to use it.

    • @bluegrass571

Thanks for your experience. I need to look more into Shark. The Shark Apex Duo Zero-M is like the latest and greatest from them right?
Is it a bagless vacuum? How does it avoid getting crusty and gross?
Also, you probably already know this, but there's a way to open up the filters and dump out the dirt inside with the cordless vacuums. It's gross that they don't tell people how to do that. I would try searching for Dyson V7 filter full cleaning if this doesn't sound familiar. Thanks.

    • @Omnis2
      @Omnis2 2 роки тому +1

@@bluegrass571 Yes, I know how to clean the old Dyson. Took apart the whole cyclone chamber. But it wasn't just dirt in there, it was thick buildup which I assume arose from a combination of humidity and a small male dog that lived for 19 years. (We replaced the carpets when he died.)
When I realized it would have been cheaper for me to buy a whole new cyclone unit than to spend all that time cleaning it, I decided that I was getting rid of it.
We actually wound up moving, and the thought of bringing vacuums between houses also grinds my gears. Thus, I bought the Shark Apex unit on the recommendation of this Vacuum Wars channel. It was the model that won their shootout test a couple years ago when it was introduced with the DuoClean roller. I think it was then succeeded by the Vertex which won the 2021 test.
I've had it for something like 4 or 5 years now. It has been so much better than my Dyson experience. The dust bin is emptiable without even having to touch it. You just hold it by its handle, put it in the garbage can and press it against the side, tripping the latch and preventing dust from dumping everywhere on your floor. Dragging it out against the edge of the trashcan will close the lid which audibly snaps shut.
Everything has been easier to clean and maintain on the Apex. With the Dyson, I felt like the recommended maintenance didn't make any difference, whereas the Shark hasn't yet shown any signs of being a problem. I don't have a pet anymore, but the shedding hair on my head is making up the difference.
The ease of use difference is also huge. Transitioning between floor types is also a simple switch at the handle. All automatic. The canister docks onto the wand and also comes off, so you can use it like an upright or like a canister vac. This is so superior to Dyson's horrible pole-in-the-tube. I don't know if Dyson made any changes, but I used to have to constantly yank upwards on the sprung flextube just to use the wand and attachments on anything below shoulder-height.
The only thing I wish the Shark had was an automatic cord reel. I've also noticed that the attachments tend to get easily knocked out of their holder on the back of the unit, especially when you're having to wrap the cord.
I believe Shark just announced their new flagship, the Shark Stratos, a few days ago. I don't know if the new one has any better kind of retention system, or these other features.
Also, I have a Shark dust-buster handheld thing that is absolutely useless. Definitely would skip those. Their regular vacuums are pretty legit though.
I'm not a pro or anything, just happy to give report on my experience. Hope it helps.

@@Omnis2 Thanks. You obviously have put a lot of effort into maintaining your machine and I'm sorry it didn't work out. I don't like throwing out appliances--especially expensive ones.
Do you still use Dysons for anything? I think I'll use them for their handheld ecosystem, but their uprights seem to be insecure and feel the need to have the most suction, even if it means they're less usable than a Bissell.
Incidentally, I first got a Dyson because I didn't like the way I had to pull the hose off the Bissell to use the crevice tool. I do hear that in the UK the uprights use a "button" attachment system now though.
Btw, do you have an air purifier to recommend? I'm lookingn at buying a Dyson one, wondering if you have any thoughts on them. Thanks.

    • @bluegrass571
      @bluegrass571 2 роки тому

@John Machotka I appreciate your input. Yeah, one thing I do wonder about is why Dyson hasn't adapted the "point-and-shoot" bin emptying style from the wireless models. Having to get some tool up in the bin is no fun--especially as the bins get narrower on the uprights.
I think the reason why they haven't done it is the point-and-shoot latches can be finnicky, and people are used to dust busters contents getting spilled once in a while, but on an upright that would make someone really upset. The thing is, the newer Dyson upright bins aren't that big. It has to do with expectations from the form factor.

You don't seem to be aware but this vacuum actually was released years back in Europe. Dyson stated back in 2018 that they were no longer going to make any new corded vacuums and go completely cordless. It seems like Dyson has been trying to get rid of leftover stock by introducing products that were previously European only in NA. One example of this is how you can find 4 different models of the Big Ball canister vacuums here in Canada and one in the USA but in the UK their canister vacuums have already been discontinued. From searching I found that the Ball Animal 3 was originally released back around~2017. The current top of the line Dyson Ball Animal Complete on their UK site has a newer design then the Ball Animal 3 (it has a telescopic wand similar to the Big Ball canister vacuums and appears to have a larger dust bin) so you can probably expect at least one more refresh of the design in NA.

Yeah, agreed. I dunno it makes sense that countries in the UK and commonwealth nations get them first, but what is the US, chopped liver?
To be honest I think they should just introduce variable suction. The idea that their vacuums just clamp down to the carpet and don't move is unacceptable. I don't want a vacuum to suck the fibers out of the carpet, I want one that is fun and easy to use.

Is it definitely easier to push than the Multifloor 2 (with gates open or not)? I wish you could change the level of suction as well.
I have some Dyson tools for my cordless, but I really want a fun, maneuverable upright. Super-strong suction isn't essential, more ease of maintenance and fun to use regularly.
I like the look of the Lupe, but it is too early a product and quite expensive.
I like Dyson's build, the tool ecosystem, and the emphasis on innovation. I love the long cord. If there are any other uprights that you think would be fun to use and beat the Dyson hands down, please let me know.
