For anyone who does this make sure your channels are set right otherwise your wifi networks will try to talk over each other. 2.4 channels if you are using two extenders should be 1, 6, and 11. 5 ghz had weird channels so I would suggest looking it up.
This is a good use for an old router. the lynksys router has served me for many years...an old 802.a,b however when the 802n came about I went to the hughes net and they supplied the modem/router. Great video Thanks for keeping the old tech guys up to speed.
I've always turned the dhcp off on the second router and plug the ethernet into port two instead of the wan port on the second router and use the same SSID and pass as the main router just different channels so devices will connect automatically and This works with any router no specific router needed
This is what I have done as well. My house is old and has thick walls. I have added a total of 4 other wireless routers for different parts of the house.
One thing to think about is making sure the radio channels are isolated from each other and not in possible conflict with neghbors wifi radio channels. For me, the main wifi is on CH6, mesh adapter is on CH1 and the wifi repeater on CH9.
ThioJoe, after viewing your video I went to the basement and found my LinkSys WRT160n. I spent most of Sunday trying to make this router an access point for the 2nd level of my home. I have the router plugged into an electrical outlet however I don't know where to connect the internet to make this an access point. If you can assist me I would appreciate this. Thank you
Question: We know a 'wifi repeater (#1)' can extend the range of wifi from the "main" router. Can we add another wifi repeater #2 to connect to repeater #1's signal to further increase the range? I hope this makes sense. :D Thank you for the video.
If done correctly, yes. The only thing increased would be range, the more that you daisy chain the more latency will be introduced. You’re also still sharing WAN bandwidth across your LAN.
i cant help but smirk while listening to this guy because of the older vids that he did esp since this one couldve well been one of those lol (i know it isnt)
Something to note, devices connected to Google Home will act goofy. Your devices will only show as connected to the base router, however if your phone moves and connects to the access point router, Google home will show none of your devices as being connected because the devices are connected to the base router and you no longer are despite still having a wifi connection to the same SSID
Not sure what a booster is but as the video states, a repeater is a router being used as a extender but unlike an extender it is wireless. And extender is connected using an ethernet cable.
@@Ishaan2122 Figured it out since then, i think. Verizon connected a device called a "booster" to extend the wireless range in our house. Great video. Thanks for taking the time to make it. Can you please show us how to set up the wired option. An idiots guide to this would be great. Thanks in advance
I guess the one thing that is critical to know is how to get to that page you mention first. The lynksys settings page. I am not using a Lynksys router I am using a tp-link but I would imagine it would be similar. If I knew that much I would not need your video.
Purchase a few ASUS RT-AX88U routers and after you set-up the primary unit, the others can be used as MESH Nodes via the ASUS Router App. After they’re set-up, update them via the app to the current firmware and you’re good to go.
For me I use AP mode with same SSID and password devices connect seamlessly and it helps to eliminate filling up the 2.4 network if you use a lot of 2.4 devices such as plugs and lights
Just hook up an Ethernet cable (RJ45) from one of the multiple LAN ports of main router to the 2nd router's LAN ports (NOT the one that is different color than others or spaced apart) and turn off DHCP in that 2nd router. Leave other settings as it is or reset it and turn DHCP off. Thats how I use my Dlink (as master) and TP-Link (slave)routers on two different floors.
Does a repeater need a hard wire? I live in a big house so once I get in the basement my signal gets weak or lost. I don’t want to run a hardwire to the basement.
Ok so I have a question 🙋♂️ I just bought a brand new modem/router combo in my living room and it has a coax splitter that runs into my den where I game. In the den I have the coax hooked up to a hitron extender which is then hooked up to 5 port bridge which has my Xbox and my 2 computers I use for gaming. I noticed the wired connection in the living room is way faster than in the den. Can I use my old router/modem to replace to extender in my den ?
I was wondering if I can extend another access point thru the access point I just connected to the main router? I am trying to give access to every part of our 4 storey house. Would that work? Or should I connect every access point to the main router?
Hi there. Great Vid. You say you can use any old router. How old is old? If you use an old 802.11.b will it slow the signal? If so, by how much. Cheers
How to setup the extended router without reauthentication ? I want a seamless handover between main router wifi coverage and the extended router wifi coverage.
I live in a crappy motel room with free wifi but the signal is so weak in my room I barely get anything. Is there a way to boost the signal from the motel's wifi?
I run both of mine as standalone networks with different IP addresses due to the second router being a LTE router that just happens to work with ethernet input in one of the ports.
so I set up the second router to repeat but now I can no longer login to that router and even resetting the router doesn't work at all. and its not boosting the signal either
When I get to the website my spare router(which isconnected to my laptop via ethernet cable) is already connected to the internet unlike the video am I doing something wrong?
As soon as I click apply to my router settings, my computer doesn’t connect to my extender. The WiFi signals are there, but it doesn’t seem to connect to it.

I want to try using my old router but if that doesn't work I'll consider running more ethernet or go to moca. Thanks for any help.
Guys, this is not a joke video. In the wireless repeater mode, the router just detects the internet signal and amplifies it so that other devices can get a proper signal. In the wired extender mode, the router gets the internet signal on the WAN port and broadcasts it just like a normal router, but in a different room where the signal from the main router isn't powerful enough.
thank you man so much,,, i did not know wireless mode exist in my router i bought it for just 1000rs 15 dollars ,, now i needed a repeater and was going to buy one, you saved me money man .
i dont recommend using it as a repeater bcs it sucks, just buy a 20 metre ethernet cable (like i did) and use it as a new APN like in this video. this solves all dead zone in my house
