Hey, nice to see the Besnard Lakes!! I am still deciding if I should do this tag, but with every video I watch, I am getting closer. We will see, I guess. There are lots of new things to me in this video. April Wine's cover of 21st C Schiz man is pretty darn good. Fabulous tag response, Peter! I think you might like Godspeed. Start with F♯ A♯ ∞ 🙂

@@EmbryonicRobot Gotcha on God Speed. I’ll try starting from there. Thanks! I don’t think my video was as chock full o’ prog as it could have been, but I thought it was a good chance to be a little interpretive, perhaps especially with something like The Besnard Lakes. I think you’d have a unique response, Brian.

Peter, this was great to play in the car and listen to on the way to the work office today. I went to the video and transcript on lunch, and I was honing in on Yuka and Chronoship. That sounds pretty interesting to me. Looked them up, took a screenshot, and moved the pic into the 'future purchases' photo album on the phone! Easy reference when music shopping. 😎🎶

@@onmyturntable7036 Oh, that’s great you liked Yuka and Chronoship! I’ve been thinking I need to revisit and see what is out there these days. I’m glad you could listen in your car. I’ve been doing a lot of listening lately as there is not enough watching time.

@@musicisajourney I agree, Peter. I do that with a number of them, and then circle back for comments, etc. Works out pretty well.

I am so honored to be one of the turds! Man.. even a genre like prog where I feel i excel there is SO MUCH out there I don't know. I need to get into that band that you talk about second that Ben and Brian mentioned.. what are they called? Great pick with Deep Purple. Even if not formally "prog", I think they were the first band of pure virtuoso musicianship that became a template later on. What album did Ben mention to get into for King Gizz? I need to do the same. Thanks for a great response, Peter. I took lots of notes!!

@@beerandvinyl Hi, Alex! I don’t think I went nearly as prog as your 2024 purchase video, but it was fun doing this without reaching for many of the usual suspects.
The band I picked up is The Besnard Lakes. Shoegaze, post rock, new prog.
Ben recommended an album whose title is something like Ice, Planets, Fire, Lungs, Lava, and Death. Maybe I got four words out of six correct.
I think Deep Purple were proggiest in their very early days and then reserved most of their skills for somewhat unusually composed songs like Perfect Strangers, Clearly Quite Absurd, and Nothing at All (Act 1).

It's entirely up to you. I'm not touching the soul tag.

Interesting. I just listened to Besnard Lake and I liked it but (I guess I'm too old school) I didn't hear the prog in there. I liked the first two Iron Maiden albums. I can certainly see the prog elements in there. I'm also a fan of prog from Quebec. Night Noise was quite an enjoyable band. I had several of their CDs.

@@MyVinylAttic I think with The Besnard Lakes, the progressive element is not traditional. I’m happy to call them shoegaze/post rock and leave it at that. I have no idea what identifies new prog. So maybe it’s better as progressive music but not prog as we know it. But what do I know? 1970s Quebec prog produced some very good albums! And I’m pleasantly surprised to know you are well familiar with Night Noise.

@@musicisajourney I have A Different Shore, Shadow of Time and the White Horse Sessions. I think I read some glowing review in the 90s and gave them a try.

@ Shadow of Time is the one I have. A girlfriend had a two-CD comp of Wyndham Hill artists. Night Noise was my favourite of them. Shadow of Time doesn’t include that track unfortunately.

Hey Peter! You still write on Prog Archives? Good point about Purple. I have a KG&LW album, but can't get into it, can't even remember the name so that tells you what I think of it. Cheers!

@@AisForAliceBisForBob I haven’t written a review for quite a few years. I was even a collaborator on Metal Music Archives in charge of proto-metal. That was in pre-COVID times. Family life and UA-cam life keep me too occupied to write reviews now.
